American Idol: Season 10 PART III

yep...when James began singing and Scotty and Lauren were looking at him, giving him his final moment, Haley was smiling right into the camera making sure she was in focus. Again, all about her. Her town is about 20 miles from me, and they aren't even hosting her homecoming, (claiming cost reasons) at least according to the town of Wheeling where she is from. She will be singing at the race track nearby. Well, I guess I am pulling for Lauren..she sang the crap out of Haley in their duet tonight...and Lauren didn't have to have a hissy fit to get her votes.

Another Chicago person here that won't be attending or buying anything from Haley or as I call her "the grunter". She has been my least favorite this whole season. It is a shame James was sent home. The voting process HAS to change!

PS: Your tag says one day your driver's license will say Florida Resident one day....mine will in 4 weeks!:dance3:

Just going to weigh in quickly...

Glad Haley is safe :thumbsup2
Really sad to see James go
Not interested in "Country Idol" :headache:
Scotty's crazyeyes glances make me feel embarrassed for him

Ugh. Not the top 3 I was hoping for, and since two of the three finalists have no appeal for me and all three are as boring as watching paint dry, I can only hope that Lauren takes it all.

What an incredibly weak "finale" show it will be this year. Not a one of those three is capable of the kind of performance James was...and while some may sing better, they simply don't stack up from the performance point of view. It worked for Carrie Underwood in the end so maybe it will work for whomever wins too, but for me, I'm saddened and very disappointed.

Oh well.

It's been rigged from the beginning- they wanted/needed a girl to win, no matter the talent that was sent packing.

But I could say exactly the same thing about Lauren here. Haley looks very concerned and Lauren is just all big smiles making it look like it is just all about her and she doesn't care about James' feelings.

I would imagine that both girls felt very badly about their fellow contestants but very relieved that they were continuing on.

I would have no clue what is going through anyone's mind at that particular moment. We don't know if a joke was made..or maybe someone tooted. LOL. Maybe they are thrilled and are having a "haha, I'm here and you're not" moment. :confused3 I'm thinking if it was me I'd be jumping up and down but would get sad pretty fast since I am a big wuss and if someone else starts to cry I just join right in.

Next Week:

Next week, the top 3 will perform songs picked by the judges & Jimmy Iovine, and individual choice.

Results show performances by II Volo, Nicole Scherzinger, and 50 cent

Still post op and in a lot of pain. I spent most of the show in the bathroom which seemed like I got the better end of the deal.

Not happy about Haley.

I needed mental floss after Stevens video. Dds said it was creepy his insinuating. What he was with girls who could be his granddaughters. And the whole topless bit, it was all quite degrading to women.

Yep, my one and only season to watch unless they get real judges.

ACK!!! We have to endure Growl-y Girl for yet another week. I had hoped she would be gone weeks ago. Don't like her voice, rarely like her song choice and I think she has a terminal case of "My stuff don't stink."

I was no huge fan of James, but he should have been in the top three instead of Howly.....um, Haley.

Well, I'm quite happy with the top three. Like many here dislike Haley, I disliked James quite a bit. I really don't think I liked a single thing he did this whole season.

I think Scotty's quite charismatic and I think he can sing (I just wish he would drop the silly mannerisms). I like Lauren as well, but I kind of wish she had waited two more years to try out. I think her "Anyway" on Wednesday night may have been her best performance yet really showcasing her voice. And Haley came on strong here at the end. I honestly don't care which one of them wins at this point...now that James is out, I don't care who takes the prize.

Admittedly, I don't ever vote, but I threw about 50 votes Haley's way last night simply because I felt like she was wrongly critiqued (or, more accurately, wrongly critiqued while others never received the same criticism). That said, I won't be picking up the phone next week (unless someone does something really amazing). I'm happy with the top three (although it would've been nice to be ogling Pia at this point still).

I don't hold it against the contestants for smiling on the results show. They must be happy to advance. Despite how close they appear to be to each other, it is still a competition.

The results are not unexpected. James did, as he alluded to himself, things that had never been done (well) on AI prior. He appeals to a segment of the public that in the past, and to a great extent still, eschews AI. So essentially had to survive week-to-week without the advantages that Scotty has, i.e., a large, embedded base of voters who were just looking to vote for the best of the singers of a specific sort (personally, not necessarily musically).

In a way, this mirrors Billboard, where they have a Hot 100 chart, and then a set of genre-specific charts, including the Rock chart: I think it is clear that James is this year's "Rock Idol", i.e., the winner of what could conceptually be considered AI's Rock competition. That does mean, however, that he can't claim the "Pop Idol" crown (i.e., analogous to the Hot 100).

