American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

In regards to Chris...

Me thinks you ladies should be ASHAMED of the way you're carrying on about another woman's HUSBAND! :scared1: :duck:

Realistically, don't you think Chris' family life would be the most likely to suffer from his new-found fame? How would you feel if it was your husband up there being lusted after by all you love-crazed women...? How would you feel when he's on the road, and you're back at home running the household? just wonderin' outloud..... :rolleyes1

They have changed the results on that Zabbasearch thing to now match dialidol.

Yes, but their on-site poll about who should be the next idol is the exact opposite of the phone and text votes graph they have up.

Pretty interesting.

Synposis from Nigel today:

Elliott--
He sang two great songs last night - I was worried about him singing Trouble ... but he sold it ... he is a scrapper, that boy!

Taylor --Jailhouse Rock was an audience performance -- loved it when Ryan asked Simon what he knew about hte real world ... In the Ghetto perfect genre for him ... has white soulful voice like Elvis -- favorite performance, along with Elliott's.

Katherine--
Her choices were not as good as I thought
Not surprised that she forgot her words ... it is getting tougher ... Katherine should have done Trouble ... she would have smoldered.

Can't help falling in love -- she over-egged the pudding ... went for too many bluesy notes

Chris --
JPL did Suspicious Minds better ... Chris was average

About tonight's results show--
There will be a group medley tonight ... will lose someone we don't want to lose ... vote is not always what we want it to be ... so we have to be sensitive about how we handle ... we will point out who the top 2 are, so #3 will feel the pressure.

Next week, the final 3 will sing:
Judges choice
Their own choice
Clive Davis' choice

Wow, does anyone else get the feeling that based on Nigel's lack of comments on Chris and what he said about the person getting kicked off tonight - that Chris is going home? :(

That was the first thing I thought too.

I hope we're both wrong!

That kinda makes it sound like Chris might be going home and Kat is gonna feel the pressure....

Well that would put an end to all the "chosen one" theories.

You didn't like Kalan Porter's voice? I could understand if you didn't like his style or his looks...but his voice?

Yeah Sorry...I knew I would get flamed a bit for that....Maybe it was his style too....But to me it sounded like he was singing through his nose...I think 3 of our top 4 are better as is Mandissa and Paris...Sorry....no disrespect intended

I think it could go either way with Chris or Kat leaving, would like to see Chris around for another week though.

So at what point do they replay Simon's comment from the very first Taylor audition where he and Randy/Paula fought over Taylor? I believe Simon said something about him never ever making the top 12....ahhahahahahahhahahahahah!!!

Let me just add, I will be devastated if Chris goes home tonight! It should come down to him and Taylor in the finals (it would be a ratings GIANT). Then I don't care who wins, because they are both awesome (but I think Chris is the better performer).

Chris a better performer????...I dont get that...all he does is stand there and pick up the mic stand once in a while....He has a great voice and will make great albums in the studio no doubts but Taylor is the performer/entertainer/singer....

thats for sure....I would hate to see him go....based on last night he should though but based on the entire season there is no way....I think its Taylors competition to lose....He has such a huge fan base....hase he ever not been the top vote getter or close to the top....It will be interesting to see what the judges pick for the final 3 to sing....lets see if they can pick the right song for the contestant.....If the contestant sounds bad do you think the judges will take the blame???....I doubt it

Wow. I NEVER agree with you, but you are right. While Chris has a technically better voice, Taylor is far more entertaining. I'm still holding out for a Taylor vs. Chris showdown finale. At least for another couple hours.

"Geor..gia-ah, Georrr..giaaah, the whoooole day through."

Come on now, Randy...

I don't think the judges would sabotage anyone. The big money is on the finale. They want the two that will give the biggest ratings.

Judging from what I hear around here and other boards, most people would like to see a Taylor/Chris finale. It would be a great duel.

And by the way, Kalan Porter doesn't seem to be a favourite with many guys, so you are forgiven. ;)

Just a few thoughts, rather than a full rundown of last night:

- If Chris is indeed the one to go tonight, you might as well hand Taylor the crown now. Neither of the other two - and I LOVE Kat, keep in mind - stand a chance against him.

