AMAZING RACE 5 - Official Thread

Colin did steal the spotlight from everyone else. He talked about how it was editing that made him look so bad, he is NOT like that at all and how he is the luckiest guy in the world to have such a beautiful, smart woman who puts up with him (I thought he just said he wasn't like the way he was portrayed). Harry was egging on Brandon to see if he had a marriage proposal on his mind. Brandon said, he didn't have a ring. Not enough time was spent with the bowling moms. Linda felt climbing the wall was a great accomplishment and Karen, the talker, more or less said they had a great time and they were happy where they finished and their kids thought they did a great job. All agreed the show lives up to its name, the AMAZING Race. I thought they were going to ask Chip how they were going to spend the money, either I missed it or time didn't allow with Colin proposing.

I am so impressed and proud of Linda - climbing that wall must have been exhausting! But she finished!

So happy for Chip & Kim - I was gonna be so mad if Colin & Christie won. Isn't it just like Colin to take the spotlight away from Chip & Kim! I had about had it with Brandon and his "praise Jesus!" routine. I, too, was exhausted by the end of the race!

Having watched all the episodes, I really wish they would make some changes next time.

What always upset me was how they managed to bunch everyone up at an airport and take away any hard-fought for leads.

Last night, C&C worked hard getting up the hill, down to the luge and got it done. Nicole had that breakdown on the bikes and chip could barely make it up the hill. But in the end it really didn't matter as they all (as the producer's surely knew) couldn't catch a flight until the next day. There was no reward for doing the activities well. This same scenario was repeated many times during the race. The winners get to leave the pit stop first but always have to wait for something to open, giving everyone a chance to catch up.

I'ld like them to introduce a check point at the airports. the people who arrive after the first are given a time delay equal to the time they are behind arriving at the airport. This delay would be serverd on the other end and the delay starts as soon as the first people team arrives at the destination.

For example, if Chip arrived 1 hour behind Colin at the airport, he would have had to server a 1 hour delay upon getting to dallas. Since he got there first, the delay would start as soon as he reached the destination check point.

I thought it was too unfair to everyone to have their leads sucked away after working hard to get them.

broken8ball, wouldn't your plan almost guarantee whoever won the very first leg at the beginning of the race win the very last leg of the race (the finale). I think the "unknowns", make the race an even level playing field for everyone, the weak and the strong. I do see where improvements could be made. I don't like the yield and if it is used, the user should remain anonymous. Bring back the fast forward.

It wouldn't make for good TV. C/C could build up an 8 hour lead on the other teams - you know they are going to win in week 3 - why watch? The other problem with that set up would be production, Phil would have to be in front of the lead team constantly - who would greet the teams behind them?

The way it is set up now - it's handicapped (like golf), if you are a weaker team - the airports can help you compete with the stronger teams, eventually the stronger teams should make it to the end - if Chip/Kim didn't catch the break with the last flight - C/C would have beat them handily the last leg. As long as you're able to do the tasks in between flights well and quickly - and with a little luck you'll hang around til the end.

ITA! I didn't like the yield either. The fast forward is much better IMO.

I'm so glad Chip and Kim won! Finally the team I rooted for from the beginning won! Never happened before. It doesn't surprise me that Colin proposed to Christie on TV. And her behavior in the last couple episodes was awful, telling their jeepny driver to run over pedestrians and that the other teams cheated because they yielded them?!! Throwing her little fits because they weren't in first place anymore. As far as I'm concerned, she and Colin deserve each other. I know it was edited to make Colin look bad, but if he hadn't had so many meltdowns, they wouldn't have had so much material to work with.

I was really sad the moms lost, they were my second favorite team. But, they did an awesome job the whole race, especially the climbing thing at the end. I could have never done that!
Can't wait for AR6!!!

Anyone else find it interesting they had a dashboard camera set up in C/C's towncar? That driver was crazy, but it almost felt a little too planned, I mean what do you do, call a car service and say I want your fastest driver who isn't afraid to break most traffic laws in getting me from one place to another??

It was at the end of the interview! They said they plan to tithe to their church first, and pay off some debt - something about the last two years being bad financially. It was at the very tail end with other noise going on so I'm not sure of the exact words.

I too was so glad C&K won!
It was so cool having it end in Dallas. You can see the final stop out my office window and I never knew this was going on.
Based on the unattractiveness of the landscaping it had to have been some time in winter. I can't believe I had no clue!
Yes, the traffic can be that bad in Dallas, Taxicabs do not drive on the shoulder (at least none I have ever seen here), and Dallas is much more pretty than it showed. Dallas in winter is not the most flattering.

I have not seen it mentioned but I thought it was classy of Chip to wear the Cafe Nostra t-shirts from the brother restaurant owner team. Gave them some advertising even after the brothers were off the show.

Thanks, travelbug24!

