OK, we don't like the way Paula acts? So bring in like a five time drug and alchohol rehabber and anorexic or bulemic, who has stayed with a man who has roughed her up?

This isn't against you. But I can't think of hardly ANYBODY worse than Whitney Houston.[/QUOTE

Dont kill the messenger.....its just a name I heard floating around

I know. That is why I said it wasn't against you. You would agree that if Paula is a bad choice now, then Whitney is a train wreck waiting to happen?

Well, I think all-in-all we had a pretty good show tonight. Their were a few hic-ups in the line up but many shinning moments.

First my favs, and the only one I really care about:

Mandisa - Bravo!!! What a great way to start the show. I think she did a wonderful job. Every week she shows that she can sing, and I hope she will be around for a really long time. But I'm sure she will be, seeing how I was only able to get in 3 times to votes for her.

Bucky - I was not happy with his performance. He really had an off night. I hope he will be able to pick a better song next week. But he still got some of my votes. And seeing how hard it was to get in, I think he will be safe this week.

Chris - I liked him tonight. I agree that it wasn't his best performance. And I think there were other songs he could have chosen from, he still did a good job in my book. He also got my vote tonight, and he was another one that I had some difficulty getting in to place my vote.

Katharine - I think she did a really good job. I think she could record that as a single. And though some of you didn't like her dress. I think because of the dress, we can finally put the prego rumors to rest. It wasn't too hard to get my vote in tonight is was the easiest of the five I was voting for.

Taylor - What a bad song choice! But I still enjoyed the performance. And I think a lot of others did as well. I was only able to get in 2 times tonight to vote for him. So you know he will be safe this week.

Now on to the rest of them.

Paris - I have to agree with some of the others here. I don't really care for this girl. She proved to night is is a one song artist, because that was the same type of song she sang in her first audition, and again in Hollywood. Did she do a good job with it? Yes. But I'm still not that impressed. But I'm sure she will be around for another week.

Lisa - She has a voice, she just not know how to really use it. And tonight was just plan awful! I couldn't put my finger on it. But it seemed like she and the band were doing two different types of songs at the same time. I have a feeling she will be in the bottom three again.

Kevin - Yes, he did a pretty good job this week. But I still hope he will be in the bottom three and go home. There are others on the show that have better voices than him, and should last longer than he does. They should not be sacrificed just so some can imagine themselves pinching his cheeks.

Elliot - I think Barry hit it on the head. He has a voice he just doesn't know how to tell a story with it. He just gets up there and put some words with a melody and calls it singing. I just have not been a fan since the start. But I think he will survive another week.

Kellie - Man, my ears are bleeding!!! And who put on her make-up?? If you had put a long black wig on her, she would of looked like a male impersonator doing Cher. And if anyone is rolling in their grave its Patsy not Johnny. I just do not see what Simon sees in her. She can't sing!

Ace - After last weeks shock of being in the final three. Ace, learned that America is not so in loved with his looks, as he would like them to be. He learned that we actually think he should know how to sing. So this week he brought it, and he wasn't half bad. Did he get my vote? No. But I think he should make it back for another week.

Bottom 3:
Lisa
Kevin
Kelly

With Kevin going home.

But I have a feeling that my guess will not even be close.

I dont totally agree...I actually think Whitney would bring a no nonsense aspect to the show...she wouldnt be lovie dovie over every contestant...now if she is sober and clean for every show that is uncertain....

True that Whitney wouldn't be all over every contestant but she does seem like a problem waiting to happen otherwise. I think that they could probably do better if they need a female singer there.

meant to post last night but time got away from me. First off, Barry looked great. He is an extreme professional and knew what he was doing to help these contestants. My MIL (now passed on) was a HUGE Barry fan, so it just reminded me of her.

Mandisa: I've loved her since day one! She can really sing and she looked totally flattered that Barry spoke to her about "a job if this AI doesn't work out". Looked fantastic and she is a contender for this competition

Bucky: I had read that he was going to do Jailhouse Rock. That would have been a better choice for him or even that Johnny B. Good song that Michael J. Fox sang in Back to the Future.

Paris: She really sang well. I, like others can't stand her personality, but that performance was fantastic.

Katharine: Excellent, excellent, excellent. I loved how she looked in regular street clothes with jeans and a ponytail to meet Barry and work. She was not putting on airs and just sang.

Chris: I like the other poster, had never heard Walk the Line. I have no desire to rent the DVD either. Chris did put a rock spin to it, but it seemed like a somewhat boring song. I love Chris to death but iwt wasn't his best yet.

Taylor: The spoiler that I had read said he was going to wear a blue suit. That got everyone thinking that he was going to sing Blue Suede shoes. Not his best performance, but still solid.

Lisa: I don't know why I can never remember Lisa. I never knew how difficult that song was (I guess I hear it butchered too much ) and I did note the key changes. She was technically very good, but not WOW!

Kevin: I thought this was the first time in WEEKS where Kevin was passable. I know his Josh Grobin style got him in the competition so that has something to do with it. I knew there was a voice hiding in there and it showed yesterday.

Elliott: I love Elliot. That was a very very very hard song to sing. Its extremely complicated with tempo and changes. He really soaked up Barrys advice and did well. I do like Elliot.

Kellie: Even the Hickler wasn't bad either. I thought for sure she was going to do Stand by you Man after all she won her Ms North Carolina or her Charlotte TV competition with that. Anyway, she can sing, but only songs she is comfortable with. Thats not good.

Ace: Ok, Father Figure wasn't a fluke. He can sing, but like Kelly, see above. And this is the first time he was in a button down shirt. If the stylists put him in a suit, I bet you would hear thuds as a collective portion of the US faints at once.

Who will be in the bottom three:

Bucky, Lisa and Kevin (I always put Kevin in there just so he will be gone)

Who will go: Bucky

Last year’s AI was a mixed bag of talent with a threesome (Carrie, Bo, Vonzell) that bordered on professional grade talent. This year there seems to be no doubt on which five are not only hinting they’re on the professional level, they’re already there. Here’s my take on the electrifying (and not so) eleven.

Mandisa: Singing a song I had never heard before, I Don’t Hurt Anymore, she had me hook, line and sinker up until the very end when she got a bit screamy. Still, ANOTHER solid performance. Her average, with my scoring method, is a 9 and that’s consistency week after week.
Mandisa gets a 9 again this week.

Bucky: He attempted to sing Oh Boy by Buddy Holly. He didn’t succeed. While it was an on key presentation, it was just weak as was his interpretation and stage presence. Sorry Bucky but I think it’s time you go.
He get’s a 6.

Paris: She gave us Fever and I’m thinking what could this teen know about a campy, hot love song? Apparently quite a bit. She took it and made it her own in every way. Looking delicious in that screaming yellow dress, pulling the audience in with every note, this girl is just a constant string of surprises.
Paris get’s one of two unexpected 10’s of this week.

Chris: A wicked cool adaptation of what could have been a pretty boring song. Chris warped Walk the Line into something I actually liked better than the original. He lost me at the end when he tried to rock it out. I found that to be a bit overboard. I like Chris but will continue to say he needs mega work on his stage presence. Again this week he looked upset while he’s singing. Still, he gets props for a great arrangement of this classic song.
Chris gets an 8.

Katharine: I know this is a singing competition but …. If you’re going open your mouth and insert your foot on live TV you will get criticized. I found her pre performance interview to be witchy with a B. The song Come Rain or Come Shine was pitchy, a shock coming from the contestant with possibly the best control. Her presence on stage last night was forced. She was acting a part and it just wasn’t working for me.
I could go on about her just not connecting with the audience in this house but let’s let it drop. I gave her a 6 and most of that was for finally picking a fairly good looking outfit.

Taylor: Taylor is one I wish would be more consistent. A five note song is not the way to showcase his great voice. Still (and yeah Simon, you’re right, it’s not a dancing contest) he was so much fun to watch. We were cracking up laughing here.
He gets an 8 but it could have been much higher with a better choice of songs.

Lisa: She did Why Do Fools Fall in Love. Another poor song choice from Lisa. Most of the song seemed to be too low for her range and, like Katharine, her performance seems forced and unnatural. Lisa is on my list of those who may have their ticket home this week.
I gave her a 4.

