American Idol: Season 10 PART III

Hmm... I guess maybe I didn't explain what I meant well. Sorry about that. Here's an example of what I'm referring to: In November 2009, Carrie Underwood was #1 on the pop charts - not just the Country charts. Her music appeals to folks to otherwise claim that they hate Country music. There is no indication that her pop appeal is accidental. By comparison, it is really that Scotty has no interest in going down that path. The judges have made that observation themselves all season.

I think that there are a LOT of teenage girls that are going to disagree with you, and Scotty for that matter, and no matter how much he doesn't want the "cross-over' he is going to get it because there are a LOT of teenage girls just waiting to buy his records and see him in concert. He appeals to that audience and the record producers know that. His initial success will come from that market--plus, as a parent of a teenage girl that LOVES Scotty, he's a good, clean cut, all American boy. I would rather my DD see him in concert than Justin Beiber. :scared:

I don't see Lauren as a Diva at all, just a young emotional girl.

I have a big problem with Haley, she obviously thinks she is "all that", which I do not agree with. I can't stand her attitude or her singing.

I always find the differing points of view interesting. What grabs one person has no effect on the other. What one person sees as arrogant, another sees as humble. What is obvious to one person is totally unseen by another. What one person sees as star quality is totally overlooked by another. Trying to convince someone that your pick is the right pick is never going to work. What you like is what you like.

I def don't seen teen girls into Scotty...where did that come from? With his voice I don't think there is a crossover...

I agree. I haven't watched the show for a couple weeks and was amazed at how cocky she has become.

Really--do you have any teen girls around? Here they are ALL talking about Scotty. He's 16, cute in an odd sort of way and he is on TV, that is all a teen girl needs to go gaga over him :lmao:. Plus, I think performers like Carrie Underwood have brought the "country" scene more mainstream for kids today too. He has gotten over twice as many votes as anyone else on the show if you follow the Dial Idol results too.

K, so I'm having surgery tomorrow and may have to still be in the hospital Wed night. I wonder if Haley will sound better when I'm on pain meds??? ;)

DDs and I already have a viewing plan in place in case I have to stay a 2nd night, I'm just hoping I feel up to yelling at the TV...

Good Luck with the surgery :goodvibes And I don't think the pain meds will make her sounds any better, but perhaps they will allow you to forget her performance easier!;) Just remember the mute button, you will not need to add any further pain while in the hopsital.

I concur! :thumbsup2

I can't even remember Lauren saying anything that would make anyone think that she thinks she's going to win. She has so little self confidence and to me, always seems surprised when she gets good criticism from the judges. She seems very shy and humble to me, and doesn't even know herself how good she is.

Well it's not obvious to me, and I think just the opposite about her attitude and singing. ;)

If anyone thinks they are all that I would say it is James. Several weeks ago he mentioned saving some song or other "for the finals". I guess you could call it confidence or arrogance, depending on whether you like him or not. It didn't really change my thoughts on him. I like him and think he's very talented - the same way I feel about all of the top 4. I really don't think any of them have Diva attitudes.

After Jacob was eliminated, someone said that Haley had a big smile on her face, like one more body to step on on her way to winning. Friday I was watching E news and they replayed the results. They panned over to the couch where the safe ones were, and I clearly saw Haley say the words "I love you Jacob". I had missed that when watching it live. That doesn't seem like a cut-throat attitude to me.

Isnt that the truth? :thumbsup2

....EVERYTHING sounds better on pain meds. ;)

Very well put. We seem to have no overall consensus on a favorite this year like we have in the past, but we sure do have some strong opinions.

I did catch the lyric where she referred to herself as a "boy"

"..And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one "

'IF she had said "girl" I think it would've totally changed the meaning, she'd have to be more than a visitor to the HOUSE, more like a worker..:rolleyes1

The original lyrics were intended to be sung by a girl. Haley should have sung her song with "poor girl".

"There is a house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun.
It's been the ruin of many a poor girl and me, O God, for one.
If I had listened what Mama said, I'd be at home today.
Being so young and foolish, poor boy, let a rambler lead me astray.
Go tell my baby sister never do like I have done
To shun that house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun.
My mother she's a tailor, she sewed these new blue jeans.
My sweetheart, he's a drunkard, Lord, Lord, drinks down in New Orleans.
The only thing a drunkard needs is a suitcase and a trunk.
The only time he's satisfied is when he's on a drunk.
Fills his glasses to the brim, passes them around.
Only pleasure he gets out of life is hoboin' from town to town.
One foot is on the platform and the other one on the train.
I'm going back to New Orleans to wear that ball and chain.
Going back to New Orleans, my race is almost run.
Going back to spend the rest of my days beneath that Rising Sun."

"House of the Rising Sun" lyrics sung by The Animals.

"There is a house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy and God, I know I'm one.
My mother was a tailor, sewed my new blue jeans,
My father was a gambling man down in New Orleans.
Now the only thing a gambler needs is a suitcase and a trunk
And the only time he's satisfied is when he's on a drunk.
Oh mothers tell your children not to do what I have done,
Spend your life in sin and misery in the House of the Rising Sun.
Well, I've got one foot on the platform, the other foot on the train
And I'm going back to New Orleans to wear that ball and chain.
Well, there is a house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy and God, I know I'm one."

What you're implying, though, is that his producers are going to pressure him to "sell out". I don't disagree, but then he wouldn't be doing what he's doing now.

AMEN:worship:

I think AI tries to get a variety of people who will appeal to different kinds of people and oh boy did they do it this year!

Uh... vomit smilie anyone..... Perfect example of different strokes for different strokes. :confused3

Abso-friggen-lutely. That's what happens when you're an artist with such broad appeal.

This is ONE broad she doesn't appeal to...

Like I always say, just because there are more of them than of me doesn't make it good to everyone.

My teenage DGDs love country, but not Scotty...too cheesy and OVERRATED.

And, Carrie..I'm still shocked, over her success. She has great vocals, but soooo boring. The right marketing goes along way.;)
