An open letter to teenagers who rolled their eyes at me in the line at the Subway

I do? Everytime I make a mistake in my life, I'm to expect comments from the peanut gallery? Because they are perfect?

If you are on a cell phone and ignoring the person to ring you up...you think that is OK?

I know you looked looney...heck I do it all the time. :lmao: I do not worry about what the teens think of me.

Sorry about the rough stuff going one...you got alot on your plate...too much for me. Can you let some of it go...like some of the worry?

I'm making it sound worse than it is. Really I was just reflecting on teenagers. After getting yelled at by them in traffic the other day and then this, I was just wondering if they really do know what it's like to be an adult with a couple dozen layers of responsibility.

Does is ever really? :teeth:

There's always something to worry about, but sometimes when there are 3 or more at the same time I get a little unglued.

Thanks!

Well, ummm....no, they don't ever really calm down. :lmao: I was trying to be encouraging. :teeth:

Never said it was okay. Just said if I see it, I feel no compunction to point it out to the person committing the infraction. From her own post, she obviously was doing a lot of other things too. I'd just assume she was having an issue of some sort and wait my turn. No point getting huffy; it isn't going to get my sandwich made any faster.

Oh, I was fumbling around with my cell phone (DH calling me with the latest MIL story) and couldn't find some papers he was asking about in my purse and I was late getting back to work and it was my turn but didn't realize it and you know they don't like cell phones anyway at Subway and they shouldn't because they are a pain....

and I probably looked like a loon and I was in a bad mood. And I looked up and a whole bunch of them were just rolling their eyes out of their sockets. I was so stressed I really almost could have cried (how pathetic would that have been????) but I just sighed and got my lunch and started thinking.

Sometimes when people look like a loon they are just having a bad day. That's all. No real big whoop. I was just thinking out loud.
We have fast food store here that will not serve you if you are on a cell phone. So I really think the teens were not out of line.

So much for patience, and compassion. I want to be in line with Mal if/when I scew up next time.

Now what would my teens call you...Captain Obvious? ;)

Of course they were right that I was doing something wrong. But it was also obvious, to anyone with a heart, that I was having a difficult moment. Yes, I deserved the eye rolls, but it would have been so nice at that moment if I'd been spared them.

I totally understood your point!

Sorry they were snotty that whole eye rolling thing is enough to put any sane person over the edge!

I dont get why people think she was being a drama queen? I think she posted something from her heart and in the midst of her frustration. It never ceases to amaze me how nasty people can be over something so little.

You could have waited to answer your cell phone until after you had your food. I am not very tolerant of people who think that thier incoming call is so important that they can hold up others to answer it. If the call was that important then why not let the next person order while you take it? Sorry you are having a touch time but it is still not a reason to not show normal courtesy to the others in line. BTW that you for the new title. :rolleyes1

I totally agree with the 'insolent teen' comment!!!
We have all seen it.
We all know that many teens just delight in acting this way.
They are professional at it.

One persons mini-crisis is NO excuse for their behavior.

And, the eyerolling thing is actually the MOST offensive thing that one can do. It very much outweighs being cursed at or flipped off.

Shame on everyone here who is ragging on the OP for having one of 'those moments'. :sad2:

They, like the teens, must think of themselves as just perfect????

Hey, thanks for the tips! Maybe you should write a manual "Captain Obvious's everyday guide to perfect behavior.".

Just kidding. I guess you should avoid me IRL because I'd bug the heck out of you!!

sorry things are going so bad and hopefully they will look up soon.

When you were a teen did you ever eye roll? I remember thinking that the "old" folks just had no clue what was going on, etc....but I think most of my peers felt the same way. I would just chalk it up to teen behavior that most grow out of. We all have to go through it sometime.

Oh, I'm sure I did. But that's my point. I'm not saying teens are evil, just that they don't realize what it's like to be us.

How many "after school specials" and lifetime movies are there about misunderstood teens? The parents always get painted as self-absorbed fools. And we are self-absorbed fools alot of the time! :rotfl:

But sometimes there's a reason for it.

You know, if I'm in traffic and someone is driving like a fool it's possible that something is wrong and they are driving to some kind of emergency. If someone is rude, it's possible that there is something really wrong in their lives. I'm no different, I jump to conclusions. It's just something to consider when people are driving us crazy.

Well, Ann, if you had gone to MY Subway, this would not have been a problem. You see, they put in three computers for 25 people to try to use at one time. You go up to the computer and punch in your order, then go to the register and pay. They could have whipped around you and gone to another computer when you were fumbling with your cell phone. Then you could have gone all the way back to your office and found out that they left the spinach AND tomato off your sandwich. With the new computer system you can't actually see your sandwich being made now. But, I guess the beauty is that you actually don't have speak to anyone now.

Wow really? I've never seen that! Somedays it would seem pretty impersonal but sometimes I think it would be really beautiful not to have to talk to anyone! :)

I would just them a break --- considering they (teens) know it all think of the shock they are in for when they do have to "grow up"!!

That's true. I guess they should enjoy their blissful ignorance while they can. Good point! :)
