American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Thanks for the quick responses. I felt the same way because I could not figure out how they could back-pedal now.

My DD called because she said she just heard thta because of the mixed up phone line issue last week there is going to be a "redo". She wanted to know if anyone on the DIS had heard it, seems she is now a DIS believer.

Well I"ve read RUMBLINGS this afternoon that AI is making an announcement at 5:00 today.......I'm looking for more on this but can't find anything anywhere - must be the same RUMOUR spreading around today.

I live about 10 minutes from Chris. On Sat., I had a flier on my mailbox from The Chrisaders. ;) They wanted people to sign a petition at www.thepetitionsite.com to protest Chris' phone line problems.

I can't imagine AI bringing him back.

Lori

I'm a BIG Chris fan and I'll be casting the rest of my votes for Taylor. He is my #2 guy. I know of several Chris fans who are now in Taylor's corner so who knows.

I doubt Idol will have a "do-over" either.

Oh and I heard today that Chris turned Fuel down. :confused3

Here is the copy (in red) from that petition site:

"Return Chris Daughtry to the American Idol competition
Phone lines were messed up most of the night for many people. The overall voting situation is unfair, but ultimately we believe the voting totals were wrong and demand that Chris Daughtry be brought back to the show. Otherwise you have thousands of fans who will not watch AI anymore and many who have vowed to never watch any FOX programming again."

I can't imagine AI taking it seriously.

They're not going to deal with some vague "the overall voting situation is unfair" complaint at this point in the season, nor should they.
If it's unfair, seems like it's equally unfair for everyone.

They need some specifics for the claims that the totals were wrong.
If the issue is getting the call can't go through message - all the contestants have to deal with that.

I've heard folks claim they got Kat while trying to get through for Chris. Maybe they misdialed? If not and there really was an issue - pursue that. But it seems pretty unlikely to me.

As for vowing to never watch Fox programming again. :teeth:
Color me skeptical, but I just don't see it happening in large enough numbers to make any difference. Sorry.

We're nearly a week after the ouster of Chris and folks are STILL complaining of VOTER FRAUD. Hmmm....Once again, every single year people say "I couldn't get through" or "I heard someone else's voice." Why can't people just admit that their favorite didn't win? When my gal gets the boot on Wednesday, I won't be saying "I heard Taylor's voice on my phone" or "I demand a recount."

Chris's fans didn't vote enough. That's that. I'm sure it was close. However, both Idol predictor sites had Chris listed last. Hmmm....perhaps he got the least number of votes.

Sorry, but I'm still irritated that this is still an issue a week later. Sure, you may think Chris is the best singer ever on AI, but there are many who disagree with that. Like others have said, he was good, but obviously he wasn't deemed "vote-worthy" by enough.

He was on Regis and Kelly this morning, and confirmed the offer, but said he needed to think alot and decide what is best for his family. What a guy.

He also said the rumors of him already having a record deal were not true, and who knows what happened with the voting, he knows that a lot of people did vote for him!

I can't BELIEVE I didn't recognize the Bobby Caldwell song. Just listened to a sample on Amazon.Com.

Hey does anyone think that Bobby Caldwell's career will have a resurgence :teeth: ?

agnes!

I'm not a big Springsteen fan but I watched the his video of the song Clive picked for Taylor on Graycharles.com - Taylor and Bruce do have similar dancing styles! :rotfl: I swear I thought Bruce was breaking out into the Carlton there at one point! :lmao:

I think it will work for Taylor. I see this choice as a good thing. Clive knows Taylor is at his most popular when he can let loose on the stage and he's given him a song to do that with. If he had saddled him with another slow song like Randy did, I would be worried that they were trying to get rid of him. I think between this song, the Joe Cocker song and Try a Little Tenderness - there is exactly the right mix of Taylor for everyone - whether you like the serious or the spazzy Taylor.

His pick for Elliott - ehh.. I don't know if Elliott can pull off Steve Perry. Perry has one of the best voices in the industry. This would not be the best song to pull out a lot of vibrato. Plus he better do good considering Randy was in Journey and will be a lot harder on him with this choice. I'm slightly worried that Clive is making it harder on Elliott. We'll see though

The song for Kat? Well, she might do well with it? But she can't help her desire to oversing songs and when she does she gets a bit screechy - I can see he going too far with this song and going into overkill. Not sure Clive did her good on this one.

From the 3 song choices - I think Clive is favoring Taylor.

I received an e-mail from Carl Bell from Fuel this morning and this is what he said:

All right. Check it out. Here's the deal.

Normally, obviously, we would never even think about anyone from Am Idol as a singer for Fuel. However, ever since Chris sang "Hemorrhage" on the show, we began paying attention. Sorry, the show's not my thing, but at least most of the finalists can sing and aren't Britney Spearing it up there. However, Chris in my opinion has carried himself well on the show and has stayed true to his rock side, which is a serious credit to him considering the format. We have found some great guys through the audition process and in fact, were already headed in other directions when Chris unexpectedly got voted off the show. The phones started ringing. So now what? I think anyone would say that we would at least have to entertain the idea of Chris and Fuel. The websites have been flooded with support for the idea from most of you ever since he sang "Hemorrhage." So that is what we are doing. We are entertaining the idea and the offer to Chris was that we would be willing to entertain him as an option. However, there is a lot to discuss and be decided. Is it right for us? Would it be the right thing for Chris? Would he even be able to get out of the contractual obligations to Am Idol? Would we be able to get things squared with Sony? So nothing is cut and dry, even if both camps thought it was right thing to do, it still might be impossible to work out all the details. Chris and I have discussed the possibility before and we are still entertaining the idea. Either way, never fear, we are coming with a great lead singer very soon who we are very excited about and rolling out a record this year.

I'm on their e-mail list.

I am with you. I am so sick and tired of the whining. Have you seen some of the clipart they made over on the AI boards? Pictures of Chris with a candle burning next to him with the saying "May 10th, 2006 - The Day the Music Died" Like the guy died or something!

Move on people! Chris was good at what he did, but what he did had limited appeal. While people like Elliott and Taylor are picking up votes from fans of contestants that have been eliminated like Paris and Ace.. the majority of the people that liked Ace's style probably wouldn't turn their votes to a 90's angst rocker like Chris. He had a glass ceiling over his head from day one of this competition and he finally hit it. :confused3

Plus his arrogance shown on his exit interviews has turned what little appreciation I had left for him sour. Especially the one interview where the interviewer asked "What qualities do the 3 contestants left in the competition have" - the other contestants kicked off usually would find something nice to say about their so called friends. Chris's reply? "That's not relevant" :rolleyes2 God forbid we turn the subject off of you for a minute, dude.

That's weird because in the live interviews I've seen, he has been nothing but gracious. What I've also seen is two different reporters using the exact same group interview material and coming up with different interviews. I don't trust these written interviews to be truthful to what actually was said.

There seem to be more people whining about the whining than those actually whining!!! Chris fans realize that he is much better off where he is than actually winning the competition (as the winner's fans will know when he/she puts out a first album)

I didn't hear that. Gosh, I wonder how these people get such an over inflated opinion of hemselves based on a few short weeks in their lives. I can imagine how his wife and kids will fell if he takes this attitude into his home.

His later interviews have been gracious, like the Regis and Kelly one, but the first couple coming right off of the elimination have not. I think his wife might have given him a pop to the back of the head to knock him down a notch or two. :rotfl:

And, no. I'm not whining about whining. Just posting about a clipart I found distasteful and an interview I found arrogant.

Just saw Chris on the Today show with katie...geez ladie, could you let him get a word in!!! I never liked her and never thought she did good interviews. Chris loked fine and he will do ok. I doubt he will take the Fuel gig.

Looking forward to the show tonight! :cool1:

Apparently all of the Clive Davis spoilers are false and Katharine will not be choosing Man I Feel Like A Woman. We'll have to keep our ears to the ground for spoilers!!! :)

I'd like to see Taylor sing "Man I Feel Like a Woman"....

:rotfl2: :lmao:

Here is the interview I spoke of. It was shortly after the elimination. He blames his fans for not voting enough to keep him in. That they were busy voting for who they wanted to see him go up against? And when asked what was interesting about the final three he snapped that it wasn't relevant. I wouldn't say this interview is extremely gracious.

Chris Interview

He snapped? Maybe he thought the question was extremely funny and laughingly said it wasn't relevant. I'm not going to judge someone's character in a written interview where I have no idea of what sentence came before or after or what the tone was. All, I know, is that from the LIVE interviews that I saw, where I can judge what was said, he came off as the same type of guy I had seen all show.

Really though, they're teens or preteens (for the most part of course!) who really think it's "over" now that Chris is gone. For goodness sakes, have you seen some of the Constantine clip art that's still on those boards??? The Chris stuff is nothing compared to "the darkest day in my life" and then the day Constantine was eliminated. Seriously, if that's the darkest day of their lives then God bless them!! People are still angry about Constantine, so yeah, for some of these kids they'll hold on to this one for a while. I guess it's just kids being kids!!
