Always back to the fort

My kids are getting older now, one has moved out and another will leave within the year.

So we were looking at booking a WDW trip for 2016. My kids think hotels are so awesome and really wanted to stay at a Disney hotel on our next trip instead of yet another camping trip. But I've crunched the numbers and it just doesn't make sense to stay anywhere else on property. We don't do the DDP because it's too much food even for my houseful of teens. And we all like space to breathe. And my biggest issue is location, location, location. I can't imagine staying at a value resort and being so far from MK. My favorite mode of transportation is the boat to MK. So yep, looks like when the whole family comes back next year we'll be back at the fort.

And my daughter and I are doing a trip this November and staying at a hotel, honestly I don't think I'll enjoy it as much as I do staying at the fort.

My reply in those situations is, "kids, when YOU can afford to pay for a hotel, be my guest. Let me and your mom know the dates so we can crash with you for a few days".

I showed them the cost and I showed them the maps with travel time. They all agreed that the Fort is waaaaaaay better.

I can't imagine staying at a value resort and being so far from MK. My favorite mode of transportation is the boat to MK.

Totally agree. If we don't do a camper or cabin at the Fort, we try to do Wilderness Lodge when it's got a decent enough Florida Resident or Passholder discount. The boat rides over to the MK are one of our favorite things!

We agree that the Fort is the best! We have stayed at POR and while the resort is beautiful, we found ourselves missing the Fort, which just feels like home! My husband and I are doing a trip in November and we are staying at POFQ. I am so concerned about missing the Fort that we might just go over and visit!!

I think for our November trip we are going to plan to come over and have dinner at Trail's End.

And good news my husband told me to book a trip for fall 2016, now I just have to figure out the best time for us. I showed him the cost compared to other resorts and he said "oh just book the fort"

This is my reply too. I often get the "I don't want to do that.... (fill in the blank)" and my response is "Then Don't. Your mother and I are doing this and you can feel free to stay at home and do nothing, but this is what we are doing." Of course we would never let our DD10 stay at home alone but she gets the point.

It's amazing the response when you put the onus of planning and costs on them. The younger one still thinks that it's easy, just put it on the card but doesn't fully realize what it means to use the card. Older one, now working, is slowly learning especially as she has to start paying school bills (books, fees, etc..)
