An Invasion of a "STRANGER" Kind.... NEW THREAD IS UP!! Go Thee NOW!

Oh boy, shopping!!!
Mexico has many little carts around the plaza with all kinds of goodies. An inexpensive item I didn't buy and wish I had was an intricate cut-out colorful paper garland. It might be more of a special to decorate for a party kind of thing than an everyday thing, but it was very pretty and totally cheerful.
As you say, Norway must have something in the small decorative category that is not all about Christmas.
When you get to Germany, they have hand blown glass bead bracelets that are only around $7.00. They come in a number of colors and are a great buy.
What a fun time you'll have!

Hmmm, yes I don't remember too much in the Norway shops besides the outrageously expensive sweaters, troll dolls, viking hats, and Laila perfume. But I do LOVE that perfume. Try it on every time. You did say you were planning on one big splurge, right? But I have a feeling you know exactly what it is going to be, so I guess it must not be the Laila.

First kiss? Mine was in junior high (or middle school, as its now called), too. Guess I'm a floozie as well!;)

Silly Goose # 1 reporting for Duty as long as it is not LATRINE:lmao:

Aye, Sir!! I mean Madam!! :hippie: That's as close as I could come to a salute. So, Peace, baby!!

Woohoo, finally got on and all caught up! So awesome your son was able to get a full ride, Liesa, I can't remember if we chatted about that on the phone, but I don't think we did.

I love the name Tate O'Patty...reminds me of a hashbrown! I also really love the pressed penny thing, we're going to be doing that as well..the best pennies are supposed to be the pre-1982 ones. I've been able to find some, but not as many as you'd think! I need to do some more digging now that we're home. I've also read you can get them on e-bay relatively cheap, but I haven't looked yet. Souvenirs around the globe sounds neat too. I'm glad your DH is home, hopefully you'll have some decisions made soon so you can firm up your planning, and have one less thing to stress about. Thank you again for the phone calls while Piper was admitted, I really enjoyed them, and it meant a lot hearing from you! :lovestruc Now to get back on my own PTR!

It's a great thing!! We are very excited for him for sure!!

Ha! T.O'P. won't be getting turned into hashbrowns anytime soon, but it does fit the bill for being a gender neutral name. GB comes up with some pretty funny stuff sometimes- well, most of the time.

About the pennies, that's what I thought I'd read. Pre 1982. But last time we went, I too had a hard time finding them. And they are right. We ended up using the newer (and dirty) ones, and our pennies are marbled and not so "clean" looking.

Souvies around the globe: I think this will keep me focused, keep my spending down, and keep my shopping to my desired minimum. If you'll recall, I'm really NOT a big shopper, but I do want to hit the stores AND have a LITTLE something to remind me of my trip by.

I loved our phone chats too! I hope they were encouraging and that it took your mind off of the heaviness of life at least just a little for those few minutes. Now, let's look together at the road of getting ready for your trip!! See you on your thread too! :rotfl:

Love the idea of a WS mini spree. Can't wait to see what you wind up with.

me too, I have a feeling it may be exactly the same or not at all like what I'm listing out here. :lmao:

OHhhh!!, Heather, those are fabulous ideas!! I"m sure I'm going to find many, many more fun things as I start to browse!! I like the paper garland idea! Not for a party per se, but for maybe in my sewing room or other place I'll be in a lot. I think I probably will end up sticking with the straw ornament, and like you say, I'm sure they will have a few things that don't scream Christmas. I'm not sure about Germany yet, but do have a couple of ideas now, thanks to my DISFriends!!

NOPE, not the Laila. But it is a (for me) big splurge. Tuck it away in your mind, or PM me, and I'll tell you if you're right. Maybe I could squirt some laila on my ornament and have that scent for a while. :confused3

Yup! Floozie alert! :lmao::lmao: Where were you?? I was (where else) under the bleachers. :rotfl2:

hey all,

Just got off the phone with maroo, and she has possibly broken her arm from falling on the ice!!! :scared1: Seems like it's been one thing after another in her world- I know she could use some encouragement and prayers!! She is trying to train for the half (?) in March with her friend, Lisa, and obviously this isn't helping.

That's terrible. She has been having a rough stretch. I hope it isn't broken. :sad2:

It has been hard. There have also been some changes at work which she has been pretty stressed out about. It's definitely been hard for here to do much DISsing.

The doctor who looked at it says she "popped a tendon"- whatever that means. I think she said she wants another opinion. I'm going to call her again in a bit, and I'll have more info.

I love being in the middle of posting, hit submit, and the boards are down for maintenance. :headache::headache::headache: :badpc::badpc::badpc:

I hope she is able to do the Princess. Heck, I hope she is able to go. We were planning a mini meet.

Same thing happened to me this AM in the middle of posting on SleepingBooty's. Arghhh!! :headache:

She says it won't affect her going or even running, but.... :confused3

Ni hao!!

Let's keep going- clockwise around the Promenade of Nations!!

China is next on our tour, and certainly there must be some sweet bric-a-brac to be had. After seeing the Clay Army, playing with the jumping water bowl, and hearing our own voices in the Temple, we will continue our little shopping quest.

My first thought was to find a nice, pretty pair of chopsticks. Wooden ones are more my style than plastic, and I'd love a long pair to cook with. However, I also thought a chopstick rest might be fun- so off I went to do some research. LO AND BEHOLD, chopstick rests are more traditionally Japanese, so that won't do.

The allears site says for about $4 they have some mini rice picker bamboo hats for sale.

The price is certainly right, eh? This might end up being the perfect pick to bring home to remind me of my visit to "China".

When you buy that hat, you should wear it for the rest of your journey around the WS! That might get you a few 'looks'!!!! :lmao:

It's only a tiny little thing- keychain sized; I was thinking Tate could wear it proudly!!

OH!!! WOOPS!!!

I guess that would get you some serious looks then! :lmao:

TOP would be stylin in that hat!!! :wizard:

Had to go back and make sure I wrote it correctly... ;) You never know... my brain and fingers are so flippin cold, I can hardly type.

I made him a little kilt today. I'll post it on Monday.

Preayers coming your way !!! I know they worked for Phil, Bree is slowly being taken off tubes so is on the mend but it is a SLOW process !!!

Oh! That's great news, Rosie!! So glad she is doing better!!! Slow, but steady is still great news!

First. Norway.

I love the straw ornaments! My (1st) exMIL was Swedish and she had a ton of them, they bring back lovely Scandinavian memories for me. They may also have the tiny little mugs and spoons that you'd use to serve Glögg.

Then. China.

Ok, the hat is cute but I was thinking about the actual use of it but if it would fit on TOP than I think it's a fantabulous idea!

:cool1: a kilt! I can't wait to see.

Long chopsticks to cook with! I'd never thought of that! :thumbsup2

I think the hat would be fun! What would you do with it once it was home?