I think Scotty will win, in the end, and that's puzzling and a bit disappointing. While I do expect him to show well on the country charts, his songs will never top Billboard's Hot 100 chart. (And before anyone replies: They don't "need" to.)

I think it is unfortunate how things have gone down, though - this is going to be 2006 all over again, with some musically niche-oriented guy winning based on an embedded voting bloc of folks who are going to vote for a certain type of guy, no matter what. Second place will go to a gal who is a good fit for "runner-up", someone who either exudes sex appeal or girl-next-door charm, and, of course, McPhee provided both. Note that neither of these positions have anything to do with musicality.

That's not to say that any of these people aren't talented. The entire Top 4 are all worthy of winning American Idol. It's just that once we get to Top 4, there is no longer any competition for the votes of the big voting blocs, and there simply aren't enough spots under the big voting bloc's chosen picks for the singers who were getting by on just their talent.

The main difference between this year and 2006 is, as I alluded to above, that Katherine McPhee has essentially been split in half. For that matter, so has Kellie Pickler. The parallel gives me hope: James was eliminated in the "Chris Daughtry slot". He's clearly the Chris Daughtry of this year, with as much potential as Daughtry imho. If he goes on from here to have the same post-AI experience as Daughtry did, then it is all for-the-good, eh?

And if either Lauren or Haley win, I'll be rather surprised. And very happy. Because either of them could have a career that would be much more likely one that I would personally follow, and enjoy the fruits of.

I felt the same way about that video. I get that the videos are mostly viewed by young people but come on, Steven Tyler looks (and is) ancient, and they use a model who looks about 17? Couldn't they find a sexy 40 year old woman? Man I must be getting old, LOL!!! :sad2:

not when they announced James name, but when Ryan gave him the mic to sing, and they panned over to the 3 fnalists..at which time Lauren and Scotty focused on James, after all it was his moment, but Haley was looking at the camera, smiling. My DS actually pointed it out to me...then I rewatched it and sure enough that what she did.

And....

The show really needs to look at their voting process. Too many good singers are voted off way to soon. This show has turned me off so many times. They need to make it a singing competition not a popularity contest. Haley stays and James goes? Really. They lost me at Pia.

I still think Pia asked to leave. That week on Dial Idol she was sitting at number 2. There is no way she was "voted" off-especially with the recording contract announced a day later.

And anyone who believes that the votes decides who stays or leaves knows nothing about this business.

And it IS a business.

Exactly--people forget that this isn't so much a 'talent' contest but a "who's the best person for American Idol" contest. Casey is very musically talented but he is NOT Tiger Beat material-which is pretty much what they are looking for.

Hailey thinks she has it won--Just look at her face when she talks or when her name is announced when she hasn't been voted off, etc. Just wait for next week when she IS voted off...:rolleyes1

And she's a spoiled brat. :lmao: sorry, maybe that's not what the OP meant, but that's what I get from her. She just wants her camera time. She doesn't care about the other contestants at all, just herself.

This season of AI has been crazy to me. Casey and James went home too early. Jacob stayed way too long and how is Scotty still in this? :confused3 And Hayley has just started to get on my nerves so hopefully she will not win the whole thing. I've been rooting for Lauren the whole time so I'm super glad that she is in the final 3!!!! :goodvibes

and what?

she's a train wreck waiting to happen. Wait, it has happened already, weekly. Once they dumped Pia, they put Haley in hot clothes, told her to work it and begged her to try and find a song to suit that constipated growl she insists on doing. Again, if these 3 are the cream of the crop, AI = Fail.

and yeah, like hulagirl said, brat comes to mind
anyone else notice that Haley didn't have as many loving Skype moments to show on the clip? again AI editing, but just sayin'

I was very surprised to see James go home, it should have been Haley. No, she should have gone home weeks ago!!!

I want Lauren to win, yet I don't. If she doesn't win she can put out the music she wants to, not what Idol wants her to do. But of the 3 going to the finals, she's my favorite.

I really wish they would change the way the voting is done. Have it be one vote per phone number. That way, you vote for your favorite. You're not going to waste your vote on something stupid like "voting for the worst".

We fast-forwarded through everything last night, so it took about 5 actual minutes to watch the show. Didn't care to hear any of the guest singers, although I was looking forward to hearing Jordin but ended up FF through her song too. :( Didn't even watch all of Steven's video.

I felt bad for James, but thought he took the news fairly well. I was disappointed the show ran overtime, didn't get to hear James' whole song. I hate it when they have so many guest singers that they rush through the last part of the show, and even worse when it goes overtime. :(
