Amy's Journal: Comments Welcome!

Hi Amy,

Great job getting your workout in!:thumbsup2 I may join you in the April exercise challenge. :goodvibes

How did weigh in go today? Hope it went well for you!:goodvibes

Have a great day!

Hi Amy
Thats great that you went to the rec centre especially when you wasnt feeling like going :)
Keep going you are doing amazing & we're all soooo proud of you :)
Hope WI was positive!

Thank you Stacy, Tracy and Tracey!

Weigh in was very positive. I was down 4.5 pounds since I went two weeks ago. Maybe my body has settled in to burning fat and still building muscle. Who knows! I am very happy but just trying to take it in stride and not let the number make or break my day.

I ran errands after WW and stopped by Del Taco for my bean burrito fix. I partly wanted to do this because it was late in the afternoon for lunch and we are having an early dinner out with stepdad. I figured a bean burrito would stick with me and in fact I am so stuffed I feel sort of ill. I ate it really fast in the Sams parking lot because I was rushing like crazy to get my stuff done. However, that full feeling got me to thinking that there is no way that burrito can have 5.5 points that I have been counting (I think I have three of these in the past month or so). So I came home and looked on Dottie's website and sure enough the larger size (I asked the guy at the window, what the weight of this one is and he said 8 oz.) is 9 points! Way more points than I have been counting. The smaller one (which I have also gotten when I have a taco too) is the 5.5 one. No wonder I am full.

Food today:
Oatmeal w/ skim and one TB walnuts: 4
Fiber One Bar: 2
Burrito: 9
Total so far: 15

I have 15 points left for the day. I picked a steak house for dinner, I plan on having a grilled bbq chicken breast and salad. I want to be full because this place serves peanuts in the shell and really good rolls and I want to increase my chances of not eating a bunch of those before my dinner arrives. Given the way I feel now at 2:45 and the fact we are eating dinner early at 4:30, I think I may be onto something. I also got my Mexican food fix, hopefully for the week! And that burrito has 13 grams of fiber, between that, my fiber one bar and my oatmeal I should be pretty good in that area!

Today I plan to not workout. But my friend is picking me up first thing tomorrow and if she can't again, I will just go myself.

Things I am proud of this past week:
Got three workouts in
Sent all the leftover enchiladas from our dinner party on Saturday night with DH for lunches this week.
Gave cupcakes from dinner party away and threw the last two out.
Drank my water each day
Tried to stop when I was full and really evaluate why I was eating, was it hunger or something else.
Joined April Exercise Challenge

I will add what I ate for dinner and catch up with everyone this evening. Thanks for reading!

Also, I added a WISH 15 pound clippie. I miss my old 30 pound one but fifteen pounds is fifteen pounds. Might as well have something to show for this two year journey!

Hi Amy!! What is "Dottie's website"? I'm lost.. LOL

and congrats on the weight loss!!!!!

YAY on the loss!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:  :yay: :woohoo: :thumbsup2 And that 15lb clippie is better than a 0lb clippie, right? You will get that 30lb one when it's time. ::yes::

You have a lot to be proud of this week, I'm glad you recognize it. :goodvibes

I'm glad you are watching the Paul McKenna show, I think it really does help make you more mindful of what you are putting in your mouth! I am amazed at how little food it actually takes to make me full, have you found the same thing?

You're doing awesome, keep it up!:)

Hi Amy!! What is "Dottie's website"? I'm lost.. LOL

and congrats on the weight loss!!!!!

Its www.dwlz.com Its run by a Weight Watcher named Dottie, it has points values for a huge amount of restaurants as well as success stories and other tips. Its free and has been a huge help to me through the years! You will notice the points are listed sometimes two ways, in black and then in red. Use the red point values, those are computed using WW's current system. The red ones are usually higher but you might as well be current in your figuring!

Amy: I have been amazed at how little it takes to fill me up. For instance today I ate that burrito by itself. Last time I got a taco with it, and I am sure I just ate that taco because I had ordered it. Today I was full all afternoon on the burrito alone. I also have been allowing myself to eat what I want but just really enjoying it. He cracks me up and looks a lot like my husband (except for the glasses and the accent)!

I did pretty well at dinner:
1 small chicken breast with bbq sauce: 5
Salad: 3
Rice: 2 (I had only a few bites then realized I didn't even want it so I stopped)
Two bites of dessert: 2
Peanuts: 4
Total for dinner: 16
Total for the day: 31, 1 flex point used

I was about to start eating some more of my uneaten food due to some stress that suddenly came up during dinner (see below) but then handed it off to a passing waiter instead! Out of sight and not on my waist. I was upset not hungry, if I would always have done that in my life, I woudl weigh about 120 pounds.

I got a bit of a shock when stepdad announced he has a date on Friday. And that this is not their first date. Some woman who lives in his building. I knew this was coming but I was still taken aback and totally caught off guard. He has also been having lunch with his hairdresser who happens to be 40 years younger than he is. My mom used to say she thought he had a thing for this woman and she started out thinking it was sort of funny but then it really began to upset her. I used to tell her she was being paranoid. I do have to say he talks about the hairdresser all the time and she sent him a valentine that he basically carried around like a teenager with a crush for about two weeks. I doubt this woman wants anything more than a fatherly type friend but I do have to wonder what exactly my stepdad is feeling about her. All of this sort of freaked my kids out, but I assured them that Grandpa just needs to get on with his life. They both didn't say two words the whole way home and ds said he hopes Grammy is not up in heaven upset that Grandpa is dating. I assured him Grammy doesn't worry about anything anymore. I have to say if anything happens between him and the hairdresser my mom is liable to haunt them both and me too for calling her paranoid!

Congratulations Amy!

:worship: :worship: :worship: You have done great, and the scale shows it. You will get you 30 pound clippie back in no time, then it will be the 50.:thumbsup2 I am so impressed with you for getting the food from the party out of the house. That is the type of positive steps that will lead you to success.

Keep up the great work!

Take care,
Beth

Thank you Beth! I really almost fell apart tonight when stepdad announced his dating plans and there was ds' half eaten piece of cheesecake and dd's uneaten french fries there for the taking! But I didn't. I feel like an alcoholic who has to pass by the open bar at someone's wedding reception!

I'm proud of you for putting that 15 pound clippie in, Amy. :thumbsup2 You have earned it and you deserve to have it in your signature.:goodvibes Before you know it, you'll have the 30 pound clippie back in your signature too!

I'm also proud of you for the way you handled your stepdad's news. You gave the extra food away! That is awesome, Amy!:thumbsup2 Like Beth said, you are making a lot of positive steps in your life that will lead you to success. You are an inspiration to me!

I hope you have a wonderful day today.

Oh dear. Life sure does have a way of throwing curveballs, doesn't it?

DH's dad started dating a couple of months after his mom passed last spring. Luckily someone had pointed out to me that single men of a certain age usually don't stay single or long--especially when they have jobs and all their hair ;) (DH's dad is 54.) I was able to prep him for it so it didn't totally come out of left field, but it was still hard to swallow.

I'm so proud of the way you handled yourself! It's so easy to decide the rules just don't apply in an emotional situation. You kept your head in the game and made the choice that would support your long term health and happiness. Good for you!

I hope today is a great day! :dance3:

Hi Amy
congratualtions on the loss & the 15 lb clippe:)
That was a very strong willed thing to do - to not stress eat & getting the waiter to take it away!
Especially after stepdad dropped his bombshell!!!
I think you have taken the news very well - it does seem soon for him, but some people just heal in different ways!

hey just noticed - congrats on getting to your 100th page :)

Congrats on passing up the rest of the cheesecake! I know how hard that must have been! GREAT JOB recognizing that you weren't hungry, but upset. Paul McKenna would be proud of you - I know I am! :thumbsup2

Wow, what a shocker, but you just have to realize that stepdad is at that age where he doesn't really want to be alone. I'm sure it was really hard to handle, and hopefully the kids will eventually understand that it has NOTHING to do with him not loving their grammy. I'd really be wondering about the intentions of the 40-something haridresser though...

Thanks everyone. I have sort of felt a bit shell shocked all day, but in the end its not worth being upset over. Given his good looks and charm and the fact he lives in a community with probably hundreds of widows and divorcee's he's a hot commodity! I figure let his sons worry about their dad and who he keeps company with. I know he loved my mom but in the end, she's gone. He has every right to go on and should. I am so glad I cancelled that trip to WDW with him in October before I knew about this. I wouldn't want him to think I am angry about his lady friend and punishing him. I just don't want to vacation with him anymore. It really doesn't feel right anymore and given his age and health he has no business being that far away from home with no immediate family around to handle anything that might come up. Enough about that. If he runs off to Tahiti with the hairdresser, I'll let you all know!

I walked today for 65 minutes. Took ds to the mall for new shoes, shirts and lunch. I told him I was having Subway but he could have what he wanted. No worries, Subway is his favorite. I skipped the chips because I had told him when we finished shopping we'd get a Dairy Queen. I did get double meat on my sub, I am not kidding I was so hungry I was ready to eat the table.

Food today:
Breakfast: Fiber One Bar, milk: 4
Snack: V8 Fusion: 2
Lunch: 6" Subway Club with double meat, no cheese, extra veggies: 8
Snack: Small Blizzard, OMG this thing was 17 points! This is why I should carry my WW food companion in my purse. I thought it would be around 10. Too bad, so sad it was 17. But very good. Still, I could have had half that points or less with a cone or ice cream bar. Lesson learned. On the flip side, I could have had the large size!

Points so far: 31 And I haven't even had dinner yet. And, I am starving. I have a roast on for dd and dh (ds is going to a church thing so he gets pizza lucky kid). But I plan on having squash soup for three points. That will put me 4 points over. All for one little cup of ice cream with some cookie dough chunks in it. Oh well, again lesson learned. I just need to push the water and have nothing but that soup. Its very filling.

Thanks for reading my journal, I will catch up with everyone later tonight. And post my dinner results!

Pearlieq: I think men of a certain age do indeed have a hard time being on their own. Like you and your dh, we all sort of knew this one was coming.

Tracy: I do feel like, "hey I lost the 15 pounds and kept that off" so I put a clippie back in my sig. What the heck

Tracey: I hadn't even noticed I was up to page 100!

Amy: The hairdresser thing is weird in some ways. It so obvious he has this crush, I would be totally uncomfortable with that if I was her and wouldn't want to lead the old guy on. Go figure.

Dinner: Did not eat squash soup as I didn't have any. I think maybe dh must have taken it for his lunch, who knows. I skipped dinner for awhile then got starved and made a quesedilla and had a granola bar. So I ended up having a 9 point dinner which puts me another six points over for the day. I didn't make the best choices, luckily I have the flex points. I also technically have something like five extra points when I work out for that hour but don't think I'll take those. Given my weight, I get enough points and dont see how I could lose much if I take those points above and beyond what I alread get. Tomorrow is another day and hopefully will be a bit more sucessful. Although it could have been much worse and at least I kept track of what I ate.

Amy, we all need those days sometimes, don't worry, today is a new day, and you did GREAT by walking for 65 min!! Good for you!!!

I know what it's like to want to eat all of the table sometimes when you are so hungry.. LOL But, i have found that if i eat small healthy meals thru the day, then i am less starving at dinner..
:)

Have a great day!

Great job getting that walk in, Amy!:thumbsup2 No worries about the food, WISH sis. Today is a new day with new choices!:goodvibes

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Well, I am pretty sure yesterday's Blizzard was not 17 points. Was talking with my WW friend and she asked if I got the small or "smallest" , I said smallest of four sizes (they had the cups lined up on the counter and I picked the littlest one). That is apparently a kids size and not a "small" and not listed on DQ's nutritional info or in WW's or Dottie's calculations. She said the old WW Restaurant Companion had that size listed and she thinks its 8. Oh well, I am going to still count it as 17 but I am done with Blizzards. I will in the future have a cone, since I don't know how to count this kiddie size I am not going to gamble with that again. If that tiny blizzard was 17 points, that was the biggest point ripoff of the century! I have now made up a cheat sheet of various places like DQ, Baskin Robbins, Cold Stone etc and put it my purse. That way if I am out and about and decide to have something like that I will know what I am getting. I would have never had that Blizzard if it was indeed 17 points. Lesson Learned!

Today I walked for sixty minutes. Then I took ds to the movie, we saw Drillbit Taylor. I have to admit, in spite of this being a corny movie loaded iwth teenage boy crudeness, I haven't laughed that hard in months. And Owen Wilson, well what can I say? He is so cute and alas, you get to see him showering on a beach. I have turned into a pathetic old lady... Ds and I for once liked the same movie!

My food today so far:
Oatmeal w/ walnuts and skim: 5 (have realized I have been counting this as six, its actually one point less, yippee a whole extra point to burn!)
Lunch: Bean burrito: 9, V8 Fusion and some carrots (2)
Snack, small amount of popcorn and a few of ds' Reeses Pieces: I am going to guestimate and count this as 6, which is likely quite a bit too high. I was glad I had the burrito, smuggled that into the theater in my purse to avoid too much mindless munching. My theater now gives free refills on any size popcorn, that could have been nasty. I have been noticing I am really hungry lately. Maybe its the walking. In any case I stopped and got the burriot because that thing fills me up and today was no exception. That sub sandwich yesterday was quite the opposite.
Points so far: 22
That leaves me 8 points for dinner. No idea what we may have, I have some chicken breasts I can grill or I may have a Lean Cuisine. I have no desire at this point to overeat. The small amount of popcorn and candy really satisfied my junk craving which is good.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Congrats on behaving at the movies! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: That is a really hard thing to do, especially when they give you free popcorn refills! popcorn:: My weakness is the white cheddar sprinkles. I go a little overboard, to the point where DH won't eat it and I eat the whole thing... :confused3

You are doing REALLY GOOD at counting your points and adjusting for when you eat more than planned. And the fact that you are not tempted to overeat is amazing! :woohoo: I think you are more in tune with your body right now and that is why you are going to succeed!! :goodvibes

How's precious little Daisy doing? My kids keep begging for another puppy, but I told them that Buckley would become depressed because they'd be all over the little one and ignore him. Did that happen when you got Daisy?

Holy Banana! 17 points for a Blizzard! I never even would have guessed! I really admire the way you handled the situation, though. The purse cheat-sheet is a great idea.

You have been doing such a great job the past few days being mindful about your food and making balanced choices. I really admire the way you're planning, thinking through things, and making trade-offs for the things that are important to you. You rock! :thumbsup2

I'm so glad to hear you and DS had a fun outing today. There's something to be said for teenage boy humor every once in a while--sometimes it just hits the spot. And yes, Owen Wilson is not hard to look at for an hour and a half either. ;)

You've really done great with your walking--you're going to blow right through your goal in no time! Is it warm enough to walk outside by you or are you doing most of your walking at the rec center?

I hope you have a fantastic weekend! :yay:

You did a great job at the movies, Amy!:thumbsup2 And an Owen Wilson movie? Sign me up for that one!:cloud9: His brother, Luke, is not too hard on the eyes either!;)

Wow! A Blizzard is 17 points?!?!?!?!?! I eat one with my family every couple of weeks. It's amazing how quickly calories and points can add up.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Amy!
