My husband does not want to rent the tux for the formal dinner's on the 7-night Western. Would he be all right in a pair of Levi Dockers with a sport coat?:bounce:

You'll see a little bit of everything...tuxes, tuxes with tails, evening jackets, suits, sport coats, even people who don't seem to be dressed up at all.:(

That said, I personally think that a dark suit would be more appropriate than Dockers and a sports jacket.

Does he have a suit? Would he consider buying one? The tuxedo rental fee would go pretty far toward a suit! It's a nice thing to have, for weddings and such. I think most men feel better in something they own anyway. :)

My husband wouldn't feel comfortable in a sport coat & khakis if others were wearing tuxedos, but it's personal thing. He doesn't have to dress up for work so it's a special thing for him. I haven't been on the 7 day DCL cruise, but I keep hearing that people do not get as formal as they do on other cruise lines (where many people wear tuxes or dark suits).

I agree with Gillian. My DH would not feel comfortable on wearing something casual like that when everyone is dressing up. Like Gillian said "its a personal thing". I am planning on buying my husband a dark suit due to this would not be our only cruise. Right now I am considering doing 2 cruises (HAL and DCL) so the money I put into this suit will pay off.

Because of a special occasion that we are celebrating I am keen to wear a tux with tails as you call it - which we call morning dress over here in the UK. I note that cruiselineformal.com don't have appear to have them available for rental. Travelling over from Europe I would much prefer to rent in the USA rather than pack one from over here.

Does anyone know of a rental outlet which is convenient for DCL where I could get a tux with tails?

Regards

If your husband doesn't want to wear a tux (and many men don't) how about a dark suit? My husband, like Gillian's and Minbear's, wouldn't feel comfortable in Dockers and a sport coat on formal night but that's him. He wears a dark suit but is contemplating buying a tux since we're booked on an RCCL cruise this summer and Disney in June 2004. HTH

Personally, I hate wearing tux and suits. But, I always wear, at least, a dark business suit or a dinner jacket on formal nights. I think it's a common courtesy to dress in attires that's appropriate for the occasion. It also shows respect to the host and other guests. I've seen and known of too many selfish & self-important people who decided they are above everyone else so they don't need to dress up. In reality, it only demonstrates their inconsiderate nature and protray themselves as uncivilized morons. I only feel contempt for them.

I'll step off my soap box now. I can feel the flames already...
 :p

All flames aside, most of the guys on our cruise wore dark suits, and the casually dressed guys really did stand out and therefore may have been more uncomfortable than they expected to be. Dark suits blend in more. The ladies have more leeway, as long as they wear something pretty. It's really not "anything goes."

As a side note to this, you can get a very nice Tux on ebay (oscar d., lauren, palm beach, etc) for under 50.00 (more like 40.00), I just did a search and got over 3,000 hits. I got a very nice Lauren last year for 34.00 (less shirt). You can't rent one for that price.