Kevin: Kevin has been pretty much zapped by some good coaching. He’s still got a way to go but his presentation of When I Fall In Love had me melting. A perfect choice for him, this was most likely his best performance to date.
He’ll probably get yanked off the VFTW website after last night and that’s a good thing. I gave him an 8.

Elliott: Oh dear. Out of tune, no rhythm, I felt like I was in another dimension as I heard the judges raving about his performance. I thought it was horrific. He attempted to sing Teach Me Tonight. I wish I could say I’d never heard it before but I grew up listening to that song. He butchered it.
Everyone seems to have at least one bad week and Elliott, you’ve used your’s up. He gets the lowest score of the night with a 3.

Kellie: Will the real Kellie please stand up! If last night was the real you, I’m a fan all the way. Absolutely nailing Walking After Midnight, her version was both sexy and fun. She just completely controlled the stage.
Capturing the other 10 of the night, there is more to Kellie than her lack of knowledge about calamari.

Ace A weak start to In the Still of the Night finally gave way to some pleasant melody by the middle. He just isn’t doing it for me and I found my mind wandering to housework chores I have to do tomorrow. I keep hoping for a repeat of Father Figure but it hasn’t happened again and by this point in the competition, I’m thinking it probably won’t.
Ace gets a 7 for an OK but not inspiring performance.

Who I voted for from the most on down.

Paris
Kellie
Mandisa
Taylor
Kevin

Who I think may go home this week:
Bucky
Lisa

As always… JMHO!

ETA: Just got thru reading all the comments from last night. Add me to the list of those who didn't realize that Chris' version of Walk the Line WASN'T his version after all. Disappointing to say the least.

I had just checked and wasn't and then checked and ws. :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: And as soon as my lines for voting were cut off they had their predictions up. They only have 2 highlighted...are they only going to call out hte bottom 2 this week? Or is that because with the margin of error those could be the one going home? :confused3

now dialidol only has one person highlighted to go home, and i am NOT happy about it!!!

I liked Chris regardless...it's funny how everyone is doing exactly what he is in terms of "covering" but because he didn't speak up at the end and say "oh no judges, I was covering Live" he gets downed!! No matter.....whether he is original or not the boy can sing...can't say the same for Kevin....I just don't think he can sing at all....

I can tell you why I'm disappointed and falling off the "Chris for American Idol" train.. and I have been a huge fan since day one. It's not the fact that he may be covering other bands/artists. I know that performers do that all the time.

BUT

To contradict what you said here -

but because he didn't speak up at the end and say "oh no judges, I was covering Live" he gets downed!!
-in the beginning of his segment he point blank stated to Barry Manilow that he had redone this Johnny Cash song to make it his own style. Barry even gave him props for that. However, once he starts singing it we find out that it is a copy of the cover "Live" did of that song. And surprise! Live just happens to be one of Chris's favorite bands according to an interview I read about him last week.

That's what ticked me off about Chris. He is standing in front of the judges getting praise for being true to himself and for what a wonderful job he did making that song his own, when in reality he just copied another artists cover of the song. I would have had a lot more respect for him if he had admitted it like he did about doing the RHCP version of Higher Ground. Still would have been turned off a bit because I feel like he is "phoning it in', but I wouldn't have felt "duped".

And sadly, if he does keep this up, he's going to lose fans right and left. I can't tell you how many people I have seen on other forums that have jumped completely off the Chris "Love Train" based on last night. I'm not ready to jump off yet, but I've got my suitcase and ticket in hand. :(

Tiffany?

Damn, I am such a teenage woman, that I even thought of that.

I was actually thinking more along the lines of Debrah Gibson. She has more talent.

We voted for Taylor even though he had an off night. Overall he's still Lauri's favorite. We also threw some votes in for Elliot since he is our "Hometown Boy" *sigh*

Do you think Simon will prefer Jessica or Britney?

I love Whitney, but wouldn't they just be exchanging one drugged up judge for another?

I think Dolly Parton would do a good job as judge.
what a great idea. But do you really think they will let Paula go? I think not.
