Am I the only weirdo that loves the laundromat?

I work at a preschool. We had a young man named Marcus who was obsessed with laundry. His birthday treat was going to the laundramat. His punishment was being banned from DOING the laundry. He could talk detergent and fabric softener like no one else.He was five at the time.
My middle son was just like that except he was obsessed with lawn mowers and blowers. My dad owned a landscape company so my son became obsessed with professional equipment. We even found him a toy blower and made an ExMark sticker for it lol

I do actually have a weird thrill going to the laundrymat when something breaks down. I'm like, oh yeah, I am going to get a massive amount of laundry done at one time!! lol

My very first job was in a laundromat, and it was relatively pleasant. I learned to fold from the best!

In college we went to one until we finally found a used mis-matched washer-dryer set for cheap money and set it up in the basement of the house we were living in. It was a relief because I felt like sitting in the laundromat was wasting time since I couldn't always get my work done there (pre computers).

We've also had some interesting laundry experiences while on vacation, especially on the Disney ships. We actually always picked a room near the laundry so we could pack less, and DH had it down to a science, late at night or super early in the morning, lol. We often also throw a load in in the laundry areas near the quiet pools at Disney. The Dolphin has a nice laundry set up, too.

I remember with travel baseball it was a challenge on the road after games trying to wash uniforms in hotel laundries - until they got to the age where they just didn't care anymore about wearing them dirty. Now, in college, they have to put their uniforms on a huge, oversized safety type pin to keep them all together when they wash them on the road. Fortunately (for all the other guests) they stay in condos that have washing machines in the rooms.

Our washer/dryer was next door(long story short- we own 2 houses, my mom lived there, she passed away, pipes broke, we didn't fix them), we do our laundry at the Laundromat, it's about 2 min away, it's well lit, about 80 washers /dryers, clean. We don't mind it at all, and actually prefer to do laundry there as it takes like 1.5-2 to do all of our laundry for the week. about $16.00 a week for it. We come home in between the washing/drying I'll take it. LOL

A friend told me about a place he used to go that was a combination laundromat and bar. You would start your laundry then head to the adjacent bar, with pub grub and sports on TVs and all. They even had lights on the wall to indicate when your laundry was done, so you could head back over to pop it into the dryer or fold your dry clothes. I can't remember where that was, but it seemed ingenious to me.

We had one of these in college. It was great because the bill would read as the laundromat and our parents would think we we're just getting our clothes REALLLY clean. After graduation they figured out that most of those bills were beers. I don't think the place exists anymore.

Haven’t been to one in years. I do love the smell of fresh clean laundry. However, as somewhat of a germophobe, I can’t help but think about whose clothes were in those machines before mine and what disgusting substances were on those clothes.
