American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

I have been working through all these audition shows and it's starting to tick me off!

One more week of nights (I hope) and then I can settle in and watch my favorite show!

Like when someone puts their hand to their ear when they sing. Most of the time I wonder if they even know why that is done and how dumb it makes them look. In those cases though--usually the person can't sing anyway. But the hand on the ear I think is their attempt to "look" professional.

That drives me nuts! Don't they realize how ridiculous they look?

1. The tone-deaf girl who had her hand to head, didn't sound like she was speaking English. I was really surprised at how she broke down when they asked if she was for real. She REALLY thought that she could sing!

2. Loved the cousins. I hope the one who got picked does well.

3. Glad they called that girl back. To me, her facial expressions weren't that bad. She has a great voice, and I hope she makes the top 20. (Now watch, I'll be eating my words when she turns out to be a HORRIBLE person in Hollywood!)

I actually enjoyed last night's show and thought there was some talent to watch as Hollywood week is coming up next week.

Umm, NO to the rebel yell guy.

I liked Hayley who sang I can't make you love me and Baylee Brown was both beautiful and talented.

Then, at last, an audition that had me :rotfl: Cousin #1 doing Amazing Grace completely cracked me up. It was right up there with last year's winner... I Shot The Sheriff. Cousin #2 was excellent.

Aslyn who got a second chance was my favorite girl of the night. Personally, I didn't notice the facial expression. I really liked her low key delivery and the pitch of her voice. So many of the female singers could shatter glass! Glad to see they gave her a golden ticket.

Best of the night for me was Jimmy, the final contestant. He'll be one to watch in Hollywood.

Quote of the night... The OTHER DOOR! That bit they did on the door problems was hysterical. :rotfl2:

The girl with the facial expresssion....uggghhhh...I noticed them before the judges even said a word about them. I thought "OMG, does she really need to do that grimace-thing??" Then when they called her on it I was stunned because I thought I was being nitpicky.

I am glad they called her back though. I think she can sing and she should be given the opportunity to work on her problems.

I like the girl who made all the facial expressions. Call me crazy but I think it is very creative and fun to watch her sing! ;) I look forward to seeing much more of her.

I am soo glad the auditions are over... Well not really because they are the best part, but still - lets get on with the show.

Ditto! she made me crazy but I did like her voice and she is very beautiful.
Hope she overcomes the mouth thing!

I LOVED the cousins! The first one was hilarious!:lmao: :lmao:

I thought his exit was priceless!

I haven't watched AI from the start in the previous seasons. Now that they have had the auditions and folks are "off to Hollywood." how do they narrow it down to the top 12?

Boy is this show addicting!

I agree! We are glued to the TV every Tuesday and Wednesday night!

The Hollywood round changed a bit....

I can't remember how the first day goes exactly--the groups are split into two...last year one auditioned while the other got a tour.

That day--they make cuts...

Then they are grouped into trios (I think)...and have to memorize a song and do a routine (nothing big--just don't stand stiff on stage or dance like a weirdo).....From there.....they decide who goes onto the next round which is viewer votes.

I don't recall how many make it to that round--but it is 10 or so performers per week for 4 or 5 weeks....and the top 2 make it to the final 12.....

Then they do a "second chance" week.....or something where they pull from those performers who they think get a second chance.....then the viewer votes and that is the final 2....

And you get the top 12.

(rough around the edges sketch but that is the basic idea)

We are close-sort of. I'm up near Boulder.

Lisa Loves Pooh, thanks for describing how they get down to 12 contestants. It sure is a long process. I guess that is how they stretch it out to May Sweeps :)

yes yes yes! that was so funny. "thanks all, now i'm going to have to talk trash about you, but it's just for the cameras." :rotfl:
i enjoyed cousin #2 a lot too. he was the only person who stood out to me last night (in a positive way). i thought bailey & jimmy were good singers, but kinda boring.

Well, we won't see the cousin who actually made it because AI pulled his yellow ticket and he didn't get to go to Hollywood because of something they uncovered in his past. He was on the Dallas news last week talking about it and saying how unfair it was but I can't remember what they found on him.

Geez, if all that is true... That STINKS!

Wow, I looked it up. He claims not to know why since he told them about his midemeaner marijuana charge. Check this out:

It was a misdemeanor charge.........hmmmmmmmmm...........I wonder what the rules say because I know there have been contestants that have had past charges against them for things and they still competed and then there were contestants that had charges against them and they didn't compete - wonder if it has something to do with how far in the past it's been.
