ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Hey CoachBagFanatic ......Glad to hear the cat is still in the bag :thumbsup2. I knew you could keep this secret......and you really don't have that much time to go since the holidays will probably fly by and it will be summer before you know it :goodvibes.

It will be here before you know it :goodvibes.

This can't be true.....it's way too early .
I can't believe the forecast, BUT it will warm up Monday for the kiddos to trickortreat hopefully....I want this week to FLY by!!! :lovestruc
No fair!!!! I gotta sit through this whole winter before I get to the Poly!!! My car door was frozen shut this morning as well...it's far too early for this stuff! :scared1:
:scared1: It sure is
Hey there mickeynut1:wave: Wanted to let you know that I am still staying strong. The cat is still in the bag. I am going to say Yeah Me.:woohoo::yay:

:yay::yay: Can't wait!!!

3 more work days, tonight , tomorrow, and wednesday!!!!!

logpey, love the trip report and the wonderful pictures. Really nice looking family you have there. Seeing your pictures makes me want to be at the Poly like yesterday.:lmao:
:

Well, thank you kindly! I know what you mean about wanting to be at the POLY, why do u think it took me so long to do the TR, Looking at the pics & recalling the trip makes me soooo home sick! Have a great weekend..:thumbsup2

Ok Poly Friends... I have been gone for two weeks out on the Disney Wonder in the Mexican Riviera and out to Disneyland checking out some of the new stuff! Did I miss anything here while I was gone?? I am still counting the days til we return! :goodvibes

28 DAYS!! :banana::banana::banana:

I think you know that I will not be packed until the morning of departure :rotfl: at least it's only DH and I....

So Mar, about my foot, it's funny, well NOW it is....I dropped a frozen chicken and broke it. It happened last Tuesday, and I was in a cast, but I was upgraded to a walking boot yesterday (for good behavior) Not really, it's a trial. If I am pain free with the boot, I can do Disney with the boot...if not back to the cast....So far so good:goodvibes

Oh my, I hope you feel O.K.! WDW will make it all better, but what a funny story to tell! Take care.

If only! It's a pretty big hole, for which he has to have a second surgery next month. He also can't hear out of that ear right now, so I'll probably be doing a lot of shouting too. So yeah, it's gonna be Earplug City for us. It won't stop us from having an awesome time though!

Great outlook, very positive! I hope everything goes wonderfully!:flower3:

I am super excited that I know I can keep this secret. Not that I want my life to flash by me but June can't come soon enough. I have never been this excited about staying at the Poly before. Even though we've had surprise ressie's for our DS before we have always canceled. This time is so much different and I can't put my finger on it. I should stop trying to figure it out.:lmao:

We still sit here and look at our vacation from last year and talk about all the fun we had. So yes, I can see why it took you so long for the TR. You have a great weekend as well.:flower3:

Here's the happy dance for all those who are leaving soon.:woohoo::yay::dance3::yay::woohoo:

Hi princessdisnygina...back to the Poly in 29 days for us! DBF is trying to talk me into DL...wonder if I'll be disappointed.

3 more work days, tonight , tomorrow, and wednesday!!!!!

We have had very cold Halloweens the last couple of years. I hope the weather is decent too......it's sad seeing the little ones all bundled up and not able to show off their costumes. I have older teens so it doesn't effect me, but I feel for all the parents walking the streets with their kiddos freezing :sad2:.

Yay for just 3 more work days :dance3:.

Looking at the pics & recalling the trip makes me soooo home sick! Have a great weekend..:thumbsup2

I go through the same thing......I love looking at my Poly pics, but it makes me sad because I wish I was back there :sad1:.

I feel bad for you guys. Its 80 degrees, sunny and 5% humidity here in Az. I won't talk about what it was like 2 months ago. LOL

Just push some of that hot weather towards Chicagoland....we could use it :rotfl:.

I know the feeling. I was SO excited before our first Poly stay. The Poly was the resort we always said we wanted to try......then when I finally booked it, the real excitement kicked it :goodvibes. The minute we walked into the lobby I was hooked .

