Man, I took such good notes last night and I forgot them at home this morning. Well, I'll wing it.
Phil Stacey - Missing You - I enjoyed his singing but he is not a top runner. His looks are also way to distracting. He gets a solid "6".
Jared Cotter - Let's Get It On - This guy is so sweet and I really want him to do well, but he just doesn't have the whole package. He's another one that is just somewhere in the middle for me. Another solid "6".
AJ Tabaldo - Feeling Good - Gosh, I'm not anti-gay but this guy is just too fabulous for my taste. His theatrics are distracting to me. His voice is okay. I'll give him a "4".
Sanjaya Malakar - Steppin' Out With My Baby - What is wrong with this kid? He sucked. I don't know if he is Michael Jackson's #1 fan, or what, but he has to go - soon! He gets a "1" only because he seemed to be in tune.
Chris Sligh - Trouble - I loved this. Chris is so great. I was worried that he was singing a song that Taylor did last year, but I think he did it just as good. I couldn't really compare them because he really did it in such a different style. I'm giving him a "9".
Nick Pedro - Fever - I am definitely in the minority here, but I love Nick and I did "Vote for Pedro". He is the only one that got my votes because I looked at Dial Idol and saw that he needed them. I'm just not ready to lose him yet. He has a smokey, sexy voice that makes me melt.
Blake Lewis - Virtual Insanity - This guy is such an entertainer. I have no idea how he hasn't made it big by now. I love his voice but he also has the beatbox and dancing skills as well. He gets a "9"
Brandon Rogers - Time after Time - What???? This guy is just an idiot. I don't care that you are singing to your dead grandmother - if I had heard that on the radio, I would have changed the channel. He needs to go home. He is a background singer for a reason. He can sing, but he doesn't shine.
Chris Richardson - Geek in the Pink - I completely loved this performance. I could hear this guy on the radio - oh wait, I do hear him on the radio. He is JT's long lost brother. But, while I'm not normally a fan of that genre, I really am enjoying this guy. The problem is that I so want to hate him since he is nothing but a copy cat. That said, he still gets my only "10" this week.
Sundance Head - Mustang Sally - Okay, I'm from Louisiana and we hear this song at every bar and every wedding. Sundance did a fabulous job, but the band hindered him quite a bit. They didn't have a strong enough down beat (is that what it's called?). When you are jitterbugging, you gotta have a strong down beat. I still really enjoyed his performance. Here's the problem - he's like Taylor. I loved Taylor and wanted him to win so badly. But, when I bought is CD, I was so disappointed. Sundance and Taylor are good for local bars and small venues. They aren't suited for large sell-out stadiums. Last year, I would have fought to the death with anyone who said what I just said, but now I see it to be true.
My favorites this week were:
Chris Richardson
Blake Lewis
Go home:
Brandon and Sunjaya
Now, let me adress a few other things........
What is with the camera focusing on the band and back up singers so much? Are they in some union that demanded more air time for them? I DON'T CARE to watch the drummer on every beat. I don't need to see the back up singers. If they want to be on camera, then they need to try out for AI and get to the top 24 like the rest of these contestants.
Also, I am so sick of everyone not giving Simon a chance to talk. He is the only judge that is usually right on the mark. I am getting tired of his comparisons. Okay, we get it, the performances are like Six Flags, Hotel, High School Play, and Wedding performances. Stick with the constructive criticism and leave out the comparisons. I did love when the wished his mom a happy birtday. Oh, and I like puppies too!
Lastly, I guess they didn't address the Antonella thing last night because it was the boy's show, but I am so offended that she was there. That girl needs to be taken off of the show. I'm sure they have something in their contracts saying that AI can kick them off for any reason. Even if the rated "X" photos turn out not to be her, the rated "PG-13" ones are enough for me to think that she needs to go.
