ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

8 more days for us! We check in on the 23rd and out the 30th. Now I am hearing that there might be 'special' things happening in the parks on Oct. 1st though! I am wondering if we should extend our stay...it would be two extra nights and an extra day of park admission, and an extra day of meals....so I don't know if whatever will be "special" will be worth that much extra (if we could even get a room)

For anyone that has stayed 1st floor Hawaii, TPV: if the beach in front of Hawaii is crowded for fireworks, and you are sitting on your patio, are the crowds in your way?

We were there a couple of weeks ago and the beach was never crowded :)

Happy Vacation to everyone there right now and everyone going so soon! Illness and work have me bashing my head against the wall......needed a little moment to check-in and day dream. I brought my laptop with me to my back to back meetings today PRAYING to check in to the DIS but no such luck....morons kept my attention....I need a break from morons....maybe WDW isn't the best place for me to be heading (minus my DISboard friends)! :rolleyes1:headache::rolleyes1:headache::rolleyes1:headache::rolleyes1:headache::rolleyes1

I'd take a Disney moron over a work moron any day. At least I'm at Disney and not at work :lmao:

So last night I was boring my DH with all my planning and details and he actually said to me 'Don't forget to request a ground floor room.' I was speechless. I mean, of course I wouldn't forget but DH said SOMETHING about our vacation. He actually requested something OTHER than the pool and beer (standard vacation request from him). I'm just astounded! And happy because it's about as much excitement as I'll get from him!

What's up with these men? Don't want to be involved with the actual planning, but full of "helpful" suggestions. My DH just tells me to do what I want and let him know, but of course once we are there it's "why didn't you " insert anything here.... lol

OK...I am going to thank my DBF for actually enjoying how excited I get with trip planning. I say "time to check the Boards", & he sits down near w/ the spreadsheet, books, maps, etc. Ready to assist! Guess I'm lucky!

Yes, I will take a Disney Moron over a work one any day and every day!!!

As for DH - congratulations! Anytime my DH acknowledges a WDW conversation I have to plan my words wisely, because the attention span won't last long. Yet when we get there...what's planned???

One year, while staying at a moderate they put us in the boo-foo(sp?) I was only on 2 hours of sleep because of a bad asthma attack and then traveled all morning hours without a bite to eat = moody. Anyway, I nicely looked at the CM and stated "No offense, but we are here for 10 days with 3 kids. I'm am going to lean on this counter so it can hold me up while we figure out another room because I'm not making that walk every day to get milk for my little one."

DH turned to my older DD and said..."God I love your Mom!" These are the times he really appreciates my planning....and yes I had put in my room requests in order of preference and NONE were met. That was my other statement to them....come on at least meet one of the three.

:rotfl2:Right there with you.....

While my DH doesn't get involved in the planning (probably better that way) -he is as excited once we arrive and is always thankful for my planning. He always says he has to make decisions EVERY day at work so he'd rather I make the decisions for the trip! Works for me :thumbsup2

Chilly morning here in Michigan too!! Yikes. So glad I'll be in warm/sunny Florida in a little more than 48 hours!! :) I won't even complain if it's humid ;)

Our temps have been all over the place here in Jersey but I could care less since we only have 2 more days till our 1st Poly stay! The kids are super excited and as always so am I. I too have an uninvolved DH but I prefer it that way. I get to decide what and when we do everything and he is just happy to be there! :thumbsup2

Love all the DH / DBF comments. No matter how they are pre-trip, it's nice that they all go with us and enjoy the time while we are there. In fact, DH is excited (oh, that means he blinked when I talked to him :rotfl:) about the extra activities. He likes to rest on vacation and that doesn't always happen at Disney so we are planning some down time including a cabana rental. I told him there was a TV in it and THAT got him excited! Cushiony lounge chairs, a tv, pool and beer with a personal attendant - it was like his vision of heaven :cloud9:

And he requested Ohana and Le Cellier. Thank goodness I already booked them because he says these things like I can magically make them happen!

So for those that have stayed in a Cabana, will the personal attendant get drinks from the pool bar for you?

A few years ago, the Poly had pool attendants that would bring you drinks from the pool bar and we really liked that! I was so bummed when they took them away.

Just loved your post about your husband, funny mine is the same way....already telling me what "NOT" to forget, lol!! This will be our 1st Poly stay as family and geez my kids are nearly grown with 1 getting ready to graduate from college and 1 that just started high school! It has been since 2004 our last trip to WDW and it was a short one. Need less to say I cant wait....to share this time as a family again will be the best time ever! I am trying to think of something special to do for my daughter Sarah's college graduation and our 25th Anniversary...any suggestions?? Hope everyone has a great day!!

You are very lucky, my husband says "just tell me when and where", never says a word.

Mine too! When I put his suitcase on the bed he knows it is time to start packing. I remind him of a few things to pack but mostly he is on his own. He has even stopped questioning any Disney related charges on the CC :thumbsup2

Although I do have to add that he is the one that always insist that we have a meal in the castle. Frankly, DD and I could pass but he likes it. :lmao: I tease him that he has the hots for the princesses :rotfl:

These comments are cracking me up:lmao: My DH loves Disney as much as me, but his biggest part of our trip planning comes when it's finally time to pack the suitcases. I usually get all my stuff organized and then both kids outfits figured out and ziplocked up (so they just grab a bag each morning), then I tell DH - "okay, make it all fit"!!! I tease that he is my Master of Space - whether its packing the suitcases, the car, or getting all the groceries to fit in the refrigerator / freezer. And he always gets it done!

Meanwhile I sit here at work with 1 1/2 days to go, reading the boards to make sure I'm fully prepared and haven't missed any 'breaking news' that may affect our plans so I'll know when to zig when "they" zag!! I'm getting absolutely nothing done (for work) but keep that between all of us :goodvibes

I have a huge favor for anyone heading to the Poly soon :flower3:

Could you check out the Halloween merchandise that is for sale? In the past it has been located upstairs by Trader Jacks. Pics would be awesome!:worship:

I am having the IPO pick up a few things for DD for a Welcome gift and I would like to see what is there. popcorn::

I am wondering about the Halloween plushes, pins, bags and so forth.

Thanks in advance!!! :goodvibes

Everyone have an awesome time!!! :wizard:

This is soo funny...when my dd was 4 we took my brother who was about 22 at the time with us to WDW. We were eating at the Princess dinner at the Akershus in Epcot and he had commented to my husband that Jasmine was hot.....well of course when Jasmine came to our table my daughter says..."Uncle Keith thinks your hot"...Jasmine handled it in stride and said something like oooh Alladin will be jealous :thumbsup2
