An almost-girly trip ~ February 2009 TR!

I love all the countries as well -- my mother and I spent so much time just poking around and taking pictures.

I did see Mexican Donald, just once though, and we didn't get in line. His outfit was really cute!

Can you believe that we never knew about that shop until we went in 2008? :scared1: We just always assumed it was a big, cool-looking building...we had no idea it was a huge shop!

Lexi is in good company -- my mom, Kailyn, and I usually cannot walk by without going in. Some of the candy is good -- I like the apple gummies. Some of the other stuff, I'd like to try, but I worry that I'd hate it. I'm also tempted by the kimonos ALL the time but I don't know what reason I'd have to buy one!

'Dondle' is one of Brooklynn's favorite characters. He is cute in his Mexican outfit.

I'll be in Epcot Friday, but it's still a bit unreal. I want to be there from open to close to give myself time to see all my normal things, a few new things, plus as much Flower & Garden stuff as possible.

I'm enjoying your pictures, and I'm looking forward to more!

I love how she says "Dondle"! So cute!

The Flower and Garden Festival stuff is gorgeous. Disney already has some pretty topiaries, but the ones that they create for that are amazing.

Thank you! I want to do an update today, either before I go in to work or after, but I need to ask my dad's permission to post a video of him freaking out about the sticky consistency of spray-on sunscreen. :lmao:

Day 4 -- Saturday, February 14. 5 minutes of DHS and MORE Mommy and Meg time at Epcot!

So this is probably going to be where the details get a little fuzzy, because this is right around where I stopped typing up in Word the details of our day. I got really lazy about it for some reason, and I knew that I'd regret it when it came time to write the TR, but for some reason, the trip journal just got shorter and shorter. :confused3

We let my dad decide where he wanted to go today, since he had missed out before. He opted for DHS, so we headed there. We knew that it was the grand opening of the American Idol attraction, but I didn't think it'd be too bad. I figured that everyone would be there.

n505059094_1350624_3345.jpg

Doesn't look too bad, right? Well, the further we went the more :crowded: it got. We made our way towards Tower of Terror and Rockin' Rollercoaster, and when we got to RnR, there was a mass of people just waiting to get FP's. It was ridiculous. My mom and I decided that we didn't really want to stay, but my dad and Kailyn did, so they got in the RnR FP mass, and my mom and I went to get ToT FP's to give to them. That's the advantage to splitting up when there's an even number of people!

My mom and I headed to our park love.

n505059094_1350625_3673.jpg

Going with my mom was fantastic, because we both really love Epcot and like just meandering around, taking our time and taking lots of pictures.

We had a Boma reservation for 5:55 that evening, and it was probably around 12 or 1 at this point. We were both kinda hungry, but didn't want anything too big or too heavy -- just something to tide us over until it was time for Boma. So, we stopped in France. We decided to each get something different so we could try each others.

I got a raspberry suss. I am pretty sure I'm spelling it wrong, because I remember pointing it out to my mom and saying, "I want that raspberry thing, but I don't know how to say it." My mom got a lemon tart, and we took them outside to find a table to sit at. We found a place right in the shade.

n505059094_1350626_3998.jpg

n505059094_1350627_4320.jpg

The raspberry pastry was good; my mom's lemon tart, on the other hand, was delicious. I took one bite and wished that I had gotten that instead. What I liked was the sugar sprinkled on top of it. I kinda want one right now. :rotfl:

I also got a coffee. I think it was a mocha latte, because it sounded good (I'm a Dunkin Donuts fiend and love their mocha lattes), and I like pretty much any coffee drink I tried. This, however, I just could not drink. It was SO STRONG. I took one sip and went, "that's WICKED strong." It tasted like a cup of nothing but espresso. I could only take tiny sips, and I tried drinking it because I felt bad that my mom had dropped $4 on it, but she told me not to worry about it. She tried a sip as well and her reaction was pretty much the same as mine. At least I know that I won't be trying the coffee in France again.

