American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread**

Kevin please go home!! I really didn't think anyone was fantastic tonight. None could even come close to Stevie Wonder. My choices for tonights best were Chris and Taylor. Losers were Kevin, Ace, and Melissa. Mandisa and the rest were only so so for me. While Mandisa sings nicely she is still not Idol material.

I agree. I can't tell at this point if he's just joking or he really thinks he's all that. Either way, I can't stand him.

One thing that bothers me is when contestants don't take criticism well, as Kevin didn't with Simon last night.

Hey Kev - Got some news for ya bud - Simon IS the show. Without him, you'd be less than nothing!

I agree. He was really flip with Simon. I think all this has gone to his head and that he really thinks he's all that. He's in for a rude awakening! :rotfl2:

kevin acted like a real jerk last night with those uncalled for comments of his.

it showed his arrogance and age.

some weeks back they panned the audience and showed his mom booing simon for his comments.

like mother...........like son

rudeness and smart aleck comments are not one of the qualties of an american idol

Kevin definitely needs to go. I can't figure out how he got into the final 12 to begin with.

Katharine, Taylor and Chris were good.

Kellie wasn't all that good but she is just so cute you just gotta laugh.

Thats Genius! Its so True!

About Kevin, he is so obviously joking about the sex symbol thing. I rewatched his song and his presong video and the way he says it so is obviously tongue in cheek.

And his talking back to Simon is nothing like what we've seen in the past (I'm sure nobody reembers the greatness that was Juanita in the 4th week of semi-finals back on AI2)

The best ones last night:

Paris- finally she's back! She's a natural performer!
Chris- Always excellent
Taylor- Fun/lively performance!
Katherine- Great job! (didn't like the dress though :confused3 )

Hope Kevin gets the boot tonight! I think American Idol boosted his ego.

I so hope Kevin goes home soon....if this is America's dream of an Idol....I want no part of it!

Chris rocked...I don't care if it was a Chili Peppers rendition, it was still one of the best of the night.

That is what Fantasia used to do too in the first few shows...she was pretty mouthy to Simon...and everyone loved her for it (not me though)

Get Katharine out of those maternity looking clothes.
I wonder if she is preggars, if not, she is playing into the Rumors Hands. :confused3 As far as Kevin and his comments, I don't blame him, Simon can get ON YOUR LAST NERVE, but remember the last person that dissed Simon got booted off. ;) A few seasons ago. Anyway, I voted for Taylor 4 times, Paris twice, Kevin twice, and Chris once. That was it for me, those are the 4 I am going with. :thumbsup2 Don't like Katherine, Kellie, Bucky, or Lisa and Melissa....I think a guy will win this time and it might be between Taylor and Chris. :woohoo: I guess most of you don't like Paris cause of her speaking voice, but hey, thats how she talks, get over it, the girl has PIPES! Mandisa is good too, but she reminds me of Queen Latifah, and only one Queen is enough. ;)

Gedeon: Oh that’s right, Gedeon is gone but, gee, I bet he would have nailed a Stevie Wonder song!

Yeah, I think that this would have been his night to shine. I really would have liked to see him in the final 12 and let Kevin go home.

I didn't like it when Fantasia was mouthy, I didn't like Brenna and I choked when Keven tried it. I don't find it edgy, I just find it abrasive. Must be the Mom in me.

I thought last nights show had few highlights. Taylor and Chris should be the final 2 but who knows what will happen! Althought I have to believe they will both get some type of deal out of this no matter when they go. Love Mandisa too but last night was just OK, waiting for Katherine to break out- as for Ace, Bucky Melissa they are Ok but not really star material, I like Elliott's voice but he will get lost in the crowd, Kellie will get by for a while on her personality, As for the young ones Lisa can sing but has zero personality or charisma kinda boring, Paris can also sing but for some reason I just don't like her too much not sure why, Kevin I think is hilarious he totally is making fun of himself with all the comments and winks and his comment to Simon was funny and many of them have said things much worse to Simon it was not that bad. He should have waited a coiple of years before trying out when he and his voice were more mature.

My review from last night:

Ace - liked him the first week, he has gone downhill from there - just ok.

Kellie - blah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elliott - the guy is talented, he was just ok to me.

Mandisa - really good.

Bucky - I'm a fan of Bucky's - I think he did a good job - he was the first to get the Dawg Pound from Randy last night :thumbsup2 - hope he stays around for another week.

Melissa - no excuse for forgetting the words!! - time to go home.

Lisa - this girl can sing, very good.

Kevin - come one, he should of gone home last week - this is NOT a high school talent show.

Katherine - talented, good.

Taylor - can't deny he's a performer, good.

Paris - I still don't like her.

Chris - no surprise on the song choice, thought he was the best of the night. :woohoo:

Who should go home tonight: KEVIN or MELISSA

As I was watching the show last night, it occured to me that I am going to miss all of the contestants once they're gone (except Kevin, Bye Bye). The line up this year is deep in talent and diversity. They all bring a different quality that I like!

Katharine was my fav last night. Kellie made me cringe but I love her anyway. :teeth: She's in trouble if she can't soften her Southern twang when singing out of her genre. Ouch, that was bad last night.

I found Paris's interview annoying when she kept singing to Ryan. I can't put my finger on why she bothers me so much.

Taylor Hicks reminds me of Steve Martin in The Jerk. He acts like Navin Johnson. (? Wasn't that his name?) Or is it, "Two wild and crazy kinda guys?" Taylor has Steve's moves down pat! :thumbsup2

Simon can be harsh but most of the time he is dead on right. If people think he's bad and a dream squasher they should try auditioning for some music schools. Some of them were great to me and accepted me but one of the ones I really wanted to get into made Simon seem like a doll!

Kevin. Yes the "Sex Symbol" talk was supposed to be tongue in cheek but then again he did seem to believe it too. Was it him that I read on Rueters dumped his girlfriend to gain more votes? It was a legitimate news feed that I get, not a rumor mill. It was just yesterday but before my coffee.

Melissa - no excuse for forgetting the words!! - time to go home.

She does have an excuse, and a valid one. She had a last minute song change. She still should have known her lyrics, but its tough when you change song sin the middle of the week. But I think she made up for her stumble in the 2nd half of her song.

No, I don't like how Paris sings...I really don't think she is that good..I don't care how she talks. I loved her singing in her audition, but have not liked one thing she has sung since then. This is why I think she had to go on AI..Grandmas connection in the recording industry hear what some of us are hearing...not a voice that sounds good with current style music....now give her a jazz number and she'd probably knock some socks off.

People-- please send Kevin home. I am sure he is a good kid but bless his heart his singing voice is horrible and he gets on my very last nerve!

Melissa and Kellie were both also a little painful for me to listen to last night but I would like to see them again next week when hopefully some of the nervousness will be gone.

Chris and Taylor were for sure the best of the night for me. I like Mandisa but I wish she would stop scream singing. She has a great voice she doesn't need to do that. Paris grates on my next to the last nerve for some reason. Lisa is talented but she hasn't had a WOW night for me yet. Elliot is good as long as I don't look at him.

Sorry. I'm a singer, I am not exaclty "idol" material but then I am too old now. If you don't know the song then don't sing it. Period. This is a performance and there are no excuses. None. Either you do it or not. I know that may sound harsh but that's the way it is.