Hi princessdisnygina...back to the Poly in 29 days for us! DBF is trying to talk me into DL...wonder if I'll be disappointed.

You don't have too much longer to go :yay:. I think the same thing about DL. We have talked about going, but I can't bring myself to do it because I'm afraid I'd miss Disney World too much :sad2:.

Good morning everyone. It's cold, windy and rainy here. Temps are going to drop and 1-3" of snow is expected overnight with the chance of power outages  The only snow I was looking forward to was on Main Street at the Xmas Party. Oh well, only 4 1/2 days to go and we'll be in that lovely FL sun  Guess I'll finish packing and amuse myself on the boards. Aloha.

I can't believe how much snow we've gotten already! I spent my morning looking over my Poly pics from 2 years ago and dreaming of our trip in Jan! :woohoo:

Glad your back! How was your trip? Just a lot of this :surfweb: while you were gone. Sounds like a wonderful vacay...:thumbsup2

Trip was great! I love Disney Cruises and could do them all the time if money allowed! As far as Disneyland.... Love it as it is the original but it isn't an every year type of place for me. Maybe every few years! :thumbsup2

Hi princessdisnygina...back to the Poly in 29 days for us! DBF is trying to talk me into DL...wonder if I'll be disappointed.

YAY! You will be there with us then! Disneyland is fun and you should definitely go if you have never been! However, it is nothing like WDW. Of course some of the rides are "similar" but it still feels different. Everything is cramped into a smaller space and it attracts many locals whereas WDW is more tourists. It was insanely busy there but I have figured out... as even with WDW... be there when the park opens! We did 7 rides in an hour and a half (mainly Fantasyland rides). Fantasmic! was fun but not as good, IMO, as WDW... and yes it is slightly different. HOWEVER... WORLD OF COLOR... OMG! I LOVE LOVE LOVED it! I am hoping we see that merge over to WDW. You wouldn't need more than 4 nights at DL though. We had 4 nights and had enough really. Let me know if you want more info about DL, I would be happy to share my thoughts and give you some pointers! :thumbsup2 Send me a PM if you like!

Back on the Poly note... I CAN'T WAIT to go back... these 4 weeks can't go by quick enough! :woohoo:

The Poly is one of my favorite hotels. Steps to the TTC and that means three ways to the MK. Love the restaurants one and all. The grilled cheese at Capt. Cooks is awesome. And Dole Whips...classic.

Enjoy your trips everyone.

89 Days I know it seems like a lot, but I am getting excited. Once it drops below 90 days I get into the okay now we got things to do mode.
Planning a trip with Children is alot harder than on with just me and hubby. Expecially since my 16 year old nephew is wanting "the Whole Disney Experience" my 12 year old niece is just kinda going with the flow. I told them about our reservations at the Polynesian, but they didn't really understand the difference in hotels till I showed them the park maps. My nephew kept saying we just want to go to Disney World. I explained. Funny, the didn't know it was 4 different parks and Downtown Disney. Then they were even more excited. Sure hope the crowd calendars are close to correct. 2s and 3s the whole time we are there.
My husband even admitted yesterday he's getting pretty excited about the trip. He's excited about the Polynesian, Club Level and the monorail. I guess anything with less walking he really likes. LOL
Have a great day.
Lori

Funny, no one else getting it--seems crazy to us "OVER PLANNERS." Its hard to believe people don't know its 4 different parks, even kids. But maybe thats the Disney crazy in us Dis' peeps, sometimes we know too much. Boy will they have a lovely surprise, when they get there & realize how awesome & huge WDW is, then they'll get it! It's always more exciting when the hubby gets excited, I don't know why that is. Our last trip my hubby was more excited than ever before, & it was more fun. Oh 89 days is nothing you still have less than me..104 I think, for Aulani..:wizard:

Aloha!

Good morning from home :sad2: Truth be told, it is always sad to come home, but it also feels good to sleep in your own bed and see our doggies!

I will give a mini review as I do plan on doing a trip report. I will try to keep this Poly related....