I like the way the hold ups in the airports level out the playing field. Makes it more exciting that way and gives some of the slower teams a chance to catch up. It would be boring to have someone far ahead all of the time.

Which brings me to the Yield. I like it, its all part of the game. If Colin and Kristie had not been yielded, they probably would have won. Even with the Yield, they still caught back up. I would like it to be anonymous though.

I liked the Fast Forward also. Remember the team that did it and it didn't help?

But I do think that the non-elimination rounds should have started appearing earlier in the show.

when did colin propose to christie?

I am glad that chip and kim won, but honestly I think colin and christie should have....I thought it was a brilliant move to call the town car and have it waiting. can't believe noone else has done that.

In the beginning I was cheering for C/C since my DS's name is Colin. :) But then as the game went on and Colin was shown to be so mean (may be editing...who knows) I stopped cheering for them. DH and I started cheering for C/K since they always were nice to the locals, generally nice to the others in the race, and seemed to really be enjoying themselves. I'm so happy "my team" finally won one of these reality shows!! I will admit, I did cringe when Chip lied to Brandon like that...but Brandon should have been looking for himself.

On the side note, I think the C/C's driver should get his license revoked. I wonder if Texas DMV can do that based on the footage.

We were HOPING that they'd be pulled over for driving on the shoulder...

Brandon & Nicole irritated me. It's nice to have faith and all, but it's a little self-serving to believe that God cares whether or not you win a race, while people in poor countries are starving.

So glad Chip and Kim won - she may have let him do most of the harder tasks, but she was ALWAYS encouraging him along the way. They enjoyed where they were, who they met, and what they did the whole way.

:bounce: They REALLLY deserved to win, as they really enjoyed themselves, and never made a bad comment on ANY of the Countries they were in.:o They didn't really fight with each other, which was nice, and they looked like they had a great time and WON!;)

Since C&C were not eliminated in the round in which the yield was used, it had no affect on the outcome of the race. C&C were first to the last airport, they just were unlucky with their flight being delayed.

My point about the airports was that luck like Chip & Kim had played too much into the race. They were way behind on the last leg but got to catch the other teams and win because of the airports.

I felt cheated last night and a couple other nights as well. They could have just sent the teams from the Phillipines to Dallas since nothing that happened in Calgary mattered anyway. What was the point? The challenges could not have altered the race in anyway the way it was set up. As it was, no matter how a team did climbing the mountain or doing the luge/bike race, all the teams were flying out the next morning.

I liked the yields, I liked the way chip tried to fool Brandon and the way the moms took a chance instead of following C&C. All those things affected the race and changed the outcomes of a particular leg. The things in calgary were pointless as were winning many of the stages. You received no advantage for figuring out the clues or doing things better/faster/smarter than the other teams. A million dollars was awarded to one team based on their dumb luck. It feels like the time I invested in the show was wasted. It wasn't a challenge, it wasn't a race. It was dumb luck. They could have just drawn cards at the start and the would have been just as fair.

But luck happens to different teams at different times. What if C&C flight had not been delayed and it was full by the time C&K got there?

And I think Calgary DID affect the outcome. Because C&K were last they found out about the flight being delayed first and were then able to book the second best flight before it was sold out. If they were first and C&C were last they probably would have been in C&K position.

And C&C and B&N were lucky to get on the same first flight as C&K. If they had not checked their luggage they may have made it on the second flight as well.

I'm SOOO happy that Chip and Kim won!

They live in our community! They had parties every Tuesday night for the shows!

I don't know them but I'll be looking out for them in the grocery store!!!

:p

I have to disagree that it was just dumb luck. The fact that the flight was delayed could have been dealt with, had Colin and Christie or Brandon and Nicole gotten up early enough to get to the airport and check in. They also made a critical mistake in checking theor luggage, not allowing them to switch airlines. So there were advantages being played to those who were smarter for sure and equal disadvantages given to those who were not as smart.

Look at the flag challenege. Colin said that if they had picked up a guide book, they would haeve known which flag to look for. Normally they did, but this time they didn't. It hurt them for the short term.

For a while I held it against Kim for not participating in the challenges, but some said it earlier - if it was okay with Chip, then who are we to think otherwise? the great thing is that they won while be able to take the time to enjoy some of the places they travelled to.

He proposed while they were being interviewed on CBS This Morning earlier today. He got down on one knee and everything. Needless to say, she said yes.

Chip also said they are investing heavily in "Velocity Entertainment" or something like that. He said something about working with the guy who discovered Elton John and the Beach Boys. Hope they aren't getting scammed.

And on the subject of B&N, I think the editing made them look a little freakish as well. I am an evangelical Christian and pray about all kinds of little things. But I agree that Brandon seemed a little over the top at times. But again, editing 24+ hours down to a few minutes can lead to characterizations that just wouldn't pan out in real life.
