Well all my votes went for CHRIS last night :cheer2:

I love Renegade and I definately thought he did it justice. It was too bad he got screechy during I Dare You. If you listen to Shinedown's version, they dont really shout at all in it. He sang it much better in the recap at the end. I assume the recaps are taped during their rehersals since Chris did some moves in the recap that he didnt do on the show.
He looked HOT in the leather jacket too!

I guess I am a rocker at heart. I am 38, so I am no spring chicken in case that's what you are wondering. I am just wondering what are the ages of those that love Taylor so much? I just dont get it. He is funny and amusing, but I just dont see him as the "American Idol". He is a little too spastic for me. I would have loved to hear him sing a modern song last night-the Beattles song seemed like the wrong choice for last night.

For those of you that critize that Chris always sounds the same, I disagree. He has done plenty of rock sings, but has also done slower songs like on country night, 50s night and last week. You cannot say the same for Elliott. He sounds like a Stevie Wonder knock off every single time. I would love to see Katherine or Elliott rock it out more once in a while. At Paris tried once during Quenn night.
Just my two cents.

I'm also 38. I don't find Taylor funny and amusing, but I do find him immensely talented. He brings a real joy to his music, and his movements are just spontaneous expressions of who he is. I also love Chris, Elliott and Katherine but not as much as I love Taylor. I think Taylor is far more versatile.

I don't get why people always have to wonder about other people's favorites. We all have different taste! I'm not surprised some people like Chris (or Elliott, Kat or Paris) best even though I like Taylor best. Variety is the spice of life, we can't all like the same thing can we?

I'm 36 and love Taylor. I think I have some rocker in me too, as I am also a big Chris fan. I also disagree with those that say Chris always sounds the same. Man, he can SING.

But I think Taylor has a talent that he just can't showcase on this stage. I think this stage is made for people like Katherine. As a Chris fan, you had to have noticed this at one point. Like when he did awesome Creed and everyone was like :confused3 I think if you're not straight singing with pure perfection, you're going to be criticized as an AI contestant. Most Taylor fans have found something in him that moves them. That, IMO, is the case with most real, real popular artists who endure the test of time. Take Aerosmith...can Tyler sing? I'm not sure he really can, but man can he move me!!

And speaking of being moved....The crowning moment for me last night came down to one phrase of "Something" as Taylor sings "something in the way she..." (here it is - the pause, the breath, the eyes closed) "woooooooooooes me"

Thump, I'm on the floor. There it is.

Ok, be honest... would you buy a CD from any of this seasons contestants?

I was thinking about the comparison between Chris and Taylor, whom I both like. The difference between the two is that I would buy Chris' CD, but I would go see Taylor live.

Loved Chris doing Renegade, thought second song was a little too screechy

Loved Kat's second song, thought Against all Odds was ok

Didn't hate Paris doing Kiss, liked second song better

Liked Taylor doing Funky music, didn't love Something, it was ok

Elliott just too boring and I'm sorry but those teeth freak me out.

Going home Paris, hope that it's Elliott though, sorry Elliott. :guilty:

Once again I read how people think that one person did the worst, yet Paris will probably be the one going home. I don't get it :confused3 The worst performances that particular week should be the one going home, right? Anyhoo, looooooved Taylor, thought that Paris doing Kiss was a little "odd", but her performance was fairly well. I don't believe, for one cussing moment, that she said a naughty word during the song (I believe that she, as well as her family, have much better sense than to allow this to happen. These folks are not stupid). Paris would never cuss in front of grandma, especially on national tv! But, hey, what do I know :goodvibes

Yea - in a perfect world. Not on AI though!

Paris going home tonight - there's no way around it. I don't think there's been a results show where she hasn't been in the bottom 2 or 3, has there?

if the producers thought it fit the theme - whatever - works for me
So, you're okay now with them making Taylor change songs the other week? ;)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. :rotfl: Amazing how the playing field changes when the rules run against someone that we don't like versus when they run against someone that we do like, eh? :lmao:

Viewers generally vote for the singer not the performance. That's why there weren't separate telephone numbers for the two separate performances each singer gave last night. In that context, viewers vote for who they feel is the best singer, and we have weeks and weeks of performances on which to based that determination (though last night's performances are the freshest on our minds, of course).

