American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

To let me know he is OK!:goodvibes With the Cheney thing going on, I didn;t know if he was still in that section of Afhganistan but he was moved 3 days ago! Now, on with the show.......FEVER? A guy singing FEVER? OK, whatever, its not that good....

Wonderful news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes :grouphug:

I agree with others that Sanjaya needs to go, but unfortunately will be around for a while:sad2:

Last night was so much better than last week. I was happy to see that the boys picked songs that were better suited for them and it definitely paid off, with a few exceptions;)

I thought last night's show was great...really entertaining. A nice change from last week's show.

Phil- I agree with those that say he's hard to watch. When he has the mike in front of his mouth and all you see are his eyes and bald head....it's just kind of freaky. I think he has a good voice and I do like him (mostly because of his back story), but he doesn't really do anything for me. I liked his song last night and I think he did ok. Don't think he's going anywhere.

Jared - I think he can sing fairly well. But I think he's way too into himself. A big turn off for me. I think he way overperformed.

A.J. - I thought his song choice was good actually. I didn't know the song, but I liked it and it allowed us to see how good he really is in terms of singing. But like others, there's something about him that bothers me and he's just way too peppy. I think he'd be great on Broadway. I think he might be going home though because he doesn't have the backstory to push him like others.

Sanjaya - Bad. The boy is so nervous. The song definitely didn't show his voice off. He should definitely be going home. Not sure that he will though.

Chris S. - I love this guy. He has such a unique and great voice. I found his band's website yesterday and listened to their stuff on myspace. I really liked their sound. And Chris wrote the songs too. Anyway...the song I found to be pretty boring, but he sang it well and he won't be going anytime soon. I agree with the poster that said once he finds the right song, he'll blow everyone away.

Nick -I'm really surprised that so many said that they don't think Nick can sing well. I think he has a great voice and I love his tone. But Simon was right on. He just doesn't have that spark. Pretty much any of the top 24 could make an album and sound good...even great. But American Idol is about the whole package...about having something special about you that makes people vote for you. Nick, unfortunately, doesn't have that. And I don't think he ever will.

Blake - I saw the hat before he performed and I groaned. Hate the hat. He's so cute and has great hair. He needs to lose the hat. He looked so good last week. Anyway...I loved his performance. Loved the song (loved the song last week too). I loved that he did his beatbox and scat thing a tiny bit. He is so talented in my opinion. And he definitely has that spark.

Brandon - Beautiful man. I liked the song and thought that he sang it well. But he really needs to show his stuff off and so far he hasn't done that. If he's given another chance, he needs to come out and really do something great. I thought he took the criticism well.

Chris R. - Count me as someone else that was shocked that all 3 judges thought he did great. I think it was a good song for him and I think he's talented, but I'm not a huge fan of him. I really didn't think the judges were going to like his performance.

Sundance - I knew from the moment he started to sing that he was going to bring it. Good for you Sundance! I don't like the song either, but it was a great choice for him last night. The boy can sing. Such a difference from last week.

Best performance of the night: Blake

Who I'd like to see go: Sanjaya and Nick

Who I think will go: Nick and A.J.

My husband and I were watching together and I kept saying, "Can we just skip over Randy and Paula each time?" It's painful to listen to them say the same stupid stuff...especially Paula because the girl just sounds sooooo stupid when she opens her mouth. Simon is the only one I care to listen to. I thought he was a jerk to Brandon though. The whole bit about "my mum's birthday is in November". I thought that was uncalled for.

Can't wait for tonight...although I always prefer to watch the guys do their thing ;) IF they perform well, that is.

I guess you are right....they are starting to run together for me....I dont know who they were thinking about then....

It was Josh Gracin I was thinking of. All the seasons run together for me too.

My top 3 last night:

Chris Sligh
Sundance
Blake

Bottom 3:

Sanjaya
Nick
Jared

Who I think should go home:

Sanjaya
Nick

I agree with dolphindan. (omg did I just say that? :rotfl: ) I'd like to see Brandon stick around a bit and see what he can do. He does have a great voice, hate his song choices!

carissanboys, I agree with almost everything you said. With the exception of Nick, I don't want him to go home. I think the tone of his voice is fantastic, he just needs to learn to work it out on stage. I'd much rather AJ or Phil (and definately Sanjaya) go before him.

I haven't caught up reading posts from last night.
I just have to say..............WAY TO GO SUNDANCE! I was really surprised.
Chris S. is still my favorite male singer. I think he did a good job last night. However, I think Sundance did a super job last night!
I hated Sanjaya. His looks were just too creepy. He dressed like Michael Jackson and talked like Michael Jackson. I don't know how to explain it, but he just was a bit too freaky for me. I think his performance was very weak.
I still don't like Chris R. I don't like how he constantly bobs and moves. I wonder if he sings a slow song if he still bobs and moves like that?!?!? It would be interesting to watch.
I really agree with dolphindan; Brandon has a wonderful voice. He didn't show it off too much last night, but it is still a great voice. He needs to stay longer. He shouldn't be leaving yet. I hope that Sanjaya will go. I like Nick's tone to his voice, but I think he should be the second one to go this week. I think Brandon is better than Nick.

Check it out!!! I'm buying this for all the Sanjaya DIS fans!!! :lmao:

To whoever posted the sanjaya fans link, I think that will haunt my nightmares. :scared1:

None of the performances WOWed me - if the girls keep the level of their performanaces up like they did last week?...watch out, it will be an all-girl finale.

Here is my pet peeve with many of the AI performances so far, ESPECIALLY most of the guys(like Sanjaya) and SOME of the girls(Antonella). What they don't seem to GET is this...not every song should be sung the same, not every song deserves the same delivery. There are different subtexts to songs, different emotional work that needs to be done. It frosts my cookies when these people are given such an incredidble showcase for their talent and they just don't get it that NOT EVERY SONG SHOULD BE DONE WITH A SMILE, not every song shold be 'perky'.

The TRUE *intent* behind many of the songs is entirely missing. They should all be taking lessons from Lakisha. Her last couple of bars last week, that moment (of anguish) when she hesitated...masterful.

agnes!

agnes!

Gawd how I hate that song...it's on my Richard Simmons Sweating to the Oldies video.

Are you talking about "Fever"???? Because I have the same video and my sister and I always laugh about Richard going "sizzle!!!!!" in the middle of the song! :lmao:

Chris Richardson was my favorite last night. The worst ones were Sanjaya and Nick. Unfortunantly, according to dialidol, Sanjaya got ALOT of votes. One of my co-workers said he heard that there is a group of people who vote for the worst one. IF that is true, that would be Sanjaya. :sad2: So he may not be going anywhere soon. I think we should brace ourselves for someone really good to get voted off.

yuck! I hope that is not true......

What you said!! ::yes::

I'll never understand why people do this. Sad that people resort to something so childish. :confused3

I'm honored :)

And the more I think about it, I'm not sure why I said I want Nick to go. I'd rather watch Nick perform than A.J. or Jared. But based on performances last night, I think Nick's was weaker than the previous two.

I agree. I think part of it might be nerves. I think it's hard to "feel" a song when you're so worried about performing. I keep thinking that part of Antonella's and Sanjaya's problem (besides nerves) is that they're too young to have the emotion to put behind the songs. But then I watched Bianca Ryan perform on youtube yesterday and she's only 11-12 and she gets it. So I don't know.

I think Antonella is a gorgeous girl (and one who doesn't wear a ton of makeup and still looks beautiful) and I do think she has a naturally good voice. If she can get over her nerves and put some confidence into her singing, I think she could do great things. But I think her nerves will win out. I do find it refreshing that a girl as gorgeous as she is doesn't act like she knows it. You'd think she'd have more confidence in herself.

Absolutely! I could barely wrap my brain around the depths of a performance like those from a child of only 11!! :faint: I believe you can learn how to entertain somewhat. But people like Bianca, Taylor, Lakisha and Bo, to mention a few, have been given a fantastic gift.

Well if dialidol is correct, looks like sanjaya is 2nd most popular, and Nick and Brandon are going home. :( That’s majorly messed up.

For those that like Chris Sligh and who haven't checked it out yet, his band (who he is "officially" not a member of at the moment ;)) is called Half Past Forever and their myspace page has 4 original songs. I like "In A Moment" and "Know".
