A couple of pages back someone said that they delayed the start until November now. :)

Brandon & Nicole irritated me. It's nice to have faith and all, but it's a little self-serving to believe that God cares whether or not you win a race, while people in poor countries are starving.

ITA. I loved how the producers threw in the scene where the heavens opened when Brandon said something like "Think of Jesus standing at the top of the hill with his arms open" and Nicole was able to climb the hill. Then, later when he invoked god again and failed the heavens clouded back up again :).

I have to say that my least favorite player was Nicole. She is very mean-tempered thoughout the race and didn't do much except tag along with Brandon. Last night's gloating when Chip was struggling was the last straw for me. I'm glad they came in third.

And on the subject of B&N, I think the editing made them look a little freakish as well. I am an evangelical Christian and pray about all kinds of little things. But I agree that Brandon seemed a little over the top at times. But again, editing 24+ hours down to a few minutes can lead to characterizations that just wouldn't pan out in real life.
I thought Brandon was a really good guy. He didn't take himself too seriously, and I think that's important. I wasn't too enamored with Nicole, though. But I'll give her a pass because I think she simply wore down faster than the resto of the contestants. She basically gave out completely in Alberta. Everyone except Colin looked very tired, but Nicole and whichever Mom did the rock climbing looked the worst.

Different question: How many of you didn't know what the word vertigo meant? I was shocked that most of the contestants didn't know the word, but I asked a couple of people at work and they didn't know either. Maybe it's not a common word among those people too young to remember the Hitchcock movie.

I knew what it was and I was suprised that somone that was as afraid of heights as Brandon didn't know what it was.

I'm so happy that Chip and Kim won. They really were the only ones who seemed to be enjoying themselves and really appreciating the experiences they were having and kept a cool head enabling them to finish in first.
I agree with others that the yield has got to go. I think the fast forward is much better.
By the way, was there a yield on the last show? I didn't see it. I thought there was suppose to be a yield on every leg.
I agree with others that having teams be able to catch up at airports (referred to by Team Guido as the Great Equalizer) definitely makes for a more exciting game. I think it would be so boring if a team was able to gain a whole day on every one else. There would be no drama.
I can't wait for AR6. I heard too that they have pushed back the starting date. I just hope they have it on earlier. I used to watch it with my daughter in years past, but with it being on at 10:00, it was just too late for her.

I didn't know that. Thanks!

So Colin proposed to Christie? Darn, I wish that I'd watched now! I wish them well.

That maze is pretty hard by the way. DS and I have gone through it a few times. It looked like Chip and Kim worked it out pretty fast but with editing who knows.

I was so excited that C&K won! Kim has been getting on my nerves a bit since she never does the challenges, but I love Chip! I have to admit, my DH and I were cheering "Go, Chip!" when he lied to Brandon. Brandon was just kicking back, letting Chip do all the work. He deserved it, IMO.

I seem to be in the minority in WANTING AR6 to be on Saturdays. My DH works evenings, every day but Thurs. and Sat. I've had to tape every episode of AR5, then watch it when he gets home. I'm already taping so many things for him.. I don't want to watch it while I tape it, then have to watch again when he gets home, so I wait, which kills me. :p Plus, I also tape Law & Order: SVU at that time.. I was thrilled we'd be able to just watch AR6, since he's home on Saturdays. Grrr... :hyper:

Anyone else find it interesting they had a dashboard camera set up in C/C's towncar?
That's a very good question, and I would hope that for the integrity of the show to remain intact that it wasn't planned ahead of time. My guess is that since Colin called the night before, the show had time to send someone to Dallas, find the Town Car Service, and install the camera. They should have had about twelve hours, more or less, to do it.

I too was thrilled that Chip and Kim won! I wanted the Bowling Moms to come in at least second. This is one thing that I think should be changed in the future. I think that no matter if you are a couple (male/female, two males or two females) they should take turns in doing tasks, detours, etc. This way it would be more fair to the weaker teams (strengthwise). Example: Say Colin did the first task then Christie should do the next task, no matter what. It would just be the chance they would have to take in seeing what type of task they would have to do. This seems a little more fair, especially to an all female team when tasks such as climbing the side of cliffs come up to do. JMO.

I worked last night until 10 PM, so I had to wait for the show to get over before I could watch my tape. I ended up going to bed at 12:40 AM and then the alarm went off at 6 AM for my full-time job. But the show was worth staying up for!

Can't wait for the next race to start!

Janice:bounce:

I worked till 11 and then went home and watched American Chopper then American Hotrod and then finally watched AR finally I was up till about 3:30 or so and then got up with the kids at 6:30 and I am now back to work. It was well worth the loss of sleep though.

I think Brandon is a good guy too. I just think the editing made him seem like a "Jesus Freak" in a not flattering way.

I was also surprised that so many didn't seem to know what vertigo was. It didn't surprise me that B&N didn't know, but I would have thought the moms had a bigger vocabulary!

That would definately be a different twist to the game. An interesting one too. I wouldn't mind seeing that done sometime.

I agree, in the end the task just seem to be for a guys, then I said wait a minute, one of the moms have to do the task. (The girls paired with the guys should have had to do more tasks.

Brandon was very skeptical about doing the climbing task and he thought Nicole should do it. She even made a smart comment about Brandon doing all the tasks.

Did you see Chip smile when Kim read that they were on the Continental Divide. Chip has been truly a delight to watch. He was always in awe of his surroundings.

Just a heads up....Chip and Kim are going to be on Regis and Kelly tomorrow. Hopefully we'll learn more about their plans for the future!

We were sitting around at work (I work for a major airline... the one that was delayed in Calgary!:D ) discussing how the other two teams managed to make that flight to Denver (I think it was the one to Denver...). We decided the producers of the show probably paid to get volunteers off the plane to make room for the other other two teams. Otherwise the game would have been over, because no would would have had a chance to catch up with Chip and Kim.
Just speculating.

I always wondered in that situation where planes are full or overbooked, how they not only get 2 seats, but three, remember a camara man (or 2) go on that plane with them.

I thoroughly enjoyed Chip's reactions all throughout the race. Remember "I'm on the Nile River" with that huge grin. I am really pleased that they won!

I don't know. Everyone going into the race knows there are going to be difficult tasks along the way.

I am amazed at how far the bowling moms made it. They did great and I'm so proud of them.

My point about the airports was that luck like Chip & Kim had played too much into the race. They were way behind on the last leg but got to catch the other teams and win because of the airports.
Colin addressed the issue on the Early show and he said it was HIS mistake for not making reservations on EVERY airline carrier.

The taking turns for roadblocks, I don't agree with. My future daugher-in-law and I applied and we had already agreed who would do the tasks. I would do the eating tasks and she would do the swimming or biking tasks and I would do the ones involving heights and other ones we would decide at that time.

Chip and Kim are on now Regis and Kelly. They have been married for 20 years and together for 26 yrs. They have three children. It was Chip's idea to enter AR. They are AR fanatics and they are the oldest couple ever to win AR. Chip said the most difficult was the physical challenges getting his big 'ol butt up the ladder or up the wall. Chip is a former actor. He played Mohammed Ali in his youth in the movie "The Greatest" (and they showed a picture). Regis said he could play George Forman now.
