I like in that article how she says that she was like the mother to Blake and Jordin and she's happy to see them succeed.

Melinda, to me, is a class act. A great singer and seemingly a great person...which makes me even more upset that she's not still in this thing .

I guess I listen to stuff that doesn't get a lot of radio spins....

Well, since my radio stations play the same stuff over and over and over and over .......... there's still a lot left to listen to!

I despise radio.

The "classic rock" stations are the worst. They've been playing the same stuff over and over and over for 30 years so it's even more nauseating!

I agree that she is a very classy lady. Hard to believe she is only 4 years older than Blake!

Someone will sign her quickly, and it very well might be Simon!

Geez, that has me all teary. What a terrific person she is. I felt that she exuded class from the get go, and that article just proves it even further.

She absolutely is a class act. She will go far with her career.

Funny thing, when DD was listening to her Whitney song, she was perplexed, saying Melinda sings better than this. We thought we heard several notes that were "pitchy", so out of character for her.

I don't know if she did it subconsciously or not, but did she not try quite as hard this week? Even her styling was back to the old hunchback look. For the past weeks, she has had some great hairstyles that gave her a sense of a slim neck and looked great. But DH mentioned in her last song - look, she has no neck again.

Anyway, she is definitely better off now. She is a household name, is sure to get a recording contract AND does not have to sing some lame song that won an Idol songwriting contest for her first song as an American Idol. What a way to put a dent in the class act she has exhuded all season.

I can definitely see why she would be relieved.

As for her popularity - I thought it cute that my grandson, 9, was devastated that she was voted off and made me promise to buy him her CD when she cuts it. And he usually follows his older brother's tastes in rock. But he was mesmerized by her voice all season

I've watched AI since the beginning but haven't bought many CD's as they aren't the type of music that I listen to.

I've bought:

Constantine Maroulis - Pray for the Soul of Betty and will buy his solo CD when it comes out this summer
Daughtry
Bucky Covington - I'm not a country person, I've only listened to it once but I felt the need to support Bucky since I voted for him last year. I still love his voice even though he's singing country music.

I have downloaded to my IPOD these AI performances:

The last song Jordin sang the other night

Those are the only AI CDs I own - that was the season that got me into this whole mess. That's the only tour I saw, too.

Oh, I saw Taylor on his solo tour, too.

Season 5 girl through and through! Maybe Blake or Melinda will turn me around with their releases. I know Jordin's will be too poppy for me.

The only Idol CD I own is one of Kelly Clarkson's - the only season I didn't watch!

I did download a few of Taylor's songs, but they are just horrible. I'm looking forward to him getting out from under the AI restraints - that boy was meant to sing the blues, not the crappy songs they gave him to sing from that album.

My kids love Daughtry and have downloaded a couple of his songs to their Ipods. I like him too, but not enough to spend money on buying his music.

I appologize if this has been said already, but I think what contributed to dooming Melinda is that some people sat back with the "she's a shoe-in for sure. Even Simon likes her!" and weren't so avid about "needing" to vote for her. Meanwhile Blake's and Jordin's fans weren't quite so sure, so they voted as much as possible, knowing that every vote counts. Anyone else think this had anything to do with it?

Yup its happened before. In season 3 Laytoya London who had an incredible voice was eliminated before, Jasmine Trias. or Diana Degarmo

I think everyone looks for something different in being the "American Idol"...What their definition of American Idol.... is it the best singer, is it a performer, is it a pop-type singer, do looks matter, do people vote on that week only or do they look at the history of that singer.

I think it is a performer, which is why I wasn't sad to see Melinda go... that being said she was by far the best singer. I want someone to entertain me, she didn't, and she sounded the same week after week. I think she will have an amazing career because she can SING... boy can she sing, but she is not what I would consider the best American Idol.

I loved Chris last season but he didn't seem like an American Idol because he was too edgy And Ace was the only reason I brought my girls to see the concert because in that case looks matter not the best singer but my was he nice to look at.

So many say it is a singing competition but I think the whole package matters.

That's exactly what I think happened. Blake's and Jordin's fans were voting overtime to get them the 2nd spot in the finals. Everyone assumed Melinda would have a spot.

Well, I really do hope she has a very successful career. I look forward to seeing her come into her own as a solo artist.
