That interview with Mackenzie Phillips. I remember Oprah saying a couple of years ago she wasn't going to do any more of the shock stuff, that she was going to rise above all that. Well I guess she threw that out the window. I used to like her, she was so down to earth. Now she thinks she is the Queen of America. JMHO

i'll never forget the day she went to walmart and was freaking out over walmart carrying bras for 10.00. she grew up dirt poor, and i'm sure she knows more than her fair share about 10.00 bras. :headache:

I had a friend to be on her show a few years ago and she was treated rude. She now hates the show and will not watch. She's not the nice lady she wants everyone to see. Very self-centered and just rude.

It's funny because I overheard my teenage DD and her friends talking about how Oprah just thinks she is above all the rest of us. So I guess alot of other people have noticed a change in her personality. Afterall, she is "Oprah".

I couldn't believe how she had to do an episode a few months ago proclaiming she had been keeping her own secret from the world. Her big secreet turned out to be that she is fat once again. :sad2:

Ummm, Oprah, the only who was in denial about it was YOU and your "Emperor has no clothes" entourage who also pretended not to notice. :sad2: How sad to surround your self with yes men who only agree with whatever you want and will say what you want to hear. :sad2:

I don't normally watch Oprah. I never have been a big fan, but I actually liked the show today. I found it very interesting and moving.

What was the shocking news??

I gave up on Oprah when I found out she was launching a Jenny McCarthy Talk Show. That's what the world needs, more people with uninformed medical opinions spouting off about things they know nothing about. In fact, lets give them their own show! :headache: After Dr. Phil, I thought her taste in people to promote couldn't get any worse...

I know Mackenzie Phillips wrote a book and is talking about all of it on Oprah but I sort of felt sorry for her the way Oprah handled it. I mean she didn't ease her into the story at all. She just opened with the absolute worst of it. Mackenzie even commented about it saying something like "well I wasn't expecting to start like this but o.k." I mean geesh Oprah, have some sensitivity for crying out loud. That used to be her strong suit.

I really think it's because of the people she's been surrounding herself with. Part of her being so down to earth in the past was because she kept people around her who would keep her real and who would, like Dr. Phil, "tell it like it is." They used to tell her, "Whoa, Oprah, some sensitivity, okay?"

Now, she just keeps around people like Kelly Ripa's hubby who has no expertise in anything, but will agree with what she wants to hear and tell her how fabulous she is. :sad2:

Yes, someone please do tell.

Mackenzie had a ten year sexual relationship with her dad. It started when she was very young. Her dad was the one that introduced her to heroin. During her drug induced blackout periods, her dad took advantage of her. They were both so strung out that it became a continuing thing. Finally, she got pregnant. She wasn't sure if the baby belonged to her boyfriend or her dad. Her dad paid for the abortion and she would no longer sleep with him. Very sad situation.

Thanks for the info.
How absolutely horrible. I'm almost in disbelief. What a sad, sick situation.

No wonder she had so many issues growing up! Her dad should be prosecuted!!!

Add me to this list. I haven't been able to stomach much of Oprah since that little comment she made on a radio show a few years ago. Anybody remember this? She mentioned the fact that now that she's...well...Oprah, she has "all these white people" working for her, and only one black person on the staff. Completely unnecessary statement.

OMG! Nasty. I didn't know who this person was, thanks for the info. I haven't watch Oprah in a long time, I rather watch Ellen, it comes at the same time, her show is fun and she is really cool.

What people are missing is that she could have ended it years earlier than when SHE ended it.

There's a whole other thread on this if you want to get into this. :surfweb: :hyper2: But, watch out, as usual on the DIS, the fur goes flying. :duck:

The sexual relationship was between two consenting adults. As much as incest is a taboo, given the ages of both father and daughter, there was no criminal law being violated, and if there would have been, both would have been equally guilty. There are no applicable laws in our society that treat a 19 year old different from a 43 year old, regardless of their familial relationship.

Without stealing the thunder from that other thread, in a nutshell, it was a terrible situation, two people very messed up. Enough said (literally).

Now she thinks she is the Queen of America. JMHO

Which is the very reason I cannot stomach her. I once saw a special where she invited a bunch of female celebrities to a party. They all sat around and swapped stories, cried, and praised Oprah. Then she brings out gifts for everyone...these were lavish, expensive gifts that these big-name celebrities certainly didn't need. But what struck me the most about this special of hers was how much she patted herself on the back -- I thought she was going to break her arm from patting herself so hard. She completely turned me off and I have been seeing her through different eyes ever since.

I must be the cynical one on the boards. I think most celebrities aren't worth the time they are given.
I knew immediately when Mackenzie said she had a bomb shell it was going to be something stupid.
It's always some thing of that nature.

Dad sexually abuse them.
Sibling sexually abuse them.
BF/Husband abuse them.
co star sexually abuse them

Sorry, I'm sick of the "celebrity of the week" pooor me, my drug abuse/alcohol abuse was the cause of some "abuse" in my past. Gimme a break! I could have written that script. And excuse me why is there always the need to tell the rest of the world about it?

You know when I'll be impressed, the day Oprah has a celebrity on TV that says, "My mom & dad were absolutely fabulous, I had a normal Happy childhood and now I have a head full of wonderful memories".