We arrived Sunday 10/23 at about 11 in the morning via ME. It was a bit of chaos in the arrival area. There were CM with folders waiting but no one bothered to approach us or greet us. There was a lot of people coming and going. I am not sure what the new "system" is supposed to accomplish but it does not seem well thought out. So we just walked ourselves through the GCH to Hawaii because we like to take in the Poly lobby upon arrival. I do know that two other CL guests were told they had to check in at the GCH because the CL CMs were busy :confused3 This seems counter productive to me?

For us the Hawaii check is was seamless. There was one CM checking in another guest which happened to be Woodkins ;) So we sat down with Tom the available CM. He was very nice and he chatted us up for a bit. I was anxious and just DYING to hear our room number because we really wanted a third floor room as were were book GVCL. We just wanted our balcony. Well, he proceeds to tell us that we were getting an upgrade but it could not be third floor. While DH was not really liking the fact that he was not getting his balcony, I was really happy :wizard: It was a nice surprise. I gave DH a "zip it" look :lmao: Although Tom could not give us our room number yet, he said that we would get a text when our room was ready. While DH balcony wishes were totally over ridden by his girls, he did learn to appreciate the view over the balcony.

Off to the MK we went. After a few hours we did not receive a text which I hear is not that unusual  So we headed back to the longhouse and the CM there gave us our room number. We ended up in 2508 which is a LV room. The view was fabulous pixiedust: So the trip started off very well. I will go over certain aspects of the good and the sadly, bad, about our stay!

The room- Our room was fairly clean but did have some wear ad tear in some places. The bathroom was very clean. No mold to be seen at all. Of course the fan is my biggest gripe but we learned to bring DDs balloon in the bathroom with us when we shower and that helps keep the fan on. The new shower heads are nice. I was disappointed at the lack of cleanliness of the sliding door glass and mirrors in the room. There was a smear of cream cheese on the sliding glass door when we arrived and on the mirror over the day bed some tiny hand prints which were smaller than anyone in my family could make :rolleyes1 Well, I had windex wipes so I just cleaned them myself. I have to say that I defend Mousekeeping in some respects because on two occasions I witnessed an arriving guest complaining about their room not being ready...well before the 3pm check in time :headache: I am sure they are under pressure to turn those rooms around is as quick as possible. While this lack of attention to the glass is annoying, it is not a trip killer.

Mousekeeping- In a word...very good. They came in early during the day and we had wonderful turn down service at night. We had many special treats waiting for us and DDs stuffed animals were always doing something different. It was fun to come back to the room in the evening. Now I have to say that before we would leave the room I would always tidy up and put things in their place. There was just three of us so it is easier to keep the room organized. The only "issue" was on our first day I asked for hangers . While I was on the phone I asked if they could also take the two sets of extra pillow and linens that were in the closet so we would have more space to put out stuff and she said not a problem. But the women that delivered the hangers refused and said they HAVE to stay in the room and to just shove them on the side of the bed between the wall . I am a tad anal and a neat freak so that would not work for me but I was in no mood to argue so I left them in the room with a note for Mousekeeping to please take them and guess what? They were gone....issue resolved:thumbsup2 During my TR I will post pics of all of our fun treats we came back to the room to! It made the trip that much more special. So Mousekeeping gets a :thumbsup2 despite the few little things.

CL Lounge- Chef Eugene is wonderful! He made the most wonderful dishes for Ahiahi (evening service). I am not a huge foodie so I did not take pictures of the offerings but there was beef wellington, dumplings, chicken satay, baked brie with raspberry sauce...oh so yummy!!! Kakahiaka (morning service) basically the same stuff day after day. I was a bit disappointed that the only yogurt they served was Danimals which is a kid yogurt filled with sugar. They used to serve Yoplait :confused3 But the pastries were plentiful as was the fruit and yogurt. But you can't beat the lounge for a nice quick breakfast, I just wish there was more protein options with breakfast. There were small lines for food at times but there really wasn't a free for all food dash. For Auinala (afternoon service), there were plenty of snacks out throughout the day like yogurt covered pretzels and raisins, trail mix, popcorn, fish crackers and cookies. I ate way too many cookies. They did not have uncrustables out every day during Auinala like they did two years ago. I think I saw them out during the mid day once or twice but they did have them out some nights during Ahiahi as well as little mini corn dogs. Now here comes my one and only major gripe. THREE nights in a row the Ku'ulei's punch was gone by Aumoe, dessert and cordial offerings! This ticked me off as I was not interested in just wine or beer. I love the punch and felt that with Hawaii being full as I was told by many CMs, then they should have enough. The good news is that the generic cordials are gone and the brand names are back :thumbsup2 One night I was chatting with Chef Eugene and happened to mention my disappointment at the lack of punch and he was visibly annoyed :sad2: by this and after that night there was plenty of punch available up until 10pm. The lounge CMs and Chef Eugene were wonderful. Yes, there are some more chatty than others but I chatted with everyone and found them all to be lovely people. Especially Sandrine and Irv

