American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

Well how about a overall performance from the 2 nights

1. Taylor
2. Chris
3. Lisa
4. Paris
5. Katherine
6. Elliott
7. Ace
8. Mandissa
9. ayla
10. kellie
11. wil
12 gedeon
13 bucky
14 david
15 patrick
16 kevin
17 melissa
18 brenna
19 heather
20 kinnik
21 becky
22 bobby
23 sway
24 stevie

I think its still anyones race but the top 4 if they outperform next week will distance themselves from the pack....Ace and Kellie will of course get alot of votes and probably knock one of the top 4 out unfortunately....Also after the 2 nights Ayla, mandissa and Katherine moved up my list...I am a fan of Kellie but have to be honest she is not the best singer...I have enjoyed it so far though

Anyways I think the bottom 2 guys are definitely Sway and a tossup between Patrick, Bucky, Gideon and Bobby, but I would have to say Bobby because he was pretty boring.

Bobby was boring???????????????

I'm sorry, but Bobby was the opposite of boring! I could not stop myself from laughing while he was performing.

Oh yah! :smokin: I wonder how old he is in this pic? I don't mind the gray hair though - it gives him a cool look IMO.

But you know the way he moves when he sings? Kinda makes me wonder if he moves that way...uhhh..in other areas of his life? ;) :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

OK - I know this is a family board - but certain activities with this guy just might be dangerous! :rotfl2:

well I havent thought about it...being a guy and not one of Paulas friends...I will ask my wife.... :rotfl2:

Taylor. :faint:

That's all I can say about him.

I can't help but compare Ace to Constantine; however, I think Ace doesn't have the charisma. He is a pretty boy though.

Poor Bobby--as soon as I heard his song choice, I knew it was all over for him. My guess is, he knew it too, so he made sure he fulfilled his promise to his grandmother by singing the song. He knew there wouldn't be another chance. :(

First post on this thread, but I just LOVE AI.

Taylor is the man. Best male voice in the show this year, IMO. I can really see him going all the way if he keeps it up. He's just really fresh and unique.

Ace..... what can I say about Ace that hasn't already been said?
He will be a star before it's over, and not by winning the competition either.

Really loved Chris's performance.

I def think Bobby is going tommorrow night. Just didn't like his performance at all. More like a old lounge singer than an American Idol. :confused3

As for the girls, Paris was great and entertaining. Reminded me of Fantasia. But I do think Katharine had a much better vocal. I got chill bumps when she sang. :thumbsup2

Also, the girl that sang the Mulan song was really good.

I agree that the only reason Becky is there is because of her looks. I do think she will stay around for a few more weeks though, if only for the male vote.

I think Stevie or maybe Heather will be going home tommorrow night.

Ace has it all over Constantine...who do you think Randy was referring to in his comments...obvious dig at Constantine. (Sorry I know a lot of you are/were Constantine fans)

Taylor.....well, his picture when he was younger is pretty hot....dangerous season indeed!

WOW! Another good night! The guys really did hold their own against the girls. I will have to change what I said last night and agree with Randy...this is any one to win. But I still think that their are a few that just should not be there.

Well, here is what I thought of tonight's show.

patrick.jpg

PATRICK HALL

When they showed the singing clip from Hollywood, I thought all right we will be starting the show on a high note again. And then Patrick opened his mouth. He defentally did not have the voice to pull of the Melissa Etheridge song. And his comment about ballads being his strong suit worries me. I don't want another guy in the top twelve who can only sing one type of song good and stink at all the rest. Though I think he should have a shot at coming back for another week. I feel that if he doesnt improve then he should go.

david.jpg

DAVID RADFORD

I think he is over his head. I feel that what we saw tonight is something he shows to his friends when he is out having fun. Though I want him to have fun on the stage, he needs to remember that this is a competition, not a party with his friends. I think he has blown his chance, and will be going home tomorrow.

bucky.jpg

BUCKY COVINGTON

Really liked this guy. That voice was not what I was expecting. He is rough around the edges, but I think he will improve as the weeks go on, if given the chance. But when I look at him, I really wish some one would get a hold of his hair. But that is really my only negative. Hope to see him come back next week.

will.jpg

WILL MAKAR

Liked this one as well. His voice does need some work, but you can see what can be. I think he will be coming back next week. But he didn't get my vote.

jose.jpg

JOSE "SWAY" PENALA

I don't think this guy should have made it past Hollywood. The guy that was cut from his group should have made it to the next round, not Sway. Though he did a good job tonight. I really hope he will not be coming back next week.

chris.jpg

CHRIS DAUGHTRY

LOVE THIS GUY!! He along with one other were the only one who got my vote tonight. I have liked this guy since his first audition. I am glad that I had a hard time getting though tonight to give him my votes. But it was not as hard as it was for the other guy. Truly hope he will be one of the final six guys.

kevin.jpg

KEVIN COVAIS

What a cute little guy. And I really don't think he did to bad of a job. But should he make it to the final six...No. But I do think he should come back next week. And I'm sure he already has a small fan base who will be more than happy to vote for him.

gedeon.jpg

GEDEON McKINNEY

I'm all for believing in ones self. But I was not as impressed with Gedeon as he was with himself. Does he have potitional, sure. But I am still on the fence with him. I have a felling that he will be there next week, so we will just have to see how he does then.

elliott.jpg

ELLIOTT YAMIN

First my pet peeve: He sings with gum in his mouth. He has had gum in his mouth every time I have seen him sing. That bugs me to no end!

As for tonight. Was he good? Yes. Did he get my vote? No. Tonight I felt like I was in a Karaoke bar and seeing him on the stage in that bar. But I'm sure he is one that we will be seeing next week. I just hope he takes the gum out before he goes on stage. (Doubt it will happen...but one can hope.)

bobby.jpg

BOBBY BENNETT

From the way the judges were talking I don't think we saw him at his best. Was he entertaining? Yes. But I don't think he was good enough to make it to next week. I think he is another one who blew it.

ace.jpg

ACE YOUNG

He's good looking and has a good voice. I am sure he will be back next week. But I truly hope that it his voice not his looks that gets him though the next rounds.

taylor.jpg

TAYLOR HICKS

Now I was worried about him, seeing how I haven't really heard him sing anything. It has just been sound bites. I was really surprised at how much I liked him, and from how hard it was to get in to vote for him I am not the only one. I really look forward to seeing him perform next week. I am sure it will be just as good if not better. What a great way to end the show tonight.

Who I think should be going home:
David Radford
Bobby Bennett

My favs of the night:
Chris Daughtry
Taylor Hicks

Man, I soooo enjoyed last night. So much fun!

Before last night my faves were Ace and Taylor, Taylor and Ace. :cool1: Now it's STILL Ace and Taylor but I had to add Chris and David.

Yikes did anyone see Ace's BROTHER out in the audience???? Man, what was it like being neighbors to those guys???

Bobby and Bucky made me change the channel... ugh...:crazy2:

The "boy babies", Kevin and Will, though not as good as the "girl babies", Lisa and Paris, are just aDORable. :cutie:

Sway sang my all time favorite song, and I think he butchered it. Sorry, NO ONE can do Philip Bailey but Philip Bailey.... :worship:

Gideon's ego AND, like Simon said, his SMILE :teeth: , bothers me. He is just so UNlikeable that even the best performance can't sway me from that.

Elliott was good but not as good as Simon said... and he USUALLY echoes my thoughts! But then again, he liked Carrie... :crazy2:

Not a huge Idol fan, but did watch last night.

David Radford was just horrendous. Who would buy anything that guy did?

Bobby Bennet was awful too. He doesn't have a good voice at all.

Chris Daugherty I liked, simply because I like rock music. He has a good stage presence.

Kevin Covais - Sorry to the girls that think he's cute as a button, but his performance, just as Simon said, was painful to listen to.

Gedeon - I agreed with Simon. Never been to a Chippendales, but I could definitely see his performance as an opening to a night at a male strip club.

Ace Young - I'm embarassed to say this because I know he's the girls favorite, but I liked him alot. Personally, I thought he was the best last night. He owned that song.

Taylor Hicks - If that guy's only 29, I'm Santa Claus. I respect him for his love of music, and he's talented, but he couldn't be more annoying if he tried.

As for the girls - I couldn't judge much. I couldn't stop thinking about Becky.

Plain and simple....wow. (Been a looong time since that's popped into my head.)

Does Bobby Bennett remind anyone else of Jackie Gleason?

I am still reeling over the Elliott comment...but Simon is back in character...Barry Manilow is spinning in his grave.

LOL! I told my husband the same thing last night! I have to say I actually liked him a lot for entertainment value, but he is not even close to American Idol material. I can see him singing in a Vegas lounge (and I wouldn't mind seeing him there)!

Well after a slow start, this night really got HOT. I had to open the windows to cool down.

Patrick: He started out a bit on the weak side with a song that really did nothing to showcase his voice. And while I don’t like to critique appearances, he really needs to lose the mustache and get spruced up a bit. He gets a 6

David: He seemed the most nervous of all the guys and it effected his voice and he has a voice! Worked the stage well and if he can get his nerves under control, he’ll be around for quite a while. A 7 for David.

Bucky: We came close to hitting mute for this guy and I felt like I was in an alternative universe. While the judges were saying how good he was, my DH and I were going, HUH? To quote Simon, just a mess. I’m sure he’s a nice guy but he gets the low score of the night. 2

Will: At last, a fun performance. He presented with no nerves, great tone and a super stage presence. With a different song choice he would have gotten another point. I gave him a 8.

Sway: Nearly an entire song in falsetto just didn’t do it for me. We did see a few moments of nice tone though. His stage work was a bit on the strange side for my taste so he gets a 5.

Chris: Somewhere during his performance I think I fainted. Be still my heart!! He did Bon Jovi proud. I do believe that men all over the USA will be shaving their heads. Great delivery, super song choice… he just nailed it in every way. And with my first perfect score, Chris gets a 10!!!!

Kevin: I think this kid has the best voice of all the contestants. The only problem I have is that it doesn’t look like it belongs to him. He’s so young and that song needed to be sung by someone a bit more mature to really sell it. With a different song choice, he would have entered the “10 realm” but he gets a 9.

Gedeon: He is the one performer who got through to Hollywood that left me wondering why. I thought his performance last night was better than I expected. It did drag a bit towards the end but all and all it was fun. He gets a 7.

Elliott: Once again, sorry to make this about looks but he’s another one that needs a make over. Looks aside, he has an awesome voice and works the stage well. Elliott gets an 8.

Bobby: Besides looking sharp, the rest was just dreadful. I’m 99% sure he will be leaving tonight. He gets a 3.

Ace: You can be my daddy. Lordy. This guy is so hot I’m surprised my TV didn’t explode. Made me wish I was 30 years younger. He had the best delivery of the night and a super voice to boot. Yup, you guessed it, Ace gets another 10!!!

Taylor: Just so much fun to watch. I wasn’t thrilled with his song choice but he did a wonderful job with it. I was still hyperventilating from Ace so I may have missed a few notes here and there. Over the long run, I think Taylor will be the guy to beat. He gets a 9.

I voted for Chris, Kevin, Elliott, Ace and Taylor. I think Bucky and Bobby will be leaving us tonight.

His parents looked to be in their 50's last night. :confused3 I started getting gray hair when I was 18. My colorist is a goddess. :worship:

Yeah, I noticed that too. It's not the gray though. I'm 29 and have gray in my beard. He just doesn't look 29.

I don't know what the soul patrol is but I want to join! Great performance!!!

I'm a member of the "Soul Patrol" and this 57 yo woman started screaming like a teeny bopper when he said that. :rotfl: Go to http://www.idolonfox.com and sign up for the chat boards. You'll find the SP there under season 5 contestants. :teeth:

I watched it three times and laughed through each performance. My husband watched in for 10 second and said, "Jackie Gleason!!!". My son quite enjoyed it. It was very entertaining. Good? dunno, but definitely entertaining!!!

You assume I'm a Constantine fan though. Definitely not--he had that "ick" factor for me. :rotfl: Like I said, Ace is a pretty boy; I'm just not wow'ed by him yet.

I was a Bo fan through & through last season, although I quit watching before the finale. I could see the season going the same way it had gone the previous seasons (although I did not watch season 1, so that one is not included in my opinion): they latch onto the one they want to win & that person wins.

I'm actually seeing a ray of hope this season because the judges haven't latched onto any one person publicly. Maybe they've learned their lesson about announcing their favorites early? One can only hope.