We left France and headed for Morocco. We both really wanted to explore the area behind there, because we had never really had the chance to before.

I was incredibly tempted by the tile.

n505059094_1350629_4981.jpg

I didn't buy it, though. I thought it was pretty reasonably priced, especially by Disney standards, but I didn't really have any place in my room to put it. I wound up getting plenty more souvenirs, anyway. :rolleyes1

I had to take a picture of this sign, because I love "That 70's Show."

n505059094_1350638_8061.jpg

Japan was next.

n505059094_1350639_8395.jpg

That's the only picture I have from there, apparently! We moved on.

n505059094_1350640_8736.jpg

This was right before I completely freaked out because there was a bee hovering right next to me. I'm afraid of bugs like silverfish and beetles, and I'm even more afraid of bugs that sting. The only time that I got stung by anything was when I was six, and it was by a wasp on the side of my neck. I've gone about 19 years without getting stung, and I'd like to keep that streak going. So, I bolted. This part stands out very clearly in my mind for some reason. :rotfl2:

After I recovered, we moved on.

n505059094_1350641_9099.jpg

n505059094_1350642_9455.jpg

It was getting later, so we decided to stop by Club Cool for a little drink and a place to sit down.

Hidden Mickey in Club Cool!

n505059094_1350644_163.jpg

The view from where we sat.

n505059094_1350645_517.jpg

I texted Kailyn and asked if they wanted to meet at AK so we could kill a little time and then just take a bus from there to AKL. She said yes, so we headed out.

Up next -- a little a little bit of AK, and some AKL!

It's so handy to have 4 people in the group to get fastpasses for each other if needed. :thumbsup2

I should have known you would head off to Epcot. :rotfl2:

The desserts look yummy!

Cool stuff in Morroco. :)

How did I miss your update earlier in the week??? :confused3

The french pastries look delicious -- that raspberry thing has my mouth watering!

My tiles!!! Well, they aren't my tiles yet, but I want to get some and then decorate my kitchen around them this summer. I am kicking myself for not buying them last year!

I bolt from stinging bugs myself -- you're not alone!

It worked out so well!

Yup, if it's just my mom and I, you can pretty much guarantee we'll go to Epcot. :rotfl2: The desserts were really good, but I am totally getting the lemon tart next time!

I love Morocco. I was really tempted by the tiles but I just couldn't think of any place in my room to put it. Once I get my own place and can decorate however I like, I am so buying some!

That's okay!

The raspberry thing was really good, but I LOVED the lemon tart that my mom got. The petrified lemon on it amused me, too. :rotfl:

That would look amazing! And that way, every time you are cooking, you can be reminded of Epcot. ;)

I bolt from every bug, but especially the stinging ones! I just can't tolerate them. Silverfish don't sting or even fly, but they creep me out even more than beetles. OMG. I caulked up my room last year because I just couldn't take them!

Non-update time!

For a while, I've been debating more tattoos (I had one already), and I finally decided on which one I wanted to get first. I started Googling Celtic tree of life images, and finally found one that I loved. My parents agreed to pay for one for my 25th birthday next month. I planned last week to go to the tattoo parlor of choice today -- Tuesday -- just for a consultation.

I got there, picture in hand, expecting to not be able to get it done today, and didn't really register that I was the only one there at the time (it was like 40 minutes after they opened), so I was shocked when they asked for my driver's license, photocopied it, copied the picture, and gave me some paperwork to fill out.

I'm one of those people that usually needs mental preparation, so before going in to anything major, like this, I need to prepare myself. I hadn't wanted to psych myself up too much and then be let down when I couldn't get it today, so I would say I was about 25% mentally prepared, NOT 100%. So I guess this experience was good for me. :rotfl2:

The very nice girl who was to do it for me came out and talked to me about the color and shading and location (my right shoulder blade -- I want to be able to hide it when need be), and then told me that she'd just be a few minutes while she got her area set up. I had left my phone in my car, so I bolted down to my car to call Charles quickly, and he was surprised, asking me if I wanted to come pick him up, but fine when I said I was okay. He might have been a tad relieved. :rotfl:

The whole thing took maybe 40 minutes, and I was very glad. It kinda hurt, but it wasn't unbearable, and I'm a huge wimp when it comes to pain. I'm also terrified of needles. I'm the one that cries and goes into a panic mode when it comes to getting a shot or having blood drawn, but I'm okay with getting a tattoo. :confused3

2646_1043209520615_1236900013_30148113_5127555_n.jpg

I'm so ridiculously excited over it, and I'm really excited to get another one on my left shoulder blade so I'm more balanced out. :rotfl2: It's still a little red around the area, but it doesn't hurt any more than a sunburn.

I'll have a REAL update within a couple of days, I promise -- I still need to upload more pictures, and I've been procrastinating on my take-home quiz for my Thursday class. :rolleyes1

Have a good night!

Oh my gosh! I'm so glad that you posted a pic! I was really wondering what it looked like when you sent me that text earlier! I really like it! And my cheesecake was really good :goodvibes just in case you were wondering :thumbsup2

Beautiful tattoo!!! I just love it -- Celtic designs are always so gorgeous!

Thank you so much! My next one is actually going to be a Celtic knot (that's the one that will go on my left shoulder blade) -- I'm wicked excited about it. :goodvibes

Thank you!! I was going to send you a crappy picture that I took of it with my phone, in the mirror, but I don't know if the one that I sent to Michael went through, so I figured that you'd have a better chance of seeing it on Facebook or on here. My phone likes to be uncooperative sometimes.

I'm glad that you enjoyed your cheesecake :goodvibes I really hope that Charles wants to go there for our 3 year anniversary in April b/c I am dying for it now! I might have to take a trip there to get some at some point.

If you'll excuse me, I need to go warn people away from your TR now. :rotfl2:

Oh, to be shopping in Epcot right now!!!
Very nice pictures.
Love the Moroccan tiles. I took a couple of pictures of them, too, last Friday.

I didn't even get a chance to eat a pastry from any country this time.
I need a do-over! :)

You do need a do-over! Did you at least get a pretzel from Norway??

I'm squeezing in a quick update before I leave for work and then go out for the weekly bowling with Michael, Charles, and some others!

Day 4 -- Saturday, February 14. A lil bit of AK, a lil bit of AKL, and Boma!

After I discussed with Kailyn and my dad (via text messages) meeting up at AK, my mom and I hopped a bus to AK.

n505059094_1350646_883.jpg

I didn't take many pictures, because I was getting hungry (I had only had something at Pop, then a pastry), and I tend to get grumpy when I'm hungry. I did manage to take a picture of this, though...

n505059094_1350647_1241.jpg

Baby Simba in a blanket! They had lots of "baby" versions of characters in blankets and they were so adorable! I really wanted to buy one, but I didn't.

We found a bench just inside the park and I texted Kailyn to let her know where we were. They got there, and we were trying to figure out what to do. I was noticeably hostile because I was hungry, and really wanted to get something quick to eat, so we headed over to the Dinosaur area and got a little snack. I ended up with a churro and a root beer float, but I didn't bother with pictures.

We meandered back to the front of the park and discovered that the Jammin' Jungle Parade was going on. It was SO PACKED. I had really wanted to see this parade, but we didn't have a lot of time, and people were standing 4 or 5 deep. It was crazy. I held the camera over my head and snapped a picture while walking but I forgot to upload it.

Once we got through the crowd, we made a pit stop in a bathroom, where I looked in the mirror as I was washing my hands, and discovered that I had gotten a sunburn. I was wearing a t-shirt that day but didn't really think of the possibility of my arms and my face getting burned. It wasn't bad (I've had much worse, trust me); it was just annoying.

This is my arm,

n505059094_1350650_2351.jpg

and this is me being appalled over it.

n505059094_1350649_1985.jpg

We made our way to the AKL bus stop to go to Boma.

