American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread Part 3

I have NEVER bought an AI singers' CD ...thats right NEVER...

None of the music has been close enough to my genre that I enjoy...Sure, I'll jam out to Kelly Clarkson's "Since you've been gone" if its on the radio.
I guess I'm more into bands/alternative/emo stuff??? Fountains of Wayne, Ben Folds, Ben Kweller, Amy Winehouse etc.... I guess I listen to stuff that doesn't get a lot of radio spins....:snooty:

I own 2. Rubeuns 1st cd and Carrie's...I have alot of the MP#'s from Tatlors season of Taylor.

I hope you don't mind I've emailed that pic to DH at work who is the picture of thats in the frame?

I appologize if this has been said already, but I think what contributed to dooming Melinda is that some people sat back with the "she's a shoe-in for sure. Even Simon likes her!" and weren't so avid about "needing" to vote for her. Meanwhile Blake's and Jordin's fans weren't quite so sure, so they voted as much as possible, knowing that every vote counts. Anyone else think this had anything to do with it?

I think that's exactly what happened. I know that's what I did. I wanted Melinda & Blake in the finals, with Melinda winning. I figured Melinda would have no problem, so I threw most of my votes at Blake.

As far as the theories as to why Melinda went home, I think that Melinda said it herself in an interview she had -- her audience tended to skew older and they don't sit and vote for two/three hours straight and they certainly don't text. I'm sure that some of it has to do with the fact that some thought she was safe, but I definitely think the voting demographic has something to do with it.

Sure, this plays into why some of you think Melinda shouldn't be Idol - skews too old, looks too old - but I guess that's your definition of what an Idol is. I loved watching Melinda perform (I think she came out of her shell on Tuesday and then she really came out of her shell on Wednesday after she was voted off) and I loved listening to her sing.

I really enjoy Melinda as well and look forward to her CD (as I'm sure there will be one.)

I just watched Melinda's exit interview on AI Extra. She did admit that she forgot her words in her third performance Tuesday night.
She really seemed genuine in her interview.

I think we all forgave her because she had more words in that one line she messed than in Blake's entire Roxanne song!;)

Honestly, I didn't even notice it. She did say that she concentrated on practicing the other two songs in preparation since they were new songs to her. She said that since she had performed the third song before, she wasn't really concentrating on it. She said that was probably why she messed up.
She definitely is a wonderful singer. I will miss her. I was really impressed with her interview. She seemed so down to earth and genuine.

but I guess that's your definition of what an Idol is.
Well, in terms of AI, its a matter of what the industry considers an Idol. Melinda didn't fit the bill as well, according to that definition, either.

Apparently the information about Blake handing out demo tapes of his comedy material is true. On THE VIEW today, Elisabeth (a HUGE Blake fan) mentioned that she had received an e-mail from Blake thanking her for her support. Kathy Griffin, who was guest co-host, said she had met Blake recently and he had given her a copy of his comedy tape.

Kathy Griffin has been known to spread rumors herself, so i don't really believe anything that comes out of her mouth.

Elizabeth is a Blake fan?? oh man.....sorry Blake....:sad2:

I really dont have a favorite genre of music. I would say as I age I listen to more country music. I have always loved George Strait he is my all time favorite. I have seen him in concert 6 or 7 times and own all 30 of his cds. Growing up my favorite was New Edition but they started going downhill when Bobby left and Johnny joined. I love rap. Kool Moe Dee, Whodini, Kwame and now Eminem and of course LL and Will Smith. I know its strange just yesterday I was listening to Run DMC and 5 minutes later I was listening to Alabama.....:confused3 .....my favorite kind of song is a ballad, slow love song. I am a sap I guess wife says I am a romantic. I guess thats why I liked Ruebun so much. I also enjoy the 80's hair bands. I think the only music I am not a real fan of is Hard head banging music. Although I did like Metallica. I guess what it boils down too is I just like a good song. not what everyone else thinks is a good song but what I think is a good song. is that clear as mud for ya. :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

see i'm the headbanging chick who can't stand any kind of slow songs or country. i'm all about Tool, Metallica, System of A Down...all those bands. and i'm sure you're thinking "Why the heck does she watch Idol, then?" cuz....i wonder it myself, sometimes, too lol. honestly....last season i watched purely because i thought Ace was hott. then he left, and i didn't really watch the show anymore that season. yeah i thought he had a good voice, but i knew he wouldn't win. he impressed me more when he went on tour with the Idols and when he did his own shows, because he did actually sing more rock. i only watch this season because DH2B likes Idol and the only one who doesn't put me to sleep is Blake. and i never even really thought he was THAT cute, he's a good-looking guy(MUCH better with the dark hair) but he's no Ace. although, he is the best looking one on Idol this season, i'll give him that.

Another NON PRETEEN who likes Blake... in fact I could be the GRANDMA of a preteener!!:lmao:

I know, I'm sick of saying this but I like to be entertained. I like people who are a bit different or quirky and I can recognize the minute I hear them. I have a degree in theatre and cringe at the sound of the typical "singer"... anyone with enough money to study enough can be a "singer"... but can you entertain????

I also like people who touch me. I don't know what some of the posters were talking about the "arrogance" or "stuck up" qualities of Jordin and Blake... :confused3 Huh??? I don't see a DROP of it.

I saw it in "I'd rather DIE before I smile and enjoy myself bop up and down and slap my hip Carrie UnderWOOD"

And I also saw it in ShortBald and Surly... one of the least friendly looking and surly people ever on Idol. I did like his voice but I couldn't stand his attitude. Never liked "bad boys" like most girls do. I'm the BAD girl...:rotfl:

I LOVED Melinda, she was sweet and humble and wonderful. My only "problem" with her... and sorry, I can't forget it... was during the "dedication" song. She dedicated her song to her STYLISTS????? WTH?? And they obviously needed to be FIRED! Sorry, I'm a chump when it comes to family and I loved how Jordin and Blake were with their families. So what her Dad was a football player  ,does that dictate the fact that she can sing????

Man... it's way to early for me to be so ON but I just read the past few pages and it seems AGAIN like sour grapes. We all have our druthers and our opinions and we will, like every year, agree to DISagree. :thumbsup2

i'm so glad i wasn't the only one who caught that because i say the same thing, about his attitude, and people are always saying "OMG WHAT!? HE LIKE....TOTALLY DIDN'T HAVE AN ATTITUDE!" yeah......that's why he was completely shocked when he lost. did you see any other finalist look that confused that they lost?? no, because none of them think "i've totally got this in the bag" he was the only one.

i mentioned that the other day, why i didn't like him, and i said "he had that attitude of 'i'm better than you'" and my boss says "WELL HE WAS!" no he wasn't! Katherine was the best singer that season, hands down.

Mark this day down in history because I agree with Bicker! ;)

Melinda is pretty darn near a flawless singer. I will readily admit that. But that's not all it takes to make it out there as a singer.

Many of the hugely popular recording artists right now are far from perfect singers. We saw this year and last that some of the mentors that AI had on hit quite a few clunkers themselves singing live. Maroon 5 last night, hugely successful - but if Adam Levine was on American Idol and sang like he did last night, he would be gone. To channel Randy "It was pitchy dawg!" :rotfl:

DW Lauri and I are far from teeny boppers - both of us are 40. The only votes we have called in this season have been for Blake. Bon Jovi night and final 4 night. Sure he's not a perfect singer like Melinda but we enjoy his voice and are amazed at what creativity he shows in a very small amount of time that he has to get ready each week.

I can't even think of any recording artists that Lauri and I really like that I would call perfect singers (like Celine, etc) Heck, Lauri's favorite band is The Clash - ever listened to Joe Strummer? (RIP)

that's the second time i've heard Maroon 5 sing that song live, and both times it sounded horrible. and i LOVE the album version of the song, i really do.
