American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

Oh man, I so hope the Queen thing isn't an April Fools Day joke! DH Matt and I are both Queen fans and would love to see some of them (note.. we said SOME of the contestants) tackle some Queen classics!

Woo Hoo!!! I've been on a wait list since last season to get tickets to AI. Well today I get an email saying that if I attend the taping of some new celebrity gameshow next week, I can get priority seating tickets to an AI dress rehearsal! I want to go so bad but I don't know if I can get anyone to watch my kids....I'll have to figure something out!

Ah, man, If I were on the other side of the country I'd watch them! That and a dollar will buy you a cup of coffee! :rotfl: I hope you find someone to watch them. Too bad you don't know my MIL--she doesn't live far from you. Geez, I'm really not much of a help, am I? It would be so much fun to go see the dress rehearsal and I think that gameshow would be fun, too. But remember, I'm easily impressed... :teeth:

Well, I for one can't wait for the week of the 11th....

Its QUEEN night!

I'll laugh my butt off to see some of the contestants try to do well with this genre.

I can see Elliot doing a fantastic version of Crazy little thing called love
Ace will butcher Old Fashioned Lover Boy or Bicycle.
Chris will most likely do we are the champions

Can you see Paris or Kellie trying to do the scaramoush scaramoush will you do the fandago?

The word is "cat" .....I've heard him sing a version with "cap" but it really is take your cat and leave my sweater............

Take your records, take you freedom
Take your memories, I dont need 'em
Take your space and take your reasons
But you'll think of me
And take your cap and leave my sweater
'Cause we have nothing left to weather
In fact I'll feel a whole lot better
But you'll think of me, you'll think of me

Got the above off a Keith Urban Lyrics website...funny thing is some say cat, some say cap...maybe it depends on who types up the lyrics on the websites?
Anyone have the CD with "official" lyrics in it...cause now I am curious which is really correct. Cap makes more sense when you think of the words following it....but I do like CAT better. I've also heard the "cap" version when he sang it on an awards show.

Sorry to get OT again.

Well, I am hoping that was a joke...cause I won't watch that night. I don't want to see Queen butchered beyond belief by some of these contestants. Kellie Pickler singing Queen??? :lmao:
Paris singing Queen? :teeth:
I'm not even sure Taylor would do them justice.

Taylor could do a mean Fat Bottomed Girls. I think my boy Elliott would pull off We Are the Champions very well, and it's a shame Torso Rodriguez isn't around anymore to do Bohemian Rhapsody.

It's funny how much reaction a Queen night is getting over the country theme.

Queen night, I can see Pickler coming out with a crown on. "You said it was queen night!" lol

For country night, I would love to see Chris do "save a horse" by Big and Rich! He's so hot!

Oh, and I would love to see Taylor do "crazy little thing" and dance all crazy like he does!
:dancer:

I don't need to see anymore of Elliot's dancing...

I think most of the idols have pretty much stayed in their little boxes. I don't see why they should venture out. Is Chris going to put out an album of country, 50's, Stevie Wonder, Gospel, hip hop, polka, standards, broadway? Not likely, so why even go there. I like it when they stay in their comfort zone.

What the heck is Chris going to do with the Idol song???? He could borrow this year's Canadian Idol, Idol song. He really could rock it up.

Holy Cow!! thank you for sharing that clip of the Canadian Idol...he is great! Makes me wish I was 18 again!!

Country night suggestions

Kellie - Wide Open Spaces by the Dixie Chicks
Paris - Crazy by Patsy Kline
Mandisa - When Will I Be Loved by Linda Rondstadt
Katherine - When You Say Nothing at All by Allison Krauss

Elliot - God Bless the Broken Road by Rascall Flatts (I know it's VERY popular, but I would really like to hear him sing it)
Ace - Remember Me by Tim McGraw (he can only really sing the sappy, vulnerable stuff IMO)
Chris - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Mark Chestnutt (and Aerosmith)
Bucky - Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks
Taylor - Now HE should do Shameless!! (Garth Brooks)

And my prediction of how they'll go down (from first voted off to winner)
9. Ace
8. Bucky
7. Kellie
6. Elliot
5. Katherine
4. Taylor
3. Mandisa
2. Paris
1. Chris

And how I would choose if it was up to me:
9. Bucky
8. Ace
7. Kellie
6. Paris
5. Chris
4. Elliot
3. Mandisa
2. Katherine
1. Taylor

My Queen choices :)

I Want to Break Free - Taylor, maybe Chris

Somebody to Love - Chris, if he promises not to scream it ;)

You're My Best Friend - Mandisa

Another One Bites The Dust or I Want it All - Chris - if he won't promise not to scream during Somebody to Love ;)

Crazy Little Thing Called Love - either Bucky or Kellie since it's rockabilly sound will be the kindest to their country "twangs"

Who Wants to Live Forever - Katharine

Save Me - Taylor - Taylor gets two songs tonight :teeth:

Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy - Elliott

Play the Game or (if he has the guts) Stone Cold Crazy - Ace

and for lack of being able to find anything that would fit her...

If she wanted to go slow - One Year of Love or if she wanted a faster song Radio Ga Ga - Paris

Did I forget anyone?

Thanks for the Queen link. Wow! Great album! I sometimes like covers better than the originals. Constantine sounds fabulous and love Josh Kelly and Joss Stone as well. I might have to buy this one! :thumbsup2

I like those MeanLaureen but what about Kelllie and Bucky? I see the one song and that works OK but I've been mulling over what the other one could do.

This is a TOUGH category for the country singers!

Here is a link to the Killer Queen Album. You can hear what Queen sounds like when it is performed by other artists.

Thanks for the link Damo :)

I know a lot of people didn't like Constantine last year for one reason or another. But Freddie Mercury is probably one of the hardest voices to do justice to, and especially in Bohemian Rhapsody and Constantine did a hell of a job covering that song

They are going to have to do a duet because I can't think of anything else that will be able to handle a country sound. :rotfl2:

Duets are popular in country so why not? :rotfl:

Am I the only one that likes "tie your mother down" by Queen? :confused3

I think Chris would do it great!
