American Idol, Season 5 **Official Discussion Thread** Part 2

I think that many of the top ten could be successful in the music field. If they pick the right type of music and the right songs, they all have potential IMO.

Sniping about who will be most successful is like playing darts. Who knows where it will land.

Does anyone believe that Kat actually has a chance to win this thing???

Why not? I agree that Taylor does have a bigger fan base. But you never know! ;) If she can sing like she did for "Over the Rainbow" and not push to hard, she might do okay. I'm not making any bets that she will win. But I will be voting for her! :)

Performance: Big edge Taylor

The way Taylor performs is also a big turn off to a lot of people. There seem to be a lot of bathroom problems identified with Taylor's performances in the way he dances and the way he stands and his facial expressions when is is singing a serious song. This could be a real issue with new viewers tuning in for the finale.

One more thing - "Making love to the camera????" :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ...um, not acting like that he's not!

I dunno, I wouldn't kick him out of bed. :confused3 :teeth:  A man that sure of himself could probably be verrrrrry interesting in that department. :teeth:

Of course, I'd have to ask my husband to move over a little to make a little room. :teeth:

Ok, I too am sick of hearing about how Taylor is only fun to watch and not a good singer. People have to listen. When Ace was around people were falling all over themselves because of his falsetto. Not one word about Taylor's amazing falsetto the last 2 weeks at least. His range - the notes he can hit. And so sweet to listen to. For some of us, at least.

I think most of his(Ace's) fans (including me) thought his falsetto totally sucked.

Taylor does have a good midrange and upper register but he doesn't have a very good lower register. He lacked the strength during the beginning of You Are So Beautiful because of that.

I love Taylor! That said, I'm worried! I don't like that the producers won't reveal who came in second place last night - what's the secret? A fix?

I'm sure they need to be careful about swaying voters at this point. The only number that was relevant last night was the lowest one.

Aren't you going to go into withdrawal after next Tuesday when the Taylor Hicks show comes to an end?

I think Kat can...and likely will win. AI history tells us that at this point, they are both going to stand on equal ground, professionally. Kat and Taylor both won last night and I couldn't be happier. Well, I would be happier.... if it were Chris and Taylor.

Or, Elliot and T.
Or, Mandisa and T.
Or, Bucky and T.
Or, Paris and T.
Or, William Hung and T.
Or...anyone else and T

But that's ok. :smooth:

GOT MY AI TOUR TICKETS!!!!!!!!!!!1 :cheer2:  :cheer2:  :cheer2:

I'm so happy!!! First section floor, center, row O. Chris Daughtry, HERE I COME!!!

But we're just not mentioning the ticket price to almost DH..... whe he doesn't know won't hurt him. :rolleyes1 They were so freaking expensive after the taxes. :rolleyes2

Count me as one who finds Taylor's "performances" annoying. The times when he just sits/stands and sings have been his best. I enjoyed those performances. When he gets all crazy all over the stage, he gets breathless and his singing suffers. Plus, I think he looks like a dork doing that!

However, Kat's got a personality and attitude that turns me off. And her voice is not that much better than Taylor's. So unless she does an extremely excellent job next week, I'll be voting for Taylor. I still wouldn't buy either of their albums, but I'd rather have the nicer person win.

This has been my first year watching all of AI. I found it really difficult these last few weeks to choose who I thought did the best job.

There were things I really liked about Chris - His version of I Walk the Line was fantastic but I found most of his songs sounded the same. When he "sang", he sounded great but other times, to me it was screaming. My opinion is definitely based on personal preference.
Elliot was a favorite in the beginning - so much potential in that voice. This week I was bored with his songs, not his voice.
Kat - really like her voice but not always her song choices.
Taylor - same for me - certainly different voice and song choices but I really like him and find him enjoyable to listen to and to watch. And, I don't always watch AI because I'm doing something else but I do listen and he's still good without watching him!

My leanings for the final is Taylor but.....

Please explain to me how to down load those songs from that site! I love them! I can listen but didn't see anywhere to down load them. What do I need to do?!?!? I must say I am more impressed than ever!

And costuming??? :cool1:

Not really, no. Hey, I'll be the first to admit that Kat is ssseriously sssmokin' hot :teeth: But I will vote for the person that I think does the best job this week. I'm leaning towards Taylor going in, since I think he's had the best season as a whole, so Kat will have to do something phenomenal (like hit three home runs of the "Over the Rainbow" variety) to get me to switch that vote. Yes, I voted for her last week, but mostly because I knew Taylor would be in the final, and thought she deserved to be there over the alternative.

Besides...Kat would be gorgeous in a potato sack, and since I am not of the persuasion that would make Taylor attractive in that way, she's always going to win out in that regard. :teeth:

I think you will be wrong about that. I predict Elliott will be this year's Clay Aiken and will continue to have a very loyal following.

I would follow Elliott!! :teeth:

I'd be really curious to see if Taylor does as well as everyone seems to think he will...who knows, maybe he'll prove me wrong...

I will get yall all to agree with me eventually... :rotfl2:

Not me, I will NEVER think Taylor has a tremendous voice or whatever you called it. Elliott had a way better voice than him IMO.

Clearly Taylor has a great time when he performs, but to me it's getting really old and tacky. It's better when he just stands there and doesn't look like such a spaz. :rolleyes2

Did you buy them through Ticketmaster? I tried again today, but the seats were still awful, we're thinking of changing the venue to one that's even further away but maybe we'll be more successful. :confused3

Being a "spaz" doesn't seem to have hurt Mick Jagger's career or Ray Charles or many others who have a "style" of dancing and performing that could be mistaken for siezures or tics or whatever. Geesh...look at Jessica Simpson. Have you ever watched the girl sing? I literally had to change the channel during her Christmas special with her ex husband because watching her was so painfully embarrassing. She looks like she's having siezures (or she's majorly constipated) when she sings. But people love her! Taylor definitely has some unusual movements and facial expressions sometimes...but I don't think it changes the fact that he is a great singer and performer.

So totally agree about JS. It IS painful to watch her and listen to her. What people see/hear in her I just don't know.

yeah, I got them through the Internet presale password (AMERICAN) not by using the poptarts one. The poptarts seats were awful. I got these tickets on my second try with the new password. There's always first thing on Friday when they go on sale to the public. GOOD LUCK!!! :thumbsup2

I tried that password this morning and they still offered me crap seats, I'm so bummed. Part of the problem is that I need five tickets, if only I needed two, I'd be sitting on the floor. Tomorrow I'm going to try presales at the other two venues that are further from my house, (Manchester and Hartford) while my friend tries to get them through the public sale for Worcester. We shall see. I got so spoiled when I got tickets for INXS I got the fifth row, it's so hard to go back to the nose bleed seats. :guilty:

DH just used the Pop tarts code to get DS and me tickets. We got lower bowl seating, row 5, in a section adjacent to the section directly in front of the stage (if that makes sense). We thought they were pretty good seats for our price range, although with all the fees ... YOWSA!

So, I'll be seeing Taylor ... now all I need is a Soul Patrol tee shirt!