- Wasn't floored by any of the performances last night. I think doing an "Elvis" night was just a bad idea, on it's merits. There are so many impersonators out there that, as Lauri and others have pointed out, there was no way the Idols were going to sound like anything other than someone doing Karaoke.

- On Kat being at a disadvantage...The simple fact is that Elvis just oozed masculine sensuality. Kat is the polar opposite of "masculine" in every way, shape, and form (and delightfully so, might I add ;) ). Regardless of whether Hound Dog was recorded by someone else, it was Elvis' song. Even with the ballad, there was just something sensual - in a masculine way - about the way the King sang it. Seriously, I honestly see any truly feminine female struggling in her situation last night.

- Elliott singing "I'm evil" while looking like...well, let's just leave it at :lmao:

- I like manic Taylor. He's fun to watch, and both enjoys himself and entertains his audience. But the "soulfull" side shone through on "In the Ghetto", and that's what seperates him from "average" singers like Elliott. Elliott could never pull off a performance like that. Not in a million years.

- I'd comment on Elliott's performances, but I think my neighbor was skinning a goat at the time he was singing (both times, actually), so I guess I missed it. :rotfl:

- Every year, someone makes it farther than they deserve to, and it appears that this year will be no different. But I will go on record right now saying that any of the rest of the final five that release an album will outsell anything that Goatboy inflicts on the listening audience, even if he somehow were to win the whole competition. Clip this quote and save it, then get back to me in a year. I'm saying it flat out...the guy has no chance of having a hugely successful music career. If you want evidence, look no further than the guest stars' comments. Every one of the final five has received massive praise from the guest stars that have been on the show, from Queen to Rod Stewart to Andrea Bocelli. Paris, Chris, Taylor (to a lesser extent), and especially Kat have all been praised for how talented they were. Has anyone said something like that about Elliott, other than the three judges? If so, I don't remember it.

- To the poster that said Kat needs lessons. :rotfl2: Um...she went to one of the most prestigious music schools in the country, and her mother is a voice coach. Maybe if she imitated farm animals, some people would like her better. ;) (Just kidding...please extinguish the torches :teeth: )

It's just a tv show, true, and I'll continue to watch and continue to complain when someone less talented lasts longer than someone that deserves to be there. Shoot, half the fun of the show is coming on here and seeing folks get so riled up :stir: Still, I want to see a deserving winner, and I'm sorry, but in my honest opinion, Elliott doesn't even come close.

Man, Nigel's remark really got me.... "someone we don't want to lose"... Hmmmmm....

I'd hate to see Chris go home. He is the only comp Taylor has! I agree with wvrevy, if Chris goes home they might as well FEDEX the contract to Taylor! And the ratings for the finale would PLUMMET!! Sorry, as a broadcaster I'd see this as Nielsen poison!!

Did anyone see Nigel in the audience when Taylor was rocking out? He looked like he was beside himself with joy!! I can tell he's a BIG fan!

Hmmm, so what you're saying is that you don't like Elliott? :teeth: Why so mean about him? He's a nice guy. And he sings ON KEY, which can't always be said for those remaining. Maybe you don't enjoy his BB gun vibrato, but that doesn't make him a bad singer. You say Elliott is not a deserving winner. Well, he has put more work into improving himself each week than anyone else; that makes him deserving in my book. Even if I didn't like his voice (which I do), I would still think he was deserving. Personally, I do not like Taylor's voice AT ALL, but that doesn't mean he isn't talented or deserving. I thought Kat sucked royally last night, and I think she whines and croons too much when she sings, but that doesn't mean she isn't talented or deserving either. She works hard. I do like Chris, even though he wasn't very good last night, and I think he is talented and deserving also. By the way, I've heard more people refer to CHRIS as goatboy than Elliott. They both do have a goat-like quality to their singing, but I like it!

And by the way, there have been guests who have said nice things about Elliott. I don't remember what each one said about the contestants, but I do remember that guy with Andrea Bocelli (sp?) who said that Elliott has a great voice.

Go Elliott! :rockband:
