American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

I was just too angry to consider voting this week. That is until I saw Kat's reaction/Peish McPhee's reaction to Elliott getting voted off. It lacked class and was fitting with her little fits she's been having whenever the judges criticize her. I haven't been a big fan of Taylor since early on but I'm going to be voting hard. He seems to have a lot of humility and I think he deserves it more than Kat. He's also pretty unique and though I won't listen to his music, I'd like to have someone who breaks the mold on pop radio.

I couldn't agree more. She is beautiful and has a great voice but lacks class. Unfortunatley I didn't see the first show and didn't get to vote....what can I say we were at Disney, but we did catch the results show. I just shook my head at her facial expressions.

Personally I don't care who wins I thought the top 4 all had talent, whether it be in a certain genre of music or not and I think if they play their cards right most of the idols could do well.

You're mistaken: She is beautiful. She has a great voice. However, she doesn't lack class.

I got my AI tickets on Friday!!

I won't be voting this week. IMO the 2 best are gone, Elliott & Chris.

I was coming to post the same thing (I just watched my DVR even though I already knew who was voted off.) I was surprised at how she acted when they announced Elliott's name. Especially when Ryan was trying to put a positive spin on the fact that she lived in LA and didn't get as many people at her events. He mentioned her family, kind of leading her into saying how they were there for her and instead she said 'to tell you the truth, I don't even talk to them anymore.' :sad2:

You all do realize this is a competition, right? Why shouldn't Katharine have smiled when she realized it was Elliott, not her, going home last week. She smiled for a second. She was relieved. She has been working as hard as anyone else there and it is a COMPETITION. She probably thought it would be her name called after the bashing she got from the judges the past few weeks and she expressed a moment of happiness when hearing that she was in the final two. Geesh...people are being so hard on her. Give the girl a break! I seem to recall Elliott very HAPPILY going over to the couch when told he was safe the week before and nobody seemed to be bothered by that.

I honestly can't stand it when they get all huggy and mushy when people leave. I'm sure that there are friendships that are created here (Taylor and Kat seem to genuinely like each other, for example), but they're not gonna be friends with everyone and they're gonna be thrilled that they're still there.

It seem like unreasonable expectations regarding competition are placed on women, who aren't expected to be competitive in our society. :confused3

Bwahahah! :rotfl2: I see it now. As soon as AI releases Taylor from all the obligations, SNL will have him guest host for sure. I'd even stay up to watch that! :teeth:

SOUL PATROL!!! :thumbsup2

Did anyone see SNL and Kevin Spacey's opening? His "I think I could win American Idol" routine?

It was classic. For a lot of it you have to be an avid AI fan (like us) to "get it." There was Bucky's microphone toss, Kat's on-the-floor performances, Elliot's making that "P.R. judge who's always drunk" cry. And I'm pretty sure he was tipping his hat to Taylor when he "ended the song like a black man." Did I miss anything?

I did not see SNL, but thanks for posting the link. The video was quite funny! :rotfl:

Think what you may Bicker - but I think what I think. Just because you feel differently in no way makes you correct.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I guess you think reacting the way she does and laughing things around is appropriate - I am sure the other contestants adore her for that.

Everyone sees what they want to see. It all depends on who your favourites are. You have to remember that we are just seeing what the camera shows us, so a lot is left to viewer interpretation.

From the idolingalong blogspot:

"And as far as Tuesday's performance episode is concerned, evidentially Katharine and Taylor, like season two's Clay and Ruben, will perform different crappy original songs. Reports over the weekend were that Taylor was a tad unhappy with the drivel we call the coronation song, so the official line has changed a bit. (Not to worry; if both of them are coming from the same place, they'll both be crappy.)

Along with that, allegedly Randy is reporting that the two kids have been given a choice to sing a.) either two songs previously performed and judged between the round of 12 through the round of 4 (disqualifying final 3 and semi-final round songs) or b.) they can sing one previous number and a new, not-yet-performed one, if they choose. No word from the Taylor camp, but Katharine confirmed in her interview last week that she will sing two songs she's already performed."

Also:

"Monday, May 22, 2006
as the rumors (continue to) churn...
UPDATED!

It's finale talk, again. Okay, here's what we know or think we know:

1.) Meat Loaf will be there to duet with Katharine McPhee on It's All Coming Back to Me.

2.) Chris Daughtry will perform with the band "Live," as confirmed by the band's website.

3.) Elliott Yamin is now rumored to be performing with Mary J. Blige. And although I still refer to this as rumor, it's highly substantiated.

4.) Carrie Underwood will perform. It is being widely rumored that Clay Aiken and Bo Bice will also perform, but that is still in the rumor stage, so don't pin any hopes on it. (But I gotta admit, the thought of an Idol/runner-up reunion does get me all excited...)

5.) It is widely reported that Tamyra Gray, season one's fourth-place winner, will host Taylor Hicks' Birmingham viewing party. (If you're new the AI finale, the viewing parties can give us some of the best moments, like when Matt Rogers of season three hit on the governor's wife and Simon asked LaToya London of season three, who was decked in tiara and feather boa, if she was drunk... Ahh. Good times.)"

And the same goes for what you write. Making it bold doesn't make your perspective any more compelling than mine. :lmao: To be accurate, however, the fact that I feel differently does make it correct for me, and anyone who agrees with me.

I think I mentioned this very early in this thread: Katherine is too cosmopolitan for many people, but that's just like Bucky being too folksy for many people, Chris to hard-rock for many people, Paris being too cutesy for many people, and Taylor being too hotel bar-y for many people.

Isn't that exactly what you did in your post: :confused3 :lmao:

I think some people take this waaaaaay too seriously.

Children PLEASE! The season is nearly over. Let's just play nice until Wednesday night hmmmm?

So what two previously performed songs will Kat choose?

I would LOVE to hear Taylor do Soul Man!
