American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

I'm sooo glad Elliott is safe, but I am sad Bucky went instead of Ace. Ace is one of the blandest contestants ever personality-wise.

I still say "Under Pressure" doesn't work as a solo song - it is a classic duet and would have just not been right as a solo. But then, I'm a huge Bowie fan .

Also - I can see here that a lot of people like Kellie. I don't really care for her or country music, but I can see from the DIS that many do. But I asked last week and I'll ask this week. . . Who are the people who are voting for Paris?? She seems to have few if any big fans here on the DIS, and a LOT of people here do NOT like her. I like her okay, but her popularity here is certainly not any indication of why she hasn't been in the bottom 3 more often (or at all?). I'm guessing there must be a big segment of the voting Idol population who is vastly underrepresented here on the DIS.

We taped AI because we wanted to watch Amazing Race and LOST and that whole 8:30-9:30 time slot is just.. weird.

Anyway, I thought Queen was supposed to perform tonight?? Weren't they?

Poor Bucky He took it so well. Based on last night's performance all of the girls needed to go before him (IMHO at least) *sigh*

So next week is Standards. I have to listen to those Rod Stewart CDs at work so I'll have to check out whats on them. The one song that sticks out in my mind is My Funny Valentine - seems I'm always on the sales floor when that one is playing..lol

Standards.. hmm.. easy week for Paris and Katharine. Same with Elliott and Ace and Taylor. Chris might have difficulty unless Creed or Live has covers of something he can use Kellie - ugh. "Whuts a staynderd?"

I can't believe I missed the group performance tonight! It must have been right at the beginning, we got home from a trip to Cold Stone Creamery about 10 minutes into the show.

Well, as an Ace fan (I know, I know) I am pleased with tonights results. Bucky was starting to grow on me though. I wish it would have been Elliot going home.

I'm anxious to see who ends up in the final two. I'm thinking Chris, and I'm not sure who else. Kelly or Taylor maybe.

Has anyone seen tour dates for this summer yet?

Even less of the population of TWOP likes Kellie. I think probably about only 5% of the posting population over there votes for her. Where this fan base is coming from.. is beyond me.

With Paris, I see a little more of a fan base over there but not much more than Kellie so I'm not sure what is keeping her alive either - although didn't she end up in the bottom 3 last week? Plus if you go by DialIdol she's usually somewhere in the middle of the pack so sooner or later that will catch up with her.

I like Kellie but I've never voted for her. In the past I've only voted for Kevin & Bucky. Now all my votes will go to Taylor.

Did anyone happen to notice that in the video clips with Kellies Grandgather he hardly had any accent? Maybe he is not from the south or not from that area. My girls pointed that out they thought it was weird that Kellies is so thick, but he had almost none.

I also thought Kellie was kinda cute tonight. She looks so much better without all that makeup on and her little bit with the tissue and then Ryan throwing it at Elliot was kinda funny.

Yeah, I don't think Paris has a shot at coming anywhere close to winning. She'll go soon. Our group can't be that off when it comes to her, can we?

But I have to say, it's at the point now where I don't like to see any of them leave . Well, I'd be okay if Ace left, but other than that I have grown to kind of like all of them. And even if I wasn't crazy about his style, Bucky did a good job with a great song choice for himself this week. And he seems to be the nicest, easy going-est guy . I kinda miss Bucky already . And then watching all their families and friends talk about them . Emotional manipulation like that tends to work on me . Even Kellie's sweet grandpa made me like her a little .

They must all be women on TWOP. Although they also hate Ace, so there goes that theory.

Regarding Paris, she seems to be really, really popular with the younger set. The kids in our neighbourhood middle school just adore her.

I think the thing about Kellie with me is that I really have no idea who she is. I was the first one from day one of her audition to say that I LOVED her. She seemed so sweet and so honestly grateful for the opportunity she received to continue on. Since that day she has become more of a 'character' and less sincere. She seems to keep trying to play the 'dumb innocent blonde' role, but then she also has this hard edge where she is trying to be sexy, but then you hear about her having used $300/session stylists for the past so many years and she was in Miss USA and it just makes her seem more wordly than she acts. It's all just very contradictory and I don't know anymore what's real and what's an act. I wanted to love her, I really did...

I can agree with that. She may be arguably the worst but why is she attracting so many votes? Don't people generally vote for the best?

I imagine that this is really causing controversy over at VFTW. How interesting to vote to keep an already popular competitor in the competition.

As silly as it sounds, it is a fairly controversial topic over at the VFTW boards. A lot of people thought Bucky should have been the candidate. I have a feeling we'll have quite a few people trying to talk VFTW into choosing Ace.

You can tell Ryan isn't a big Kellie fan, its pretty funny to watch how he treats her.


The medley was weird. I wasn't paying much attention to it though, the video got all my attention. So glad to see shots of Brenna! I miss her!!!

Oh, and speaking of VFTW, did anybody else see Scott Savol in the crowd tonight?

Slacking, isn't VFTW playing right into Simon's hands though? I don't understand it but he seems to be pushing Kellie for some reason.

I resent the implication that Bucky was the worst though! I can think of a few others both past and present that seem like better candidates to me.

Bucky is a nice guy and I really like him--- For his personality! He does not have the chops to make it as a singer. The only time I enjoyed his singing this season was when he sang "Thunder Rolls". I thought he did a great job, despite a few pitch problems. The rest of the time he has been off key most of the time. I usually listen to the first half of his performance to see how it sounds, but I usually fast forward (Tivo) through the rest. That being said, he must have a good voice in there somewhere to have even made it this far. Maybe the nerves just got the better of him. I wish him luck though, he is a really likeable guy.

I also think it is so interesting to see how people have such different taste in music. I think Elliott is awesome and I love his voice; a lot of people want to see Elliott gone next (which is very hard for me to understand! ). A lot of people love Taylor Hicks; I don't enjoy his voice at all.

They ALL have good personalities though and I don't want to see anyone go at this point.

We went to the circus tonight but I am in agreement with the bottom three though I would have liked to see Elliot go home...I have to turn the sound down on the TV when that boy sings...last night was painful to listen to him trying to sing queen...Freddie would be turning over in his grave if he heard it!!

Well Wednesday's are always a sad day. I feel bad because Bucky seemed like a nice guy and all but he just wasn't that good. It was definitely his time to go and even though I like Ace, it should be his time to go next week. After that, I have no idea how the rest will play out...they're just all so good!

On a side note, I was excited to see Will in the audience tonight! I still miss him.

And since people are asking about votes, I vote for Taylor, Chris and Katharine a lot every week. I've also thrown a few votes to Kellie, Paris, Elliot and Ace before. The only two in the top 12 I've never voted for are Melissa and Bucky.
