American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

I think the part about about being the biggest beauty contest and the pretty ones getting voted off confused me in you comments.... :confused3
I could imagine your confusion: I didn't say AI was a beauty contest. Quite the opposite.

So if what you are saying is true Kellie, Katherin ace and chris will not win
Chris is pretty? :confused3

LaToya was the best of the bunch but she never connected to those that make the phone calls.

I was a late comer to AI and only started watching it last year. One day I was downloading songs of various contestants that had been on the show over the years and LaToya got downloaded a lot! :thumbsup2

I don't know what she looks like or how her stage presence was but her voice is fantastic.

A couple of others I've never even seen a picture of but love to hear them sing are Diana DeGarmo and Kimberley Locke.

BTW, ever wonder who sang what? Here's a great site.

Every Idol Song.

I like Bucky. Would I vote for him because I thought he was the best singer? No. Would I throw votes his way because I just like him? Yes. I guess that would be more sympathy than," Bucky is going to be the next American Idol." Yes the sympathy vote does make sense. Katherine was far from terrible. She is one of the best singers on the show. I forgot something. This is a popularity contest not a true singing competition.

That's all your opinion, mine and many others have different ones. I like Bucky and don't care for Katherine at all, I actually think her voice is pretty generic souding and nothing special. Tuesday, I thought she was flat out terrible. To each his/her own.

For all of those who didn't "get" Bucky's performance this week, I encourage you to listen to the version by Tim McGraw. Bucky's performance was "spot on" as they say :teeth: .

I disagree..I've seen Tim live..not even close.

I thought Buckey was better this week, but his voice does zilch for me.

You are correct it is my opinion. I'm sure many others would agree with me also. There is a whole big world out there. Also, Bucky seems like a genuine person. I have always given him a couple votes. Know reason to turn this into an argument. It's not a political post. We should be able to give an opinion without a battle. Let's not turn it into one. Thanks!

A battle over AI? :rotfl: Thanks for informing me "there's a whole big world out there", I didn't know that. For someone claiming not to want to start a battle, you sure are condescending.

Okay, for the posters that are saying this is a popularity contest, in a way it is. Luciano Pavarotti is technically a wonderful singer, but do I want to hear him on the radio all day? - No, I'd rather hear Bucky. Bucky's music is more popular to me. I hate that every year, this thread turns ugly because people can't accept that everyone will never like the same thing. That's why we have different stations that we can listen to and Pavarotti fans can hear him at the same time that Bucky fans can enjoy his music. It's all a matter of taste. No one is right or wrong here - it's going to end up being who gets the most votes - and that will be who is most popular with the audience.

Yes, I would definately use the word "HOT" to describe Chris.
He is definately my type.

Country music should definately by intersting next week. I am not a country fan, so I have no idea what anyone might sing. I wonder how Paris, Mandisa and Elliott will do? For some reason, I cant picture Elliott singing country.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about Chris. What hard-rocking country song will he pull out of his...hat?

Country will be really interesting! It will be interesting to see the song choices. I hope some go out on a limb and stay away from Garth, Martina, Faith, Tim and Kenny....but I don't think they will. There is so much good countrey to choose from; classic, bluegrass, contemporary.

I can see Chris doing Garth Brooks' "Shameless"

Eliot should lean towards Rascall Flatts...maybe "Skin"...or maybe even going back a bit...Keith Whitley.

How about Taylor singing Kenny Chesney's "She Thinks my Tractors Sexy?"...that would be a hoot!

I think Kellie should do something by LeeAnn Womack.

The rest I'm still thinking on.

My thoughts on this weeks' shows & stuff...

Lisa...what was with all that eyebrow-lifting/mugging after her performance on Tuesday? She looked like she couldn't believe she was even getting criticized. I think her best performance was during her initial audition.

Chris...just MO, but everything he does sounds the same to me. I think he's talented, but sometimes it seems that he SCREAMS most of his songs (especially this week). Last week, thought his tone was *all* over the place on "Walk the Line". I had no problem with his intrepretaion, but the song seemed like it was in the wrong key for him, almost too low. He should have auditioned for Rock Star.

Paris...doesn't do much for me. And does everything she sings have to be AT FULL VOLUME?!? And I know this is petty, but her speaking voice...ack! She did look nice this week.

Mandisa...no more tight jeans. Last week she looked gorgeous, this week - eek! One of my usual favorites, though.

Bucky...needs to not be so mush-mouthed. But I actually found myself liking his performance this week, for the first time. Should have auditioned for Nashville Star.

Kellie...how long has she been sick? I think she has a sore throat or a virus, but even though she picked her favorite genre, she seemed to be phoning it in. Should have auditioned for Nashville Star.

Katherine...I think people don't vote for her because she's "too". Too pretty, too nice, too tall, too thin...just "too". I hope her song choice next week goes better

Taylor...picked out a soul-type song(what a shocker) And I'm with Simon...didn't really like that outfit he was wearing. One of my usual favorites though.

Elliott...I liked his performance this week.

Ace...phones it in every week, practically crawls into the camera, & puts on so many come-hither moves that he looks like he's trying out for Next Top Model.

I wasn't crazy about any of the performances this past week. I hope Country Week goes better.

agnes!

who the heck is Shakira and why were we forced to watch her "act"?

Kind of reminded me of a superbowl/college bowl game halftime show....is this the best they could come up with?

I'm guessing she has ties to Fox somehow.....

Seriously you guys don't know who Shakira is? She's probably the biggest latin crossover artist today with lots of Billboard hits.

I agree. My sister (29 years old) sent me an email saying that she enjoyed it and that she loves Shakira. I emailed her back to say that while I hope I never have to hear that crap again, if I were a guy, I'd probably be glued to the television - that girl is sexy.

Shakira does Shaka laka doesn't she? If she does I love that song.

She has had some big hits...and man can she move those hips!

Who was singing with her though? I have no clue who it was.

Chris doing Shamless - that would be great! I could also see him singing "Indian Outlaw" by Tim McGraw.

I'd love for Bucky to sing something by Gary Allen or Chris Cagle!

Kellie - I could see her singing Mindy McCready or Deana Carter

Ace - Keith Urban

Taylor - Garth Brooks or some older country

Katherine - Martina McBride

Elliott - maybe Desperado by Clint Black?

The others I still gotta think about....

.

I'm curious why you think they shouldn't pick songs from these artists?