Now, lets move on to some GUESTS....I am prepared for flames and I will put a disclaimer out there that this is MY opinion and different strokes for different folks BUT, I feel that wearing your robe to the lounge is rude and just really unnecessary. We all get robes in Hawaii, so you are not showing us something we don't have?? And put some shoes on your feet people! I am eating in here :scared1: I do not want to see you shirtless in your wet bathing suit drinking a beer barefoot. It is a public lounge, not your living room :confused3 What would you think if you walked in to Captain Cooks, or Kona and saw people sitting in robes or shirtless or shoeless?? OK, vent over :snooty: Yes, I probably sound like a snob, but again, it is my opinion and I felt it was inappropriate!

The Poly in General- Beautiful as always. The GCH is definitely showing signs of wear. The last few days we had rain and there was water dripping into buckets throughout. I have a feeling that something is/has to be done soon. I heard no rumors or had any discussions with any CMs about any plans of renovations and/or DVC but I did not really ask either. The pool was beautiful and somewhat crowded. We were arm banded a few days and it seemed to help. Movies on the beach is very nice but I am not a fan of the blasting music by the pool all afternoon but my child is older and did not really take part in too much of the pool side activities. But I can see how it may help a family with younger kiddos. I just sort of miss the tranquil Poly music.

Captain Cooks- Seemed fine. We ate there a few times. Most delays were from guests not understanding how it works which is understandable as it is confusing there. The cashiers are always so lovely there  I swear the same ladies have been working there forever. While they are not beaming with sunshine, they do a good job of explaining the dining plan and food pick up procedure in a fairly monotone but nice way. While I find the food prices really high, they do have some decent selections that are tasty.

Finally, Transportation from the Poly- Poor  Who would think that bus service to DHS studios was less complicated and was more efficient than the monorail and the boats to MK? I went into this trip with the understanding that we may encounter issues but never in my wildest imaginations would I think that it would take an hour to get back to the Poly from the MK on a basic low crowd park day :headache: I put the transportation issues all on Disney corporate and not the Poly of course. It is clear that the monorail has issues. They need to cut their losses. Shut the monorail completely for a while and fix it. In the meantime put more (and bigger) boats in the water and run more buses. We were stuck in between the CR and TTC for over an hour :furious: Not only was I annoyed with being stuck in a loaded car standing, I had to listen to a women make numerous phone calls chewing out anyone who would listen about how she was missing her ADR for lunch at EPCOT. One of our main reasons, besides the fabulous views of the MK, we stay at the Poly for transportation ease and that went out the window this trip. I could go day by day about the issues we encountered but there is no point. They have a problem and I hope it gets fixed because this Poly loving family may stray from our beloved resort. Especially since EPCOT and DHS studios have become more appealing to us as DD gets older.

So I don't finish my review on negative note, I will finish up by saying that at the Poly we encountered wonderful CMs and fabulous service the entire time. You cannot beat the view and the resort itself is as beautiful as ever. We made new friends and had some wonderful experiences with friends made right here on the DIS.

I promise to post lots of pics once I get them uploaded. Feel free to ask questions as I am sure I missed something. It was a fabulous vacation and while we do not have any plans to start planning our next trip it is not for lack of wanting to. :flower3:
