American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

OMG, when Ryan was talking to Bucky after he sang I turned to DH and asked "What the heck did he just say??" Poor DH looked crestfallen and said "I guess we've lived here too long becuase I actually understood everything he just said."

It didn't look like Seacrest did though!

All of this talk about dental work. Not everyone can afford the dentist so maybe give the guys a break! Maybe after this, they will be able to.

Ace... Can he sing? Who cares?!!! ;) Seriously, he is one gorgeous guy and I think he has a pretty good voice too.

I also liked Chris and Taylor. Both are really good IMO. Bucky has a decent voice but pushes too hard I think. Will looks like a teen idol type. Elliott has a nice voice but he is rather odd somehow. Gedeon wasn't all that impressive vocally but that darn song was on my mind for a while.

All in all, a fun group IMO. I think that Bobby should go home and otherwise, I don't know.

Wow-I had some sweet dreams last night.
Let's just say they involved Chris and Ace.

Chris makes me melt and Ace can be this 38 year olds daddy anyday!

They got my votes last night. Taylor was 3rd for me.
Go boys!

I think Sway did a good job. It wasn't perfect, but he sang an extremely difficult song from a technical standpoint. I hope he gets a second chance to sing something else and "sway" voters his way.

That being said...Taylor is the MAN! But, I think Chris had the best performance of the night.

I do have to agree with this. I think the word he used last night that got me was "learnt". The boy is definitely backwoods country. In his profile, his say that if he cuoldn't sing, he'd like his other talent to be "racing". I can so see him singing the National Anthem at Talladega.

:lmao: Trust me...Rockingham IS backwoods country!!!!! The girls in the audience...TOTAL Rockingham girls! I said that last night and my husband was :rotfl: :rotfl:

My whole family talks like Bucky so I'm used to it...but it is annoying. Thankfully I learned how to control my accent. My dad says I sound like my yankee husband :teeth: I take that as a compliment :)

Anybody think Elliot reminded them of Jim Neighbors (Gomer Pyle?) He sings kind of out of the side of his mouth like Neighbors did. And Neighbors was another one that had a great voice, but was hard to watch while singing.

Gee Golly, Sargeant, but I thought he was good.

I've been laughing all morning reading everyone's posts :rotfl2:

Ok, my rundown on last night:

Patrick - ok, but I don't like him.

David - HORRIBLE!! :crazy2: GOING HOME TONIGHT!!

Bucky - he was just ok, hopefully his vocal will get better but I'm afraid he won't make it far because of his looks.

Will - my DS(9) liked him because he was from Texas so he got 9 votes last night.

Sway - I didn't get it like the judges did - oh well!!

Chris - GREAT song choice :thumbsup2 - REALLY GOOD, got a lot of votes from us last night.

Kevin - he was just ok but I liked all the girls pinching his cheeks.

Gedoen - did nothing for me.

Elliott - Not really sure about him yet.

Bobby - HORRIBLE :scared: - GOING HOME TONIGHT!!

Ace - I turned my nose up when I heard his song choice, George Michael is NOT one of my favorites but you know what - Ace can sing and he did really well :thumbsup2 - lots of votes last night from us.

Taylor - just something about him that doesn't sit well with me, don't know what though - he was just ok.

And to the person who asked if Ace is really that nice (when he thanked the backup singers) - from the people that know him around here - absolutely. He went to our high school, so he is pretty well known amongst the female population. (who would have guessed :) ) Anyway, he is genuine, humble, modest and has absolutely no airs about him. And so are their parents. Wonderful family.
That's it, I'm sold. ;)

Which is the younger brother? Ace or the audience guy?

I didn't realize there were so many from NC.

Chris could use some dental work, but he's a good singer.

NC is very lucky to have such wonderful talents. First Clay, then Fantasia, now Chris, with Kellie, Heather, and Bucky following behind him.

Most of this has been said.... but here's my opinion anyway :teeth:

Going to the TOP 12 (in alphabetical order):
Ace- no need for explanations :rotfl:
Chris- This guy is great :thumbsup2
Elliot- not necessarilly my favorite, but the Judges really like him :scratchin
Taylor- Unique and entertaining. He'l be around awhile... though I really think he needs to spend some time with a stylist. Ther gray hair itself wouldn't bother me if it was cut in a more updated style. :goodvibes

Need to GO HOME ASAP (in alphabetical order):
Bobby- Lounge Singer :lmao: He's completely out of his league!
Gedeon- Too much Ego. Not enough talent. I have to agree with Simon about the scary smile :scared: Just no "likeability factor"!
Kevin- A sweet kid... just waaaaaaaaaaay out of his league. He's not ready for this competition. He's just not marketable as a pop star. I'd like to see him in about five years when he grows into his voice. Unlike the "young girls" he just doesn't seem ready for the adult music world. :duck:
Sway- What can I say? I really flat out HATED this performance! :headache:

Dukeing it out for the last two spots in the TOP 12 (in alphabetical order):
Bucky- While I personally thought his performance last night was pretty awful, I think if he sings a country song next week there will be a place for him in the TOP 12. :thumbsup2 Chris will out sing him in the Rock genre any day, if he can pull off country he may have a shot.
David- He was trying too hard last night and needs to get over his nerves. Unlike Kevin, he has "teenybopper sex appeal" and will be a big hit with the preteen/teen girl market. He or Will will probably make it to the TOP12. :goodvibes
Patrick-Bad song choice last night. Has a good sense of humor. He tried to "sing outside the box" and it backfired on him. I'd like to see him sing another week to see what else he can do. :thumbsup2
Will- Like David, he's got that teenybopper thing going for him. He or David have a good chance of making it to the TOP 12, but I don't think both of them will get there. :goodvibes

I'm not going to run through all the girls... since that seems like old news :teeth: , but I would like to see Stevie stick around another week. While her performance was dreadful this week, I'd like to see what she could do with a different song and hope she gets one more chance. There's just something likeable about her.

Which guy was the one who looked like one of the Brady boys? Someone made a reference to the Brady Bunch last night (Paula?)--DH & I busted out laughing because we'd just been saying the same thing about him. :rotfl: I don't know if I'd be able to get past that aspect unless he cut his hair to some other style!

It does seem like the judges are pulling out their standard phrases though. You know Paula didn't like the performance much if she starts talking about their clothes. :rotfl:

I'm tired of the dawg pound thing. Very tired of it. And now the kitty pound? Yikes. :crazy2:

I agree with you about Sway. He needs another chance. The boy can sing! :thumbsup2

It was Will, the 16 year old from Texas who sang the Michael Jackson song.

Oh yah! :smokin: I wonder how old he is in this pic? I don't mind the gray hair though - it gives him a cool look IMO.

But you know the way he moves when he sings? Kinda makes me wonder if he moves that way...uhhh..in other areas of his life? ;) :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

OK - I know this is a family board - but certain activities with this guy just might be dangerous! :rotfl2:
Yum! He kind of reminds me of "Elaine" in Seinfeld, the way she danced?! :rotfl: But, hey I still like him.....

Thank you. :) I can't keep all the names straight when they're at this stage of the competition!

Taylor, Chris, Elliot, Ace-In that order for me. I'm just not completely sold on Ace just yet, :scratchin: he does look nice though.

Ok, I don't think it's the teeth with Elliot that throws him off and I can't believe no one else has mentioned this, but I think it's the ears. They are somewhat...elfish.

Chris-He has affectionately been nicknamed "Mini-Vin" in our house, mmmmm, he can sing, he has the "it" factor, and he's just easy on the eyes!!

Taylor is, to me, the best of the bunch. The "movements" were controlled last night and I loved the song he did and would buy it today if I could. I think that win or lose on AI, he's going to get a contract, at least I hope!!

As for the rest, I think they were pretty much forgettable. I would like to hear Sway sing something in a normal voice, so I hope he doesn't go home tonight.

That's it! I've been trying to figure out why it seemed so familiar. :rotfl:

Yep, I commented on those ears last night too, although he has teeth issues as well.
Not nice I know... sorry :guilty:

Ace, Chris and Taylor were my favorites last night

Elliott was good, I just have a hard time getting past the looks thing.
That's my problem with Kevin as well.

I really think there are some quirky looking guys in the final 12 this year and I admit it... I want eye candy to go along with the voice.
Go ahead, call me superficial... I can take it. :teeth:

I'd like to see Bucky, Patrick, and David back even though I didn't much care for any of their performances last night.

I think Sway has talent, but that falsetto thing last night actually hurt my ears.

Not sure what to think about Will...

Gedeon and Bobby I just didn't "get" either of their performances last night and not sure if they would improve over time or not?
