I was so excited to see there would be evenings in AK but we are now planning a trip for Feb. and the hours have the park closing at 5-6pm nightly. Does anyone know why they aren't having evenings? I thought there would be the show on discovery river ect.

From what I've gathered, the evening hours at AK haven't been well attended and ROL still isn't up and running so it may be possible they won't be having evening hours during the winter months. At least not until ROL is working. Which is a bummer because I was looking forward to the evening hours in December.

We went last January, granted before the evening activities, but found that all park hours were adjusted with as little as a month to go prior to our trip. I wouldn't be worried about it, yet, and while frustrating, I am betting that AK hours will eventually be extended in Jan and Feb as they get plans rolled out. We are going again in Jan and I am hoping to see some evening activities at AK too.

Disney has long been in the habit of adding park hours as bookings increase. February is 6 months away, so there's a good chance (some) park hours will be added.

That said, it has long been the case that AK was open until 6pm in the summer, and 5pm most of the winter. If you are going President's week, you may see an increase. If you are going the first week of Feb, I wouldn't expect much of an increase.

Sadly we also live in uncertain times. If Zika spreads, and FL tourism sees a sharp decrease.....

Just got back. We planned an evening dinner at the new Tiffins (had reservations but the restaurant wasn't even half full) after dinner we took the night time safari (had FP and waited 15 min they only use one loading dock) The wait for standby was 30 min. The ambience is really nice at night, a band played just outside of Tusker house. There is a "Jungle Book" show currently running in place of the ROL.

That is exactly what I meant. Stuff to do now but not when we go in Feb. It was just something new to look forward too. Always trying to do something new each trip even if just one thing.

DAK will be open at night from now on-we just don't know how late close will be as nightfall becomes earlier and earlier.

Disney isn't going to "bail out" on staying open at night with Tree of Life Awakenings,Night Safari already "online" and Rivers of Light and most importantly Avatarland(which will be spectacular at night) coming.
