Didn't follow this thread last night but HOLY COW, did Janet Jackson sound like Michael Jackson on the first song or what?? It was almost creepy.

Yeah, he was pretty emotional.

I remember season 1, Kelly started crying while singing and sort of stopped just for a few seconds and then started up again.

Last year Kris made it through the song but I still have the image of him and his wife just standing there hugging each other for dear life after he was done in my head. Emotional moment.

I think Lee just sounded off because it was just so rushed into it...they wasted so much time and then they just rushed the "moment" and he wasn't even really done talking when the music started to play and he had to start singing...no time to get into the groove so to speak.

Today was my little brush with semi-celebrity. Big Mike from Idol came to town to visit some local schools. First he got a key to the city and it was proclaimed Michael Lynche day. Then I interviewed him as we drove in a limo to the first school. As we drove up, I heard screams getting louder and louder. The school had cheerleaders doing cheers, kids screaming, and teachers going nuts. He did a small concert there then talked to kids who are going through the same performing arts program he did. His message for the day was for kids to work hard to get what you want. At the next school, there was a small mob scene in the cafeteria. Girls were crying, kids were knocked to the ground, and everyone was trying to get him to sign their yearbook. Then he did another brief concert in the gym, followed by another small mob scene. My crew left at that point, but he kept on touring other schools to talk to the kids.

I know most of you weren't Big Mike fans, but he was very nice and so was his family. Their baby was so sweet and mellow, even with all the craziness going on around her. I'll have to upload my picture I took with him and post it later.

I always heard he was from New York or at least his family was. What difference does it make, we don't want to claim him either....

That's odd. On the show he talked about being from St. Pete a lot. He said where he lives now tried hard to get him to call them his hometown, he's in Astoria, NY. But he definitely grew up in St. Pete. Just about every teacher that taught him, he worked with, or his mother-in-law currently works with was out in full force today.

Robin - he actually talked about living in New York and how surprised he was when he first got there at how rude everyone is. Though if he's ever met any Yankees fan (kimmar), I don't know how he'd be surprised.
