An honest review of Pop Century - just back

I'd get a headache EVERY time we came in to the room 30mins after and within 30mins of leaving the room it was gone. There MUST be something there I am allergic to.

if you are allergic to dust it could be if the ac comes on when you come in it is blowing out dust( it always does when it first comes on) daughter has the same problem with ac (even in the car) and since you can't really air out the room it hangs around. might be weird but i wonder if you left your door cracked open every so often( don't think the windows open) it would help

We took it with us to POR in June and it was wonderful. I set it on waterfall and it has a constent, soothing water sound that blocks everything out.

Doesn't that sound make you need to go to the bathroom every ten minutes?

I can disagree with the OP, we stayed at the POP for ten nights, and had an unbelieveable stay, we dont yell at our kids, and the rooms around us didnt either, therefore the room walls didnt seem thin at all, the food court was a zoo but I loved the way our kids could get their food while we got ours. And we would all meet up in one spot! I have only wonderful things to say about the POP and would stay there again in an instant!

Not at all. You just walk up and help yourself. There may be a person or 2 at most in front of you, but since there are so many drink stations it is never a problem.

Thanks OP for the review...I didn't know that about the thermostat!

We stayed at the Pop last year, and did notice that the plumbing was a bit loud. Luckily we did not hear any of our neighbors, but maybe we were lucky enough not to have any screaming kids next door!

We would personally stay at the Pop again, but having said that, am looking forward to staying at All Star Movies for the first time this December.

Only at POP one night in early May of 2004, I'm a light sleeper but I don't remember any noise problems from adjoining rooms because of thin walls. I do remember something to do with the exterior doors of other rooms being rather loud when they closed. At the time we were there crowds were sort of light, and the food court when crowded seemed not much different than say food court of POR at busy time of morning. Maybe next time I might have a bad experience, perhaps the time of year makes a real difference, but for a value resort our evening, night and most of a morning at POP were enjoyable.

And talking of thin walls, one night at mansions of POR family next door arrived in their room around 11:30pm and we could hear every word from every family member for an hour, finally had to call front desk to quiet them down. Maybe not thin walls, just the luck of the draw to get next door neighbors who all talk in loud voices. And I like the parents in that case who let their kids jump up and down on the beds at midnight and scream like banshees. Sorry, I digress.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. We were at POP in July and had a fabulous time. We did not hear any noise from other rooms at all. We could hear the odd toilet flush but I've experienced that at lots of other hotels as well. We had complete control of our thermostat so I don't understand why you wouldn't have as well. A glitch maybe who knows. The food court I can understand, it was very busy and noisy but for me personally it wasn't a problem. We tried to use it at non peak times. It's strange that there are such conflicting reports on this particular resort. I don't get it. I hope overall you enjoyed your trip.

Actually we ouldn't control the a/c in CSR either. Luckily it wasn't opressively hot in March (OK, the weather was frankly disappointing!) but on the few days it was warm we couldn't change the a/c. Mind you, some nights if got cooler, but we just pulled the blankets on and turned the fan off (soon turned it back on in the morning ) - we never even thought of phoning maintenance, just assumed it was because we were not used to a/c

We were at Pop from July 6th to 16th and it was very busy. That being said we didn't have any noise problems with the rooms. We did here the odd toilet flush but we never could hear comversations in the other rooms. We never had problems with the heat or AC either. It was always a refreshing cool and when it was too cold we managed to turn it up.

We also had no problems with the buses. I found with the exception of AK, the travel times were shorter than those at ASMo. I know that Passporter listss them as bein longer but I believe they are wrong. It took us maybe 5 minutes to MGM and 10 to Epcot.

The food court did get noisy but not so much that you couldn't have a conversation.

Overall, I would go back to Pop in a flash.

Regarding noise in the food court, does anyone think it would be quieter in the area where the big tv screen is (where Disney movies are played). I have not been to POP yet, but at ASMo, I found it to be quieter way over by the big screen since this area was "tucked away"?

I have a child who is overly sensitive to noise, so any info. would be greatly appreciated. She did fine at ASMo over by the tv.

I am staying at Pop next week for the 2nd time. Just to reassure some of you that are already committed to POP- I stayed in POop last year, October, and did not notice any of the issues raised in the original post in this thread. I am not saying the issues were not valid-- I would be just as annoyed if it were me. I just did not notice any problem.

Now, I DID have some issues with an All Star stay, when the hotel was loaded with cheerleaders....... (not picking on them, any large group can cause annoyances with those around them, not on purpose).

So if you are going to Pop, hang in there, it might be ok/

Nope, no flaming here Dodie, you gave a very honest and tactful opinion. I greatly appreciate an honest review, as nothing bothers me more than excessive noise in your hotel room, I understand the occasional bumps, or doors closing, but when it's constantly disruptive, I go nuts.

If the noise does become too much, and you can't find an area of the food court that's quiet enough, you can either take your food outside and find a table in one of the pool areas, or even take it back to your room and eat there.

Stayed at AKL last December and it has been the only resort that the noise from other room and from the hallways coud be heard in our Savannah view room. Never had the problem at any of the other Dis hotels we stayed in. So maybe it's the room not the hotel?

Personally, I never experienced any of the problems that you had during my Spring Break trip this year.

No paper thin walls.
Our A/C unit worked great...actually it was too cold most of the time!
Food court during the busy Spring Break 2005 season was very manageable.

I hope your next stay is better.
