OK, called Nintendo today. The repair agent walked asked me to try a few things, and when they didn't work he agreed it needed to go to them. He did say that the techs do everything they can to save the game data, so that's a hopeful thing. He also mentioned that there was recently a system update and was curious if maybe in our case it did not download properly.
I'll be sending it off via FedEx probably Monday (unless I can manage to get it packaged up and sent today). He said they'd have it back to me in about 2 weeks. So hopefully all will be well after that

Both DH and I have tech background and neither one of us can figure out why they couldn't just save the data off and then copy it back. Lazyness, I guess.

Now that DH will let me play with DIS'ers I will be more than happy to share whatever I have with you. My town is about 2 or 3 weeks old now, I don't have much but it's coming along. Once you get over the sadness of loosing everything, it is sorta fun to start over and do things in a different way, now that you know more. And, if you were like me and all your grass was gone, now you can save it and have snow this winter. If that is any consolation...
