I will try and keep this short and sweet.
We are putting in a fence and we bid the job out with 4 companies. My husband chose the company and we placed that order. That was 3 1/2 weeks ago. To me, waiting 3 1/2 weeks for the materials seems a bit crazy but I went with it. My husband said they said it would take 2 weeks to get the materials.
They were supposed to come out today at 8:30 and install the fence saying they would most likely be able to get it done all in one day but it may take a day and a half. I was OK with the extra 1/2 day because I was just really excited about getting the fence. We have two dogs that we are having to take out on the leash everytime they want to go out. It gets old and I am 7 months pregnant and not really feeling like climbing the stairs for this anymore. So today they show up at their scheduled time and start to drill the holes. In doing this they drilled into 2 of our sprinkler lines which my husband says is to be expected. Ok - whatever. They they discover that oh no, they have the wrong fence posts. They have to call the shop and see if they have the right size in stock.
Well, we get an e-mail from the owner saying they ordered the correct size posts but they were sent an incorrect size by the manufactuer and they will be out in another 7-10 days to install the fence with the correct posts. I am NOT cool with this AT ALL. I don't care what happened and who is at fault. I am not at fault because someone else screwed up! They act like it is no big deal!
First of all, you should double check your orders when they come in to make sure they are correct. Second of all, now I have to wait another week to week and a half to get my fence? To me, this is completely unacceptable and I think that we should get some money off the fence. My husband thinks that I am overreacting and just simply says "what are you going to do?" and "it is what it is". That makes me even more mad that he is so willing to let it slide as if it is no big deal. IT IS a big deal!
So please tell me, am I irrational for expecting a discount on the fence now after all this? I mean, I already waited over a week longer than they said it would take to get the materials in! I told my husband to let me know the guys e-mail because I was going to e-mail him about it. But I want to make sure that I am not actng irrational about it.
