ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

We have stayed at the Poly before and absolutely LOVE the resort :lovestruc. We are booked for our first Poly CL stay in December (which I'm very excited about), but I have been reading alot of reviews about the food not being replenished, the CMs less than accommodating, dishes not cleaned off the tables, etc. I can't wait to try CL there (have stayed WL CL, GF SL, & GF RPC), but I'm a little nervous about the negative reviews I've been reading regarding the lounge and food offerings. I would appreciate any input/opinions anyone can give ;).

We just stayed CL as of September 9-18th and never had a problem with any of the lounge CM's. Actually, Jake is fantastic if you are lucky enough to run into him. The food was always well stocked unless you came really close as to when they were shutting down that particular service. I never saw the lounge dirty and things were cleared pretty quickly. If there is anything that you are wanting, ask. My son is a total root beer nut and Jake was nice enough to get a supply for the length of our trip. They were also nice enough to stock soy milk for my two girls. Both vanilla and chocolate. They were super sweet about it.

We were in the lounge almost every morning for a light breakfast and then again for dessert late nights and it was always clean and the CM's were pleasant. I really would not be worried if I were you. And do try the little passion fruit tartlet. SO good! :lovestruc

Love Poly CL:goodvibes. We'll be there in less than 2 weeks:cool1:One of my favorite things to do is sit in the lounge at the end of the day with a glass of the punch that is served:cloud9:

That sounds so heavenly :cloud9:.

Thank you :). It's nice to hear about a great stay that was just completed :goodvibes. I keep telling myself that I should take my own advice....LOL. I'm always telling others to take reviews with a grain of salt because every resort has it's good and bad reviews and everybody's opinions are different. I knew I could come here and get some great reviews.....thanks again :goodvibes.

I ♥ the punch  I even have the recipe, but for some reason it always tastes better at the resort ... 16 days until we arrive at the Poly :thumbsup2

We checked into the Grand today and within an hour I was at the front desk begging to go back to the Poly. The only availability is a GV room so we are stuck here. I wonder what's going on down here this week. It is quite crowded and both thePoly and Grand are at almost 100% capacity. :confused3

We returned from our 2nd stay at the Poly about a couple of weeks ago...already looking forward to going back for our next trip. At least I can go through my pictures and remember the great time we had!

At the Poly now & wanted to share a few random observations: mousekeeping-the best we've ever had! We've never had any issues w/ it before, but this trip has been superb in that regard. Yesterday my DD17 was sick-at home-& we didn't leave the room till noon as I was on phone w/ her, the MD, my sister who was assessing the situation so we knew whether to hop on a plane...anyway, at noon-ish when things seemed under control we left to go grab a quick bite @ Cap Cooks & Mousekeeping did up our room right away. So nice.
Cap Cook's-we've never used beyond a few snacks but yesterday's pulled pork sandwich was delicious. Maybe it tasted xtra good cause things seemed under control at home but it sure was good!
Pool-have not seen any KTTW card checking but it has not been uber crowded. Crowded, for sure, but you could still get a chair & do some pool-frolicking.
In sum, the Poly is awesome as always!!

Thanks.....and I hope you and your family have a great Christmas trip as well :santa:. What dates will you be there? We will be there 12/19-12/23. I have two in high school and their Christmas break doesn't start until 12/22, so I didn't have much to work with as far as dates in order to keep them from missing too much school. My youngest doesn't like to miss more than a day or two at a time (which I understand) and neither one wants to be gone over Christmas Day, so we decided to come home 12/23. That will actually give me time to get situated back home before Christmas Day :goodvibes. It seemed so far away when I first booked back in February, but it's not that far away now......it will be here in no time :yay:.

We will be there the 16th and departing on the 24th. It will be here in no time and I'm hopeful to be organized enough before we leave to be able to come home and begin the holiday! I'm hoping leaving the Poly but still coming home for Christmas will 'ease' the sting of wishing we could stay at the Poly forever. :goodvibes

I just completed our online check-in!!! It's getting so close. I am getting worried since I checked online yesterday and there was NO availability at the Poly.:headache: Crowd calendars have gone slightly up as well. This should be interesting....

Isn't there a marathon coming up next weekend? Maybe some people are coming in this weekend and staying the week. We are not fans of the GF either....personally I would take GV at the Poly over the Grand.

We were in Niue 1704 GV and we loved the location and view...so much so...that the youngest DD went and booked us to stay on Friday night as well...so we stayed an extra night :cool1:

YAY! I wish I only had 30 days - well, not really, I have SO much to make and do for my trip. I am NOWHERE near ready! lol

I didn't realize we were going so close together again! We'll be checking in at the Poly on the 3rd (after two nights at WL). Maybe we'll run into each other this time. :thumbsup2

I'm sorry there wasn't availability at the Poly . I'm sure you will have a wonderful time.....the GF is a nice resort. But with that said, I do understand!!!! I've stayed at the GF 3 times......2 girls trips - GF was chosen by majority; and our family trip last December so my DH and DSs could try it. On all 3 trips I missed the Poly. I think the GF is a beautiful resort and all 3 stays were wonderful, but there's just something about the Poly that makes it my favorite :lovestruc.

I'm sorry your DD was sick at home, but glad your sis has everything under control and I hope your DD is feeling better :flower3:. Glad you're having a great time and enjoying the Poly....I can't wait to be there in December. We love Captain Cooks.....it's our oldest DS's favorite resort CS.

:goodvibes

Maybe we will bump into each other in the lounge. Those are my thoughts as well about being organized enough for Christmas. We were originally coming home the 24th, but had to change due to pet boarding. The place we board is closed Christmas Eve, so it was either come home a day early or leave our lab until Monday, which was not an option for me......I couldn't come home and not get him right away. It will be a short trip this time, but a few days at the Poly is better than no days at the Poly :goodvibes.

How exciting :yay:. I can't wait to be so close to going.....although I know it will be here in no time and I will be wishing I had more time.....LOL.

These are my thoughts too......I'd love be going next month, but I also have alot to do before we go.

We just got back from the Poly and just wanted to let everyone know that it was wonderful...just as we remembered :thumbsup2

The last time we went to WDW all together was in Dec 2005, we had to stay at the CBR as we could not afford the Poly due to our house being destroyed by Katrina....we went for Christmas because the house was inhabitable

the DDs had only stayed at the Poly prior...and it was not the same staying at the CBR...so this trip was our welcome back to "our Poly" trip.... and it was great....:goodvibes

You just can't beat the Polynesian :)

Just got back from our first family trip to the Poly, and it was AMAZING!!!! We got upgraded to CL (it was our anniversary), and I almost cried when they told me! We always stay at POP, so this was a huge upgrade to begin with just staying in a GV room. My husband has always been against expensive vacations, so POP was about all I could get him to agree to.

We weren't there 5 minutes when he told me he will never take a vacation again unless it's CL at the Poly, he's ruined!

The Poly definitely lived up to all I had dreamed and then some. Can't wait til next year!!!! DD and I are taking a mini trip in January, a gift from my mom. We are staying at POFQ, but I am afraid it will fall well short of our beloved Polynesian!

We seem to be on the same vacation schedule! We will be at the pool every day and hopefully staying in Samoa....years ago I still think we chatted on the bus. We are checking in on the 5th at around 8 pm. With the Poly packed I'm worried we are going to get a crappy room (hard I know).

By the way....I can finally post....single digit dance FINALLY!!!!!:love::banana::banana::banana::banana::wizard:
Banana Cabana Dance!

How very wonderful and congratulations on the surprise upgrade!! That's really a nice surprise. :cheer2::cheer2: We have never stayed at the Poly as a family- I did once as a little girl way back some time ago but I can still remember how beautiful a place it was. We have made many trips to WDW- 7 I believe now and have yet to get back. Cost is one big reason...just couldnt afford it that is why I am so exicted to be going next year. My daughter graduates from college and it is my husbands and my 25th Anniversary....suppose I might get an upgrade? Probably not as we are going in June- prime season. Oh well one can only dream.....I am so enjoying reading all these posts and it gets me so exicted for what is coming next year. Hope everyone has a great day!!!
