American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Country will be really interesting! It will be interesting to see the song choices. I hope some go out on a limb and stay away from Garth, Martina, Faith, Tim and Kenny....but I don't think they will. There is so much good countrey to choose from; classic, bluegrass, contemporary.

I can see Chris doing Garth Brooks' "Shameless"

Eliot should lean towards Rascall Flatts...maybe "Skin"...or maybe even going back a bit...Keith Whitley.

How about Taylor singing Kenny Chesney's "She Thinks my Tractors Sexy?"...that would be a hoot!

I think Kellie should do something by LeeAnn Womack.

The rest I'm still thinking on.

Elliott better not touch Keith Whitley I see him doing Garth .....I would love to see Taylor sing George Jones....He stopped loving her today...

Chris I want to see a slow country Ballad.....Maybe even take on my favorite artist Geroge Strait.... I cross my heart

Kellie....Do some Dolly or Womack they have a similar voice...

Katherine better be careful taking on Martina.....A good ballad for her too would be smart....

Ace..?????????

Paris should go after a Patsy song I think

Just some thoughts

you do know it is "take your CAP and leave my sweater"?

I thought it was cat until someone posted the correect words here a while back...I still sing it as CAT though.

I also thought it was "cat", and now that you've pointed out the correct word, I still like "cat" better (more personal), so I'll continue to sing it that way! :teeth:

Woo Hoo!!! I've been on a wait list since last season to get tickets to AI. Well today I get an email saying that if I attend the taping of some new celebrity gameshow next week, I can get priority seating tickets to an AI dress rehearsal! I want to go so bad but I don't know if I can get anyone to watch my kids....I'll have to figure something out!

That is so cool! Hope you find someone to watch the kids...it sounds like fun.

Then again, maybe THEY are singing the wrong words :rotfl2:

I want Bucky to sing this song! :rotfl: :thumbsup2 It just fits his style so well.

Pickup Man

Well I got my first truck, when I was three,
Drove a hundred thousand miles on my knees
Hauled marbles and rocks, and thought twice before
I hauled a Barbie Doll bed for the girl next door
When she paid me with a kiss I began to understand,
There's just something women like about a PickUp Man

When I turned sixteen, I saved a few hundred bucks
My first car was a Pickup Truck
Started cruisin' the town and the first girl I seen
Was Bobbie Jo Gentry the homecoming queen
She flagged me down and climbed up in the cab, and said
"I never knew you were a Pickup Man!"

You can set my truck on fire, roll it down a hill
But I still wouldn't trade it for a Coupe DeVille
It's got an eight foot bed that never has to be made
You know if it weren't for trucks we wouldn't have tailgates
I met all my wives in traffic jams,
You know there's something women like about a Pickup Man

Most Friday nights, I can be found
In the back of my truck on an old chaise lounge
Backed into my spot at the drive-in show
You know a cargo light gives off a romantic glow
I never have to wait in line at the popcorn stand,
There's just something women like about a pickup Man

You can set my truck on fire, roll it down a hill
But I still wouldn't trade it for a Coupe DeVille
It's got an eight foot bed that never has to be made
You know if it weren't for trucks we wouldn't have tailgates
I met all my wives in traffic jams,
You know there's something women like about a Pickup Man

A bucket of rust, or a brand new machine
Once around the block and you'll know what I mean

You can set my truck on fire, roll it down a hill
But I still wouldn't trade it for a Coupe DeVille
It's got an eight foot bed that never has to be made
You know if it weren't for trucks we wouldn't have tailgates

Yeah, well that's because Simon has no soul. :p

Simon will pretty much hate anything Bucky sings. Pickup Man would be a good choice for him though. I could also see him doing some Montgomery Gentry, Gary Allan, or even Garth again.

Simon is going to look like he is being tortured next week. :lmao: He hates country! I hope that they don't butcher some of my favorite songs.

Hi all! I just found this thread today! YaY! I'm making my way through the pages still....

In the meantime, Just some thoughts: Was anyone else surprised by Katherine being in the bottom 3 on the last show? She is One of my Fav's! Hubby & I have the "McFever" I guess, HA! I think Ace will get the boot next time if he doesn't do something Amazing on the next show! I'm glad that Bucky didn't do as much of the mic. twirling/tossing on his last performance....I thought it was much better w/out that stuff!

Who is everybody's favorites? It's weird because from week to week it changes for me. It all depends on what song they sing. Some weeks they do SO well then other weeks....When it's not the right song for them it seems that it just sounds All Wrong! I really do agree with the judges when they talk about song choice!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to reading all/more of this thread....

~Kristi

My rankings:

#1. Elliott
2. Taylor
3. Chris
4. Mandisa

6. Paris

9. Kellie

Nothing can be worse than William Hung "we are the champions". :sad2:
