What’s for Dinner Tonight?

Fried chicken from both Jollibee AND Royal Farms. The latter is better.
DH says you've convinced him to try the fried chicken for lunch the next time we're up North.

On another note, I mentioned to him that you said Bojangles is different in the North, than they are in the South. What's different about them?

That sounds really good!
I agree. Everything she cooks sounds delicious.

Today is shack day! Trying another new to us location. I am so sad next weekend is Labor Day. They will all shut down between next weekend and Columbus Day. Our shack days are numbered!

I hope you are all squeezing in every minute of summer!
I'm curious. Why do they close, after Labor Day, then reopen for Columbus Day? Also, when do they close down completely for the winter & when do they reopen? It seems we're never up there the right time of year.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. Most of them are seasonal. Some close as early as Labor Day and some stay open through early October. Some reopen in April and some in May.

The ones that stay open after Labor Day usually are only open on weekends, most of their staff are college kids who return to school.

They are season because most have outdoor seating only. You walk up to a counter and order, then take your food to what is usually a picnic table, sometimes outdoor table and chairs. It would be to cold on the water to keep them open through the winter.

If you are in the area I can make recommendations depending on what you would like.

No worries. I'm sure it was just the way I read it.

I'll be sure to ask for suggestions, if we make it up there in season. Actually, now that I know so many of you live on the New England coast, I'll probably be asking for travel advice too. It seems I'm constantly choosing the wrong town/city to stay in. We usually discover a better location, after we arrive & check into the hotel. :sad2:

Today was spent “productively” reorganizing the freezers; hard work but glad it’s done. I needed to make space so I can begin making building block bases like carmelised onions, peppers and onions, etc. Hopefully, this’ll save time.

Found a bag of oxtail soup that inventory said shouldn’t be there (can’t count, huh? 🤭) so that became dinner with the addition of quinoa to replace rice. A slice of blackberry-peach spoonbread and a scoop of vanilla yogurt for dessert.

A few more hours and I’ll make up my mind whether I’m going to Zabar’s on the Upper Westside or Arthur Avenue, the Bronx’s Little Italy. Decisions, decisions.

The one on Island Park in Portsmouth is the original and better in my opinion bc it’s a true shack. ❤️ it there!!
I go to the beach in Middletown…So beautiful!
I also wanted to add that the chowder is not great. It’s not the creamy thick New England kind that we like. DH just gets it to dunk his clam cakes in. Haha I eat it when he’s done.
BUT the clam cakes and fried clams are the BEST!!!

Today is family lunch day, so not sure what dinner will be if anything.
We are having tacos, chips and salsa, fruit....strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, grapes, pineapple and blueberries.......and our Trust attorney and financial planter sent an Edible Arrangement. I haven't taken the paper off it yet.
Dessert is ice cream and a bunch of toppings.
It was DD's pick this weekend.

Yesterday we ended up making tacos out of the smoked chicken so I made some black beans and rice to go with them.

Tonight we’ll be going to one of the local Japanese Steakhouses for Hibachi. Tomorrow is my birthday, but we’re celebrating today.
Happy Birthday in advance! :bday: I hope you have a fantastic day.

I have issues. I had a half a package of Oreos left after my Oreo cake on Friday so I just made cookies and cream ice cream. I am here for you if you thought how can I make Oreos worse for myself? I give you 2 examples 🍰 🍦 😂