Kailyn wouldn't take pictures with me, so I took pictures by myself.

n505059094_1350651_2706.jpg

I can't remember if I mentioned this or not, but my mom is an infant/toddler teacher, and one of the songs that she sings pretty much every day is "The Wheels on the Bus." She said that she had told a coworker that she was thrilled to not have to hear the song for over a week. I'm sure you know where this is going. :lmao: I found the bus driver absolutely hilarious, but my mom was less than amused. My dad and I were singing along.

After that amusing (or torturous, if you're an infant/toddler teacher), we arrived at AKL. I so want to stay here one day!

n505059094_1350674_4681.jpg

n505059094_1350675_5049.jpg

"Hey Meg, get a picture of this!"

n505059094_1350676_5409.jpg

Our reservation was for 5:55, and it was around 5 when we got to AKL. My mom, Kailyn, and I poked around in the gift shop and my dad went to get us checked in, then we all went to the lobby to wait.

I walked around to take some pictures, but I didn't want to go to far, since I'm severely directionally challenged. Charles could tell you stories about me not even being able to follow a GPS.

n505059094_1350680_6870.jpg

n505059094_1350681_7253.jpg

I love the chairs in the lobby, but they're so big and overstuffed that your feet don't touch the ground. It makes me feel like a little kid.

n505059094_1350683_8003.jpg

Our pager went off around 5:20, so we were seated a half-hour early!

This is my first plate. I didn't really keep track of everything that I ate, but I did try for food porn pictures. I also have this weird thing about my food touching, so all of my plates at buffets look like this.

n505059094_1350684_8377.jpg

A hunk of flatbread with two kinds of hummus (sun-dried tomato and olive), coconut rice, and a hunk of meat. I'm not a coconut person, because I hate the texture, but I don't mind the taste. I liked the rice, the hummus were good, and the meat was really good! I forget what kind of spices were on it, but it was yummy.

This is my dad's plate.

n505059094_1350685_8743.jpg

Coconut rice, meat, and some watermelon salad with watermelon, blue cheese, and tomato. It sounds weird, but I ended up getting some as well and liked it a lot.

Now for dessert. This is clearly the most important.

n505059094_1350686_9110.jpg

Banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce (YUM!), cherry cobbler, pineapple upside-down cheesecake (YUM), two zebra domes (YUM!), and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the little thing between the domes. I know that it had alcohol in it, and that it was REALLY good, but I can't remember the name. Guess I need to go back and find out!

We were absolutely stuffed after. My dad ended up getting tea, and they served it with a few different kinds of tea.

n505059094_1350689_236.jpg

Tilt your head to the left...there you go. See the little face in the water? What the heck is that about? I noticed it as soon as I took the picture!

While Dad enjoyed his tea, I helped myself to lemonade and diet Coke,

n505059094_1350688_9864.jpg

and Kailyn peered at me through a straw.

n505059094_1350691_1009.jpg

Up next -- a very, very short update. Spectro and a short-lived night at MK (I don't even want to do this part because it's when Kailyn got sick :sad2: )

Have a fabulous Friday!

The picture of Baby Simba is so cute. Then the dessert picture makes me want to put Boma on my next time list.

I love the pictures with the glasses, family fun.

Thanks for feeding my addictions, Megs! Both AKL and zebra domes are two of my favorite things at WDW! :goodvibes

Okay, the face in the tea water is just plain weird.

We like to sit up there around the fireplace in the lobby or outside in the big chairs around the storyteller's firepit. I think the floor in your chairs picture is also pretty cool.

I had two and a half zebra domes last week. Kay and I shared the five pack from Mara. One was for me, one was for Charleston Princess, and the other half was because I like them too much to be nice enough to tell my friend, "You go ahead and have the extra one." ;)

In heaven, I know there will be zebra domes in the buffet line!

Hi, how's school and work going.....:goodvibes

Your so brave to get a tatoo by yourself. It looks so beautiful. My favorite color is Blue. :thumbsup2

The baby Simba is adorable, too cute for words. :simba: Lexi says "Awww he's so cute".

Ouch, I hate sunburns. :furious: I always seem to get them too.

GLASSES!!! :rotfl2:

I'm too weary of the Boma dinner, I don't think my kids would try any of it.
I tried an olive hummus last year at my sisters and it was fantastic. I've been looking for it in the stores ever since with no luck. :sad2:

We will be going to Boma for breakfast. :lovestruc

I am on a mission to go to Mara for some Zebra Domes in August. Thanks MeMom for the tip, I didn't know they sold them by the box. ;) Do you think they will be there in the morning? or do they put them out at lunch? :woohoo:

Patrick now thinks I'm crazy because I apparently went from a horrified expression to rolling on the floor laughing in about two seconds...

For some reason I completely forgot about that conversation and I was wondering what I did to make you worn people away from my TR :sad2:

And then I remembered :thumbsup2

I loved all the "baby" versions of characters -- I was totally hoping for a Goofy one but no luck.

Boma is really good; I'd go for the desserts alone. ;) And I'm glad that you like the pictures with the glasses; I think it was our best antique shop find, and definitely the best $12 my dad ever spent!

I wish I could've made the sacrifice and had another zebra dome or six for you, but I was STUFFED.

School and work are kinda crazy, but not bad. In one of my classes (curriculum in early childhood education), we're supposed to do lesson plans, and I turned in the wrong one last week because I misread the syllabus. :confused3 Luckily my prof is very laid-back and will probably just laugh when I explain it to her. How's work going with you?

Thanks for the compliment on my tattoo -- I love it! And thanks for thinking I'm brave. :rotfl: I was really proud of myself for going it alone. I love blue as well, and I let the girl who did it pick the two shades of blue -- she picked good ones!

You need to let me know how the breakfast at Boma is. We've only ever done dinner. I'm not sure about the zebra domes, but let me know if you find that out too.

:rotfl2: :lmao: That's hilarious! I think I told you before that it's gotten to the point where if I'm reading something on my phone and laughing, or just texting like a fiend, I can say "Katie" and have that be enough explanation, or Charles asks "Katie?" and I say yes.

I'm so glad you remembered, because I would've felt bad if you didn't and were confused as to why I was suddenly being mean. :rotfl:

LOL! Like I've said before, Patrick now goes "Meghan?" when I have one of those moments....makes me wonder if Patrick and Charles will get along if we ever get to meet up! They would probably have plenty of stories to share about the two of us....hmm...not sure if that statement deserves a :scared1: or a :rotfl2:

You need to let me know how the breakfast at Boma is. We've only ever done dinner. I'm not sure about the zebra domes, but let me know if you find that out too.

:rotfl2: :lmao: That's hilarious! I think I told you before that it's gotten to the point where if I'm reading something on my phone and laughing, or just texting like a fiend, I can say "Katie" and have that be enough explanation, or Charles asks "Katie?" and I say yes.

I'm so glad you remembered, because I would've felt bad if you didn't and were confused as to why I was suddenly being mean. :rotfl:

LOL! Like I've said before Patrick just goes "Meghan?" when I'm having one of those moments! Makes me wonder if he and Charles will get along if we ever get to meet up...I'm sure that they would have tons of stories to share about the two of us....hmmmm, that makes me wonder if that statement deserves a :scared1: or a :rotfl2:

Edited to Add: Although since my trip report seems to be the "never-starting tr" that would be reason enough to warn people away!

I think Patrick and Charles would probably get along well...I know that Charles would probably like being on the same eye level as someone for once :rotfl:

Oh yeah, Charles would probably have TONS of stories, especially if I use the GPS and have issues following it. I wish there was a combination of :scared1: and :rotfl2: because that definitely deserves both!

You have an excuse as to why you haven't started so I won't warn anyone away :rotfl: Not saying that I would otherwise... :rolleyes1

Gee thanks! And I'm directionally challenged as well, so don't feel like your alone. We have been working at this one job since December and I've gotten lost coming home 3 times now...which is really hard to do since there are only two exits that I need to take :rotfl:
