Hi there.

Long time lurker here and I need the help of all your years of Disney knowledge.

I have a report to do for Friday on the Animal Kingdom. I am doing a Civil Engineering course, so the report is looking at the park from that perspective. I have been able to find good bits of information on how Expedition Everest was created, but what I have not been able to find is any information on the land that it was built upon.

I know that it was obviously Disney owned, but was there any problems developing the land? Wildlife that needed relocated? Swampland that needed dealt with? That sort of thing

Any information/resources that you know of or could link me to would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know if this would be helpful, but for all of the parks there are some imagineering field guides. Maybe the one for animal kingdom would help you?

Ugh, sorry link didn't work...I was trying to post the link for it on barnes and noble's site. If you just go to their site and enter "The Imagineering Field Guide to Disney's Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World" by Alex Wright, Imagineers you'll find it.

Here's the description:
Synopsis

The third in a series of pocket-sized paperbacks answers the question, "What would it be like to walk through Disney's Animal Kingdom Park with an Imagineer by your side?" The Imagineering Field Guide to Disney's Animal Kingdom provides that experience: pointing out details and telling stories, back stories, and Imagineering insights never before heard, condensed into a portable, easily-referenced park guide. You'll never spend time at Walt Disney World the same way again.

Each spread contains fascinating textual information and related images (drawings, photos, graphics) such as:

Set-up, backgrounds, and origins of each park/land/mini-land

Concept art to compare to the finished show

Timeline information (opening dates, previous shows in the same venue,

alterations and updates)

- Photography of the details and big pictures being discussed

Special props, design sources, artistic inspirations, nomenclature gags

I'll need to try and seek that out tomorrow. Hopefully I can find it, report is due on Friday!

I find it so odd that I've not been able to find anything about the Animal Kingdom 'pre opening' online considering how much of the web Disney occupies. Maybe I've been using the wrong keywords in Google.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention though.

The tree of life is really a oil barge that they had shipped to disney and yes they had to cover swamp land in order to create AK...
