American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

The best part of this show was watching Paula. For the most part, they did not even let her talk. I think it was because she was drunk or something. The way she was clutching that cup...:drinking1 I thought more people would have commented on her

did anyone find the people trying to go out the wrong door funny....It had me laughing everytime

I actually thought the guy dressed in the American Flag had a good singing voice.

Am I the only one that looks forward to the Hollywood part of the show and beyond? I just get so tired of the auditions. Yes we know that 98% of the people that show up are no good, and that 25% of them are freaks, but do we really need 2 hours of it?

Flame away....

Last nights show felt a little too "contrived" to me. Seems like they're trying too hard to find the next William Hung. Judges seem too self-aware of the cameras being there....like they were making the funny faces TRYING to be funny....instead of just being spontaneous.

Maybe they are going to replace Paula with Jewel.....have you seen the video on YouTube of the interview with Paula last week....obvious she was wasted on something.

Is this the season that American Idol "jumps the shark"?

I think they're trying to focus on the strange and weird and the simply awful and are probably encouraging it. I mean, of the 17 that made it, how many did they show last night? 5-6?

And look at the previews for Seattle. FREAK SHOW.

I think some of the contestants are contrived too. Did you see how long it took that one girl crying for her makeup to run? Fake tears until she could finally get herself to well up?

And Simon was trying to look like the good guy to Randy's bad guy some of the time. Randy was getting quite nasty. Instead of hearing the same insulting remarks (although they did move from cruise ship singer to WDW entertainer), how about just more good & bad performances. Cut out most of the judges comments.

Like another poster said, thank goodness for dvr, I ran though all of the commericals & watched in a fraction of the time.

I felt like the guy who sang while juggling the sticks was "acting" after he came out of the room. My thoughts were that the folks with him were other members of his local acting ensemble.

No flames here...I'm with you. I watch the auditions anyway, because my DD's love them, but I wish they would move on to Hollywood much faster than they do. Maybe roll all of the cities into 2 2-hour specials with the 'worst of the worst' and then get on with it!

I get sooooooooooooo bored with the audition episodes!!! Tonight was pretty bad. I agree with most of you, let's just move on to Hollywood. Honestly, no one blew me away. I'm hoping for bigger better things in Hollywood.

I just have to say, ABBA week!?!!? For real!?!?! I would love that!!! :)

I freely admit that I loathe these audition weeks. Oh, you occasionally get a decent surprise performance - the Navy guy last night was pretty good, IMHO - but for the most part it's just the loonies coming out of the woodwork to get their 15 minutes of fame.

My now 13 y/o dd and I have been watching for awhile now. Missed that first season, but started with #2. So.....we're sitting there last night, mouths hanging open, wondering why in heaven's name anyone would go on national tv and make a complete fool of themselves. DD told me that now she actually understands why I 'critique' her when she is on-stage, she says that obviously there are people out there who have no one to prevent them from making fools of themselves!!!
No one last night was all that great. Yes, the young man who sang, who's parents hadn't supported him, was pretty decent. And the 'over the rainbow' girl was good. But, I have to tell ya....all those goings on when the 'rejected' kids got through the door (finally finding the right side to exit from!!!), man, I just wanted to scream. Did none of them have parents that had been firm and honest with them?? Did their parents really, truly believe they stood a chance? Yes, there were some that did have decent enough voices, but nerves may have impacted their auditions. But, please...the mouths on some of these kids, and the utter dejection....makes you wonder about their basic stability. It's very scary. I'm not really looking forward to seeing much talent for awhile yet.
And Paula??? Just trying to ignore her. What a sham she is. And all that snickering and laughing when someone is auditioning...that I find to be in truly bad taste. Yes, there are those who are really truly bad, and they should never have been there to begin with. But, I have to tell you....I've sat on boards that have been audtioning people and there is no way I would have behaved that way. That's just plain rude. I hate, hate, hate that laughing while someone is 'performing' and I use that term loosely!!!

I thought this was the funniest part of the show. My DS and I were laughing each time a judge would say very quietly "other door." Myabe they should have unlocked that door or put a sign on it saying "other door." :)

The woman who roared like the lion from the Wizard of Oz was too funny and too clueless.

I'll be joining you folks in this thread after all the "crap" is done. I hate this part.

There was most definately more than 17 out of 10000 singers that were better than what they portrayed on TV last night. It sure makes those that can at least carry a tune look bad when they pick goofballs like they showed last night to represent Minnesota.

Actually I like the audition part the best, I guess its the part of me that likes to see a train wreck. I don't have my hopes up (after last year) of this year producing another Carrie Underwood anyway, so for me its pretty much just about a laugh. The ones that make it through all seem to have the same 2 or 3 sets of styles, I get really sick of the girls trying to sound like Mariah Carrie, I mean she's a great singer, but I'm jjust so played on that style.

And what's up with the people covering one ear like they have studio headphones on? I can understand closing one ear to hear yourself, but covering one ear like they have a headphone on? They see singers on TV recording music ... but they're actually LISTENING to music. PRETENDING TO just looks ... stupid.