I don't think so at all. Once you get to the final 10 I am more than willing to forgive a bad performance. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that Chis is HEAD AND SHOULDERS above everbody else, and has been all season ( like I think he is ).... so, he comes out and absoulytely stinks up the joint. Should he go home?

I know that "I" do not think so. Now if you have even ONE BAD SONG before the final 10, well, don't let the door hit ya......

Was he made to change songs the other week because of "rules" or because of the opinions of the producers? That's a real question because I'm with you on the "rules are rules" thing. But I didn't think the other week had anything to do with rules.

My critique from last night:

Elliott - his second song was better then his first song; the vibrato got a little distracting for me on his first song but the boy can sing.

Paris - I have not liked her since the beginning and last night didn't change my mind.

Chris - what can I say about Chris that hasn't been already said??? Renegade, one of my all time favorite Styx songs and Chris came through - GREAT!!! The Shinedown song was a little rough but still good. By far the best performance of the night. :thumbsup2

Katherine - Against all odds was not one of her better performances. What was her deal with crawling all over the floor :sad2: - YIKES!!

Taylor - Loved both of Taylors performances last night, the most consistent with both songs. :thumbsup2

Best song of the night: Chris' rendition of Renegade :teeth:

Most consistent with both songs: Taylor

Unfortunately someone has to go home tonight. I'm predicting Paris and Katherine in the bottom two with Paris going home.

Exactly! If Mandisa's 50s night performance was classified as sexy, then so should this performance, at least by Paula (she is a woman). Listen to the mp3 and hear the women in the audience scream after that phrasing...

Where can you find the MP3s?

My biggest problem with Taylor's choice is that it communicates just what you're getting with him: Nothing new. Why is he so afraid to sing new music? Is that the kind of career he hopes to have? Just singing covers of old songs? I'd never buy into that. I might go to a performance on a cruise ship like that, and might even go to a local fall festival with that kind of music, but I wouldn't really commit to a performer who's just giving me "his own take" on stuff other folks made famous already. This was one of the idols' few opportunities to show they had some ability to work with new material. He simply decided that wasn't for him. Very bad choice.

I disagree totallly. As far as I know none of the contestants of any AI contest have ever sung their own original songs. They are ALL doing covers. Whether they are "new" songs or "old" songs they are still covers and they are all doing their "own takes" of songs other people have made famous. None of them are working with new material unless they win and then they make them sing some cheezy AI song written for the winner...a song they would probably never sing if given the choice. If I'm not mistaken, Taylor is a song writer, and I'm sure he would love to use some of his own material if he could. That's why I love Nashville Star (my man won by the way...go Chris!) They get to play their own instruments and sing their own songs.

graycharles.com

Every Taylor Tuesday ... AI followed by graycharles for downloads and reading the blogs. I am OBSESSED!

Look around, all mp3s are available for Taylor's AI performances and other pre-idol performances.

And, because I am obsessed and can't let it go, Something moved me to tears and this has only happened with 3 other songs in my life: Carly Simon's "You Are the Love of My Life" (because I'm a mommy), Reba's "Sister" (because I  my sister) and "Ol' Man River" (:confused3).

OOPS! I meant that to be in reference to the post about "cheater, cheater booger eater"...I was agreeing with the OP.

I disagree totallly.
You missed my point. I didn't say anything about the singers singing "their own original songs". What I said was that this week was about singing a song that has an established history and singing a song for which there isn't an established history. There are different skills necessary for each. For a song with an established history, you need to make people either forget the original or you need to exceed the original, to truly do well. For a song without an established history, you actually have to make people like the song, which is very difficult, since many people develop a liking for songs over time, not at first hearing. Seems to me Taylor just wants to sing "golden oldies" -- songs that people already have an firmly established feeling about. I don't know why he did that, but my conclusion is he either didn't feel he could, or didn't feel he needed to, show that he could competently showcase a song that doesn't have a long history.
