My now 13 y/o dd and I have been watching for awhile now. Missed that first season, but started with #2. So.....we're sitting there last night, mouths hanging open, wondering why in heaven's name anyone would go on national tv and make a complete fool of themselves. DD told me that now she actually understands why I 'critique' her when she is on-stage, she says that obviously there are people out there who have no one to prevent them from making fools of themselves!!!
No one last night was all that great. Yes, the young man who sang, who's parents hadn't supported him, was pretty decent. And the 'over the rainbow' girl was good. But, I have to tell ya....all those goings on when the 'rejected' kids got through the door (finally finding the right side to exit from!!!), man, I just wanted to scream. Did none of them have parents that had been firm and honest with them?? Did their parents really, truly believe they stood a chance? Yes, there were some that did have decent enough voices, but nerves may have impacted their auditions. But, please...the mouths on some of these kids, and the utter dejection....makes you wonder about their basic stability. It's very scary. I'm not really looking forward to seeing much talent for awhile yet.
And Paula??? Just trying to ignore her. What a sham she is. And all that snickering and laughing when someone is auditioning...that I find to be in truly bad taste. Yes, there are those who are really truly bad, and they should never have been there to begin with. But, I have to tell you....I've sat on boards that have been audtioning people and there is no way I would have behaved that way. That's just plain rude. I hate, hate, hate that laughing while someone is 'performing' and I use that term loosely!!!
