I just lost my Mom on Friday. She was healthy and active, but had a massive stroke 3 weeks ago, and never woke up from a coma. I want to plan a WDW trip for my DH and 2 boys, and my dad (the world's biggest Mickey fan). It will give Dad something to look forward to. On our last stay at the Poly, we stayed club level in the Hawaii building. Best location, and perfect view of the castle and the fireworks.

So here is my question for all of you. I am trying to decide if I should get 2 theme park view rooms in the Hawaii building (I think 5 of us in a room may be too close), or if I should get a 1 bedroom suite. I am guessing that the sofa bed would be in a different room, so it wouldn't feel so tight, and would give my Dad a little privacy for sleeping. It would be cheaper than the 2 rooms, but I would like to know if we could see the castle and fireworks. Anyone stay in a 1 bedroom suite that can help? Can we see the castle and fireworks? That is our favorite thing about staying at the Poly. Thanks for your help!!!:)

Planning a trip sure is a good way to get through this tough time.

As for the 2 room idea. You could do one TPV and one GV and request them to be across from each other. Dad could easily hang out with you for view and at night retire to his own space. I did this at WL once with my inlaws. The kids loved going across the hall (kids like the darnedest things).

Good view and space with saving of $$$.

I did GV in April and TPV in may. I spent time in lounge with GV but more time in room with TPV. But! Both were great trips:cloud9:

I would love to hear about your cruise! I have never been on one but am very intrigued by DCL...

My DH and I have cruised in the past, but not DCL, so this December will be our first Disney cruise :). Looking at pics of the ship and reading about all the shows and great restaurants on board, I am getting really excited. I will definitely post a report after our trip :goodvibes.

The other great thing about CL is the extra space!

This is the main reason we stay CL. I love having the lounge for a place to relax other than in the room or around the resort. I am usually the first one up in the morning, so I like to head to the lounge and have my coffee while everyone else is getting up and ready ;).

Thank you for the hug mickeynut1. It was a rough time but my wonderful dh and kids helped me to get through it.

Glad you had them to lean on during such a difficult time.

We experienced very badly behaved children in the lounge too.....

Unfortunately, I think this happens in all CL lounges :sad2:. My last CL stay was GF RPC and kids were barefoot running around the lounge and jumping all over the couches with no adult in sight to take control of the situation.

I lost my dad unexpectedly back in 99 so I understand how it feels!

I will never forget our first night at Poly CL, this family had 3 little boys and one had bitten his bro, the mom was sitting at a table, the dad was getting food and the mom proceeds to yell across the lounge for the dad to come do something to the child that did the biting. Dad walks over and starts yelling for him to apologize, little boy refuses, dad keeps threatening to take him back to room, while the son refused for a good 5 or 6 min finally little boy says he will but then refuses to so there goes the arguing again, finally about 10 min later dad carrys the boy kicking and screaming out the lounge. (this took a total of about 15 min atleast) Mom turns to the other two boys and says Oh Oh dad is gonna be mad, he didnt get to drink his beer!!
I was in shock, we all know kids dont always behave for whatever reason, tired, whatever but the family was so loud, acting like they were alone in the crowded lounge and let it go on for so long! I was sitting two tables down staring at the mom with my mouth open b/c I was in shock! My husband had to reach over and shut my mouth and tell me that i was being rude staring!

LOL I think thats the only issue Ive ever seen in the lounge is ppl who let the kids run wild, put their hands on the food. I did see CMs several times ick up plates off the buffett after kids have had their hands all in it, which is a shame b/c that food was thrown away!

I just cannot get it out of my head to not book here for 2014....LOL!

Hope everyone going soon has a great time!

Sooo torn...looked at youtube videos for Beach Club and DD12 says "let's try here since we are closer to Epcot and we have stayed at the Poly" i'm starting to think im the only one set on the March trip to the Poly. My brother not thrilled about the price! So then im thinking if construction is bad, they are going to kill me! :) haven't been to the Poly since 2009, so i guess waiting until the major construction is done isn't too terrible. :( what to do...

May I ask what your room number was? We also had a patio but TPV even though it seemed more like lagoon view. We experienced very badly behaved children in the lounge too.....the chef was doing his best to help a toddler get food every 10 minutes....otherwise we loved everything about our stay in Hawaii!

We were in 1510, which is a lagoon view room. Love those rooms!!

The chef and other cast members work their butts off to keep everything full and nice for the lounge guests.

I have poly club level booked for October 19-26 and have a huge question. Is bud light one of the beers served at the lounge? Hubby is okay with trying new things but my dad is a strictly bud light guy. I will need to have a case delivered if it isn't available at the lounge

We were in 1503, so it really was a great location, but before I went I did my research and was under the impression that 1503 was lagoon view, so I was shocked when we were given that room and told it was TPV and always had been. Don't get me wrong - it was a GREAT view:thumbsup2. I just didn't want to pay for TPV if it was indeed LV.

Yes, the chefs and CM's were outstanding! Can't say enough nice things about them. We've been to Disney many times and this has to be one of the best all-around trips we've had. You just can't beat ending the night sitting out on the patio watching Wishes and water parade.

Same here!

All weekend, I've been going back and forth as to whether I should switch to the GF if the Volcano Pool is out of commission in 2014.

In that regard, I'm guessing that if the Volcano Pool is out of commission, Poly guests will be allowed to use the GF pools. But I'm wondering how much of a hassle that will be (we have a 3 YO daughter, so walking back and forth without a stroller takes a while - the quickest way would probably be to take the Monorail over and then the boat back but I feel a little uncomfortable about walking through the GF lobby in our swim suits:scared:).

Even though I'm sure the GF is very nice, my heart still keeps saying Poly.

If it helps, typically if the volcano pool is out of commission they provide a dedicated boat from the Poly beach to the GF, so you don't have to walk all the way over.

We are also wondering what to do about 2014. We're only there for a few nights before a cruise, but we were really looking forward to a Poly fix and planned on a lot of resort time. I'm not sure how enjoyable that will be if there are construction walls smack in the middle of the resort!

Had to share.....

Did on-line check in last night and requested Tokalau & Balcony for our upcoming 9/18-9/24 stay. I am so excited I think I may just burst!:hyper:

Yep, the effect of the construction walls on the ambiance is my other big concern (especially if there are construction walls around the pool AND inside the GCH:crazy2:).

I'll admit, this will be our 4th stay in 4 yrs at the Poly. We love the Poly, however, if we go back next Sept and there is construction on the pool & GCH, I am seriously thinking about BC or YC. We spend the majority of our time at EPCOT, but also love MK and being at a monorail resort BUT I won't pay those high prices if major construction is going on.

Count me in among the ones worried about construction next year. I keep trying to calm myself with the fact nothing has been done or announced officially and we aren't going until the end of June. But what if Captain Cook's is closed? Or the pool? My youngest DS wants to try the Contemporary but DH and I don't like the feel of it. My middle DS wants the Beach Club as a back up and my oldest DS is happy with whatever. It's hard because our last trip was at the Poly and it was perfect'

Do you think there will be much construction going on already in November of this year? I just booked my first ever poly stay and now I'm a little worried. Only thing I really know about the place is the few pictures I've seen online. It looks amazing and I'm trying to plan a dream vacation for my sweet in-laws who have never and will never be back again.

I think you will be fine with November of this year. The construction on the pool is not scheduled until January and I think they are also waiting until then to start anything on the GCH. If anyone knows anything differently, please chime in. You can also check Tikiman's website for updates. The Poly is an amazing resort!!!

We came up with a backup plan for our March 2014 trip - Bay Lake 2 BR Lake View Villa, shared with my sister and her husband. We watched some video tours and looked at photos over the weekend and we all liked it. We still want to be at the Poly, but if we can't, at least we're getting some good trade-offs: more space overall, 3 bathrooms for the 6 of us, full kitchen, washer and dryer, living room space where we can all hang out (11 of us total at our max), possibly a view of Spaceship Earth from the balconies, and if not the volcano pool - the kids will have 2 pools with slides to try out.

Maybe you all can help me with this question: We know we need to get BLT booked. Those 2 BR's are harder to come by than a standard view at the Poly. I'm worried we won't know something for sure one way or the other about Poly construction until maybe even January. So I think one of us (me or my sister) is going to book BLT today. Here's the question - can the other of us go ahead and book 2 Poly rooms (or possibly 3 depending on what my mom decides) as well? On one reservation? That way we'd really be covered, either way. I'm not too worried about Poly rooms being available, but it would still be nice. Not sure how that would work with names though? And would 2 rooms be considered 1 package ($200 dep) or 2 ($400)? That doesn't really matter, just trying to figure this all out.

We are the same way for January trip. My mom booked a room at the Poly (4 adults, 1 child, 1 infant) and I have a 2 bedroom at BLT reserved. We just put the minimum down on each (I know it was $200 for BLT) and won't make payments on either until discounts come out and we decide what we want to do for sure

Can anyone tell me if there is a retractable clothes line in the shower in the new refurbished rooms?

OK, so my husband's brother would like to come join us for part of our trip, starting with our last night at the Poly. His parents (the grandparents) would be more than happy to have him crash on their extra bed... but is this even allowed? Would he need to get his own separate room, since he won't be on the dining plan or need the same amount of tickets? I thought I saw somewhere you can register an extra "guest" with the front desk... just so they know for fire purposes, etc. Anyone know what the fee is on this or how it works?
