American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

She has lied.

I don't believe she lied. I think Ryan asked her about her Miss SC title at the local auditions.

I think the AI competition is FAR removed from a talent contest. So, yes, I think she can say she has not done anything like this before.

You have people in the competition that make MONEY with their voice. Look at the girl who was in the Lion King.
That is the level of inexperience she is talking about. Not a local Miss comeptition. IMO.

Anyway, being cute and blonde will get her far. Look at how far Kim Caldwell got, and she COULD NOT SING. Dianna Degarmo, I loved her voice, but not many people did, and many people were surprised at how far she got. (BTW< she should of beat Fantasia). I knew Carrie would make it to the end just by how sweet, innocent and blonde she was. So, all you people who do not like Kellie, hang on, you'll be seeing her week after week.

You guys come on down to Stanly County and take a look at the "Miss Stanly County" Pageant, and then tell me if you think it compares at ALL to AI. During the Hollywood audition I distinctly recall Pickler saying she had never sung with bakcup singers or accompanyment (piano) which could be true. Perhaps they had to sing acapella at the talent show? How would you know The fact of the matter is the final 24 were picked by the judges because they have the superior talent. Maybe you and I don't agree, but you and I don't make the rules, and you and I can vote with our phones next week. Until then let's try to keep it about the singing and not judge their personal lives.

As far as the final 24, the only one I'm on the fence about vocally is Kevin Covais. He CAN sing (I loved his Josh Groban), but he has a pronounced lisp that may hinder him in the end. I think he's adorable, but I'm not sure how far he'll go . Some contacts, highlights and a new haircut will help, but I think the lisp will hurt him vocally.

anyone watching Live with Regis and Kelly? Simon is on and he is hilarious! he was talking about how he thought the twins were repulsive, that he only kept them in to torture them!

I agree!!! That's why I can hardly wait until next week when we get to HEAR them and not deal with the audition circus anymore.

Brenna's personality is the only one that gets to me, but I have to admit that she's got some pipes.

On LIVE Simon mentioned Brenna and her 'atrocious' attitude, but still admitted that he liked her...go figure~! but too agree she can sing.

I agree about season 3 being just plain awful! ughhh...
I'm still a fan of Season 2..do you know if they sell that Season on DVD?
Anyone remember Keith?? "like a virgin" by Madonna during the auditions??

The actual season isn't available on DVD (although there are some features on the Best and Worse of AI DVD set that's out - I wouldn't waste money on it though, from what I've heard).

HOWEVER, it was recently reported that the first two seasons of AI are going to be shown on....I think, FX? Some channel. Anyways, basically like sydnication beginning in the fall. I don't know how much they'll show from auditions and stuff, but I've heard they're reworking the footage from the first two seasons to reair. :confused3

(Obviously, I'm just in it to revisit Clay's transformation. )

fantasmic303--> thanks for that! ahh i loved at the last show when Clay sang Bridge Over Troubled Water!!

Kellie Pickler is a liar. Enough said. Her dad is in jail for stabbing someone and hitting a police car, as well as drug use.

And furthermore, one other contestant --Heather Cox mentions in her idolonfox bio regarding the most challenging thing in life was overcoming the domestic abuse her mother had to endure. Heather Cox was there, and saw it. But of course, you don't hear her crying the blues about it!

Of course she would know what "keys" are if she was in a talent competition--they aren't only on cars. I'm from a small town and know about pageants and competitions too. Even our little rural Miss Farm Fair 4H competiton was accompanied by piano and we talked about singing in "key".

Big fat lies!

WOW! I am so disappointed in the way this thread is turning out, will it be closed THIS year too? Come on people, lets start focusing on the contestants' singing and performance ability. Has Kelly Pickler lied? I really don't know, and neither do you. To say you don't think someone is good or you don't think they should win the contest is one thing, but this is getting a little ridiculous, don't you think?

There are definitely a lot of guys that I love this year. I'm in love with the three 16 year old boys, David (the next John Stevens!), Kevin and Will. And I love Taylor (the gray haired guy) and Chris (bald rocker dude). My mother is in love with Ace like everyone else. I haven't heard him sing that much, but from what I've heard, he's really good too.

David is from my neighborhood. There was a story yesterday about him.
He suppose to star in his high school play in March or April. But they have a understudy set up.

Thank you!!! I was just thinking the same thing! It is a television show people and it has barely even started! Why get so bent out of shape over it? I couldn't care less about their bios or personal lives at this point. Heck, the top 12 haven't even been chosen yet and this thread is already turning ugly! Backing away slowly...

.by the way they got the wrong winner in season 1...I cant remember her name right now but the black girl that finished in 3rd was the best singer that year,

Nikki McKibbin was a black girl?

In AI's first of many "shocking" eliminations, Nikki McKibbin outlasted Tamyra Gray (the favorite to win at the time) who got 4th place. IMO, Kelly deserved to win that season and deserves the fame she has now received.

Also, about the Kimberly Caldwell bashing, she was my absolute favorite that season (of course, my taste is nothing like anyone elses here, my current favorite is Brenna Gethers!) and her version of "Anymore" is probably one of my top 5 AI2 performances.

Muffycat, are you from Crystal Lake too? :)

My daughter goes to school with David and he is a really nice, down to earth guy.

The woman who cuts my husband's hair also cuts David's hair. She was telling my husband that when David came in recently for a haircut there were some women there that went nuts when they saw him. She also said that he said he would sing for her if she gave him a free haircut. She turned him down. :rotfl2:

In any case, I hope he goes far. :)

..I would like to see a white guy win it this year, not a racist statement by any means i just would like to see it happen....

:confused3 Seriously, what on earth does race or gender have to do with singing talent?

This is American Idol, not Pasty White Guy American Idol.

Right now my top picks are Ace and Kellie Pickler. My only thought though is if they are too much like Bo and Carrie. More in looks though than anything else.

My top picks, too! Also, just about the only names I remember!

One of the girls on the final 24 was previously on a Fear Factor episode and had a pictorial with a sibling in Maxim magazine... I'm sure you could figure out easily which one that is...

I have the links to the maxim *Cough* article *cough* if you want to see it.
