Amy's New Start : Comments Welcome!

Sometimes you need a little freedom to indulge. Sounds like it was a good time. I know how tempting cocktails can be. Once on Disney Wonder DH and I did the martini tasting and several people didn't show so they were handing out LOTS of extras. Those fru-fru drinks tasted great going down but then they hit me like a ton of bricks. I crawled under the blanket in our stateroom and stayed there with my head spinning while DH went to the show. Then he somehow got me to dinner, insisting I needed to get some food into me (which did help a lot). You had a designated driver so may not have some fun. :goodvibes

Thanks Ladies.

I really got back on track with exercise this weekend. Now that my knees and ankle are finally okay, I have no excuse not to! Saturday ds brought his friend to the rec center, dd swam, and Dan and I walked upstairs on the track. We got in 50 minutes, I had to walk very hard and fast to keep up with Dan who is a fast walker. I was huffing and puffing but I kept up. Then today, I took dd and her friend so they could swim and did 60 minutes of walking and about 12 on the bike. I had told the girls I would treat them to ice cream (why not have ice cream following swimming when its only 18 degrees I figured) afterwards. So we go into Dairy Queen so they can get their cones and all of the sudden I was so wanting sweets. But I held off. I did have one bite of dd's cone which was enough to at least get a taste. I was so glad I resisted, it would have taken me two minutes of ice cream gorging to undo 72 minutes of cardio at the gym!

Above all, I am happy because all four of us had an active weekend and I so want my kids to get in the habit early on being active and healthy!

It has been snowing all weekend and bitter cold. I don't think we've seen the sun since Wed., which is unusual for Colorado. I am afraid to look at the forecast to see what the week ahead has in store!

I picked up a scheudle of classes at the gym, they have other aquasize class that are not "senior" besides the two I already attend. I think I'll start doing two more a week. That would give me four classes of aqua and if I walk before at least three of those and then do a longer walk one other day, I'd have a good combo of toning, strength and cardio. I also noticed they have a beginners yoga on Friday's. I could go right after Weight Watchers but I am a bit nervous to do a class alone out of the water. But I'd really like to try yoga. I'll have to see. Maybe I'll walk on the track this Friday while its going so I can observe (the track is near the yoga room and its got big windows) and see what I think.

Food was pretty decent yesterday and today. I had a few slipups but nothing that was horrible. Weekends are tough, especially when its cold and snowy and all I want to do is sit inside and eat. Which I didn't do.

Final bit of good news, some of our best friends want to go to WDW in October of 2011 which is when we had already planned our trip after this upcoming one. It would be really fun to go with them. Dan and I both have agreed that we will only do WDW with who we think know vacation in the same style we do at WDW, and I know this family and ours can travel well together because we camp a lot and get alone very well. Over the past few months we've talked about how fun it would be with our friends but until last night never really nailed down when and if this would work. So I guess its a go, its still a ways off but they said they were already saving for the trip and really wanted to go with us. I felt them out about resorts and they said they need value which is perfect for us because I am done with overspending on my resort choice! It will be fun to plan this together and have this to look forward to. We'll have 18 months between this next trip and the October 11 trip. We haven't gone that long between Disny gigs in 7 years! Guess I'll survive.;)

I will probably have to get to journals tomorrow, ds needs the computer to do that last bit of homwork he's been saving all weekend.:rolleyes1

:cool1: that your knees and ankels feel better.

:woohoo: that you all went to the rec center AND you were able to keep up with Dan

 on avoiding the ice cream. Me, I  MM Blizzards. Love your will power.

:yay: that you are looking into other/more classes. I think you are ready for that next level.

How wonderful that your friends have decided to go with you. You are so right on only going with those that you know vacation the same as you. I have learned that lesson well.

Have a great day today Amy!:goodvibes

Amy, You are doing great with your workouts! Its good that you have a variety of activities that you can participate in at your rec center. Sounds like you have the same type of senior aqua class that we do. Ours is part of the Silver Sneakers program thru one of the insurance companies. I tried it a couple of times since its held in the morning, but all the ladies want to do is yak, yak, yak all during class. We have evening classes that are a bit more intense without all the chatter.

You should try the yoga class! It will help with flexibility and also is great for focus and that "zen" state of mind. Let us know if you try it.

Have yourself a great week!!!!!

Great job with your workouts, Amy!:thumbsup2 That's great that you're looking at adding some more classes to your workout rotation!:thumbsup2

Your trip to WDW with your friends in 2011 sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun!:cool1: I bet it will be fun planning the trip as well. :goodvibes

Hope you have a great day!

Laughing, Amy - i know that feeling...the just out of the oven thingee...some aromas about kill me. Right now he's sticking with things like banana bread now, since he knows i don't eat it

glad the migraine passed...they are the pits

that's odd the teacher told him that...wouldn't a teacher want him to continue learning what he could while he's in school?

awesome on the search/rescue thing...if he's interested, it's a great experience and one he'll rememeber. I ran with a rescue squad as an EMT years back and they were really good experiences

ooh, i saw something on tv on green beret selection or something...was fascinating to watch

great job on keeping a plan in place -- okay, kept reading...LOL, ahh, you enjoyed yourself, no guilt, move forward - it was one night

i started with hot flashes probably around 38? I'll be 43 this year...my sister is fully through menopause at 45...i'm so ready and jealous! LOL

good job on resisting the DQ...ooh, blizzards, choc ice cream with reeses...have had one too many in my time...which is part of how i got here ;)

Great job resisting the ice cream! DD is so used to me having "just one bite" that she often just hands it over to me as soon as she gets it... :rolleyes1

I like your exercise schedule. And I think you should definitely try the yoga! :cheer2: Just go for it. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much ladies. I am just dead tired tonight. We had one of those busy weekends with barely anytime at all to relax and then today I was on the go all day long. I am wiped!

I did make it aquasize today and I liked the insturctor very much. So far I have tried three classes and all three are different with a different emphasis. This lady today focused a lot on abs, Thursday's is a lot of arms and Tuesday is pretty much straight cardio. I figure with four different aqua workouts I can pretty much bet my whole body will be worked out one way or the other! And then I still intend to do the walking as well.

Ds' search and rescue is a no go. He can't be excused from the training weekend in June when we have family here for Dan's dad's memorial service. We also had a long talk, ds is one busy kid and right now I just cannot see how he (and me his favorite limo driver lol) can add another thing to his scheudule. There's always next year. He was bummed but then put into perspective of "if it was meant to be it would have worked out". Frankly, I am relieved because it was going to be a big expense of time and money neither of which is plentiful around here these days!

Food was good today so it was a good start to the week!

Amy: I think I managed to talk a friend into going to yoga with me! I tend to want somebody to do the first class with then after that I am fine. She belongs to another gym but loves yoga so I told her I'd treat her to one class at my gym if she'd be my mommy my first class!

Deb: I always thought of menopause as being something for your fifties, but I guess I was clearly wrong! Your day is coming!

Tracy: I am already psyched for the 2011 WDW planning! I guess I'll wait until this trip is over before I add it to my ticker.;)

Denise: That is too funny, the older ladies in my aquasize yak all the time too! The new instructor on Thursday yells at them to be quiet but they just ignore her. And they keep complaining to mgmt. about the intensity of the class but hello, they have their silver classes four days a week and some of us who aquasize aren't "silver" yet.

Lisa: I know you have also learned that "don't do WDW with everyone" lesson too! I may be a slow learner, but I do eventually get it. I know it will be great fun with this family and I feel really good about it.

That abs workout in the water sounds good. Funny how each instructor has their own emphasis but it sounds like it all balances out.

Smart idea on treating your friend to a yoga class to entire her into coming with you, hee hee.

Great job on the aquasize, Amy!:cheer2: How are your abs feeling today?

I like how you have invited your friend to the Yoga class with you. :goodvibes That is a great idea!:thumbsup2

I'm sorry to hear that things didn't work out for your DS and the search and rescue class. He definitely has a great attitude about it though!:thumbsup2 Maybe it will work out for him next year.:wizard:

Hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

Omg, just a quickie, my abs are killing me! She had us doing these belly dancer type moves in the water (not a pretty sight thank goodness I was submerged lol) and I didn't think much about it until I got up this morning at 2:00 to let the dog out and wondered at first if I was having TOM or stomach flu symptoms and then realized it was that workout!

Time to pop some advil. But the good news is that if I am hurting this much, I worked out some muscles that I don't normally get to focus on. :thumbsup2

That's a good workout when it makes you sore! :goodvibes And I think it's great that the different classes focus on different areas - it'll keep your body guessing and keep you from getting bored! :thumbsup2 I hope you like the yoga class, I'm glad your friend will go with you.

Poor DS, but that is a good lesson for him to learn. Sometimes things don't work out, no matter how badly you want them. Sounds like he has a good attitude about it though. ;)

Thanks Tracy and Amy.

I did my aqua class today, normally Tuesday's instructor doesn't do much wiht abs or arms but today she did! Even though I was sore, I kept up and now I am not as sore as the day has wore on. Food has been okay, I really struggled not to graze all day but I held my own.

Not sure about yoga this Friday, dd has the day off and I told her maybe she and I could do something or I'd take her and a friend someplace. If I don't do this week, hopefully I can do next. That yoga class is smack dab in the middle of they day so it just may not work this week. But I am determined to try it out soon!

I cannot believe my trip is just 31 days away! I realized today I need to have the kids try their summer clothes on, they haven't had that stuff on since September and who knows what fits and what doesn't. In some ways, this is my favorite stage of a Disney trip, that month before you go and have so much anticipation. Knowing me, I'll get blue just before I leave knowing my trip is about to happen and therefore soon to be over! I am weird what can I say!

Hope everyone is having a great day.:)

Amy: Ds was really upset at first but when I pointed out a few things, he did realize that sometimes things work out for the best and started getting busy thinking about other volunteer service projects he can do with the time he'll have since he's not doing the rescue thing.

Tracy: I did get an ab workout, the instructor had just gone to a class for instructors and learned a bunch of new stuff she wanted to try out. All I can say is if sore muscles are an indicator, it worked!

Barb: I tend to get bored with doing the same thing so decided its up to me to find a way to vary my workout routines. Heck, I am paying for those classes whether I take them or not so I might as well give them a try!

Good idea about trying the summer clothes on! :thumbsup2 We have the opposite problem here, since most of the year is spent in summer clothes, I never know if the winter clothes fit! When we went to WDW a couple years ago for Christmas break, I packed everything without having the kids try anything and DS's sweatshirt was super small and only covered his arms to his elbows! So our first purchase was a $50 sweatshirt at MK... :rolleyes1 You must be getting so excited, only a month away!

I'm glad your abs feel better, sometimes working out again when you are sore actually does stretch everything out (but sometimes not! :confused3). I hope you are able to get to yoga, and if not there is always next week! :goodvibes

31 days...woo hoo! The excitement must really be building.

Good for you for resisting the grazing. I know that can be a challenge at times (it can be one of my own pitfalls).

:woohoo: Disney here you come! 31 days and counting! I am so excited for you.

Sorry to hear about DS, but he is a really smart kid with a great attitude.:thumbsup2

Maybe DD and her friend could go to the rec center and swim while you do yoga? Then you could take them somewheres else after?

:cheer2:Sounds like are really getting some great workouts in:cheer2: Gram used to have the same complaint about her aqua class. A group of ladies who yak, yak, yakked. :lmao:

Hard to think of summer clothes with winter still here isn't it? Good thing you thought of it now. :goodvibes

One month planning. ... love it.

Woohoo!!! Your trip is so close!:woohoo: That's a great idea to have the kids try their summer clothes on!:thumbsup2

You're doing a great job on your workouts!:cheer2: Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

Amy, good job with the aquasize stuff...good to know the differences in the class so you can work your full body -

i'm going through clothes this week..changing sizes, i'm like yikes- what fits, what doesn't....haven't been in shorts since November (last FL trip) so i'm ready again!

yeah...your trip is getting close

glad DS's search/rescue thing works out in a manner that helps your family...maybe next time

Thanks everyone.:goodvibes

I didn't make it to the rec center today and I probably won't. I had coffee with a good friend of mine, I had planned on only meeting for about 45minutes to an hour but we ended up talking for around three hours. Her son was just diagnosed with aspergers (sp?) and she needed to talk and of course I am always up for some gabbing, but more than anything, I just couldn't say "gotta go" after she told me that. I am glad they at least know what this is and can get their son what he needs to deal with this. But I felt so bad for her, they have been through so much and are such good friends to us.

Now I am home getting things done. I notice that when I work out like this, time slips away. The house is sort of a pit upstairs and its making me, the anal neat freak, a bit uneasy! I need to sort laundry, pay some bills, send some emails and just the little things that add up that I haven't been getting to. I will have done five of the last six days by the time I weigh on Friday and I am good with that. But I'll have to wait for next week to try Wed's aqua instructor. Oh well, sometimes you have to prioritize and just do what you can!

I am making spaghetti for dinner, I have been trying to avoid pasta but I got the Barilla Plus variety that is much better than the regular variety but to me tastes better than the whole wheat kind which I am not in the mood for, I want to taste some good old fashioned regular noodels like my mama used to make! To me this feels like a splurge, I started this hankering for Italian food since yesterday and this feels like a good compromise and better than a trip to Olive Garden!

I have a conference for dd this afternoon, I am going to try to get in a walk but I am not sure I will. If not, again, my workouts have been very good this week and a day off is not going to be a big deal.

I'll get to journals later, hope everyone is having a great day!

Amy: I remembered you said to work out sore muscles and it will help and you were right! It was tempting to tread water and not do those ab exercises but I swear they started to feel better right away.

Tracy: Trying on summer clothes when its cold outside is a perk of taking a trip to WDW when its not summer yet!]]

Lisa: I may take dd to the rec center too, or I may just drop them off at a movie. I also found out I need to buy a yoga mat for this class and I may not have time to get to Target to do that before Friday anyway. Details, details!

Barb: Grazing is one of those hobbies of mine I need to shake NOW!!

Deb: Your trip is really close too! Have fun giving away all those clothes you have slimmed down too much to wear!
