Looking at booking Poly CL for trip in May for trip with DH, DD4, my mom, my dad and aunt. Mom and aunt have mobility issues and will need scooters for parks but can get around hotel without them. DH and I have stayed at Poly before and loved it but not CL. I want to go CL this time so my parents have snack and drink options near room. Also, another place to hang out if they decide not to go to parks with us.

Are there any room request anyone could make based upon this scenario? I'm thinking ground floor.

First floor or second floor.
My wife has needed a scooter due to her knee issues
The first floor was nice because she could ride out the sliding glass door to get to the pool or GCH. When we arrive back from the parks I would go in and open the patio door and in she would go. Unless you get a an handicap accessible room the entrance at the front door is pretty tight. Do able but tight.

Second choice would be second floor. They can just walk down the hall to get to the lounge. That is the floor with the snacks and large dining/relaxation/viewing area for wishes. They wouldn't need to take stairs or elevator to get there! The only drawback is there is no balcony in the room just large sliding glass door for viewing wishes.

I would ask for 2nd floor, on the end of the building that is close to the lounge. It will save a lot of walking to not have to go up and down that long hallway every time you want to pop into the lounge. And the lounge is on the same end of the building as the volcano pool, concierge desk, and main entrance to the building. The elevator is also on this end of the building (unless there is a second elevator that I don't know about).

Thanks so much for the quick responses! I'm so very excited about the location, and I don't think we'll mind the show noise and foot traffic - My DH and I kind of prefer being "close to the action" rather than feeling "secluded." It sounds like we would be happy with either side, and I'm glad to hear that construction won't be a big issue. I'm hopeful we'll get Fiji, although I don't often read about people disliking their Longhouse - it seems they all have their benefits!

Thanks again!

You will love Fiji. We stayed in Aotearoa (beach side, viewing castle thru a wispy tree for garden view price!) and loved the area. The beach at Fiji is just beautiful and usually quiet. We enjoyed "people watching" as folks made their way to the luau in the evenings. Although some do not care for the music from the luau, we really enjoyed it and it actually enhanced the tropical island atmosphere. Loved it

So i guess when i see the lady passed out by the dole whip machine, face and shirt covered in dole whips, it would be you? :rotfl2:
Ill try not to hog the machine! :thumbsup2

Thanks!! Yes, that will be me...:lmao:
Or the one skipping to the check-in area from her ME Bus, shouting "DREAMS REALLY DO COME TRUE!!" :yay:

I have a feeling that I will be an emotional mess when we first get there. It's been almost 10 years since I have been back to Hawaii and this will be kind of like going "home" for me...:cloud9: So if you see a weird lady with mascara running down her face...its me and those are tears of sheer JOY :thumbsup2

Yeah we love the dole whip so much for a brief moment we were thinking of leaving our clothes behind and packing the dole whip machine instead.

I read all these posts of people requesting specific houses or rooms and what not but has anyone ever just left it to the Tiki Gods, lol, and just let the room be assigned? If so are there any horror stories? I find myself over analyzing things so much that I'm wondering if I should just go and get what I get. You know... kinda like throwing a dart at a phone book thing ;) Who knows, maybe I would be pleasantly surprised. Any thoughts?? :confused3

Thanks!! :goodvibes

If you go back several pages you will see I left it up to the tiki gods and was not pleased. It wasn't a "horror" story per say but it won't be something I am doing again. I was far from every where I wanted to be. It wasn't a horrible location but with a request I think I could have had a much more desired location.

Your plans sound great. I thought we were the only family in the Phoenix area that goes to WDW. Everyone I know goes to DL. Annual passes are dangerous. You might want to make an extra trip. If you do decide to make that "extra trip" I highly recommend the Food and wine festival in October or the the first 2 weeks of Dec. The holiday decorations are great.
Thank you for the suggestions! We’ve been the first week of December (2009) and it was amazing. The only real crowds were for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. The next December trip will likely be in 2013 as a major meeting for me is back in Orlando! I’m originally from the east coast and while we appreciate DL, WDW feels more like home for us. We were in DL December 2010 and mid week was awesome, but by the weekend the crowds were insane. I dare say worse than WDW over a holiday. With my schedule it’s been harder to get away in September/October. I’m a pharmacy professor and assistant Dean of a school that in session year round so my life from January to December is a bit crazy…:). With a 4 year old we have another year or two before “pull them out of school guilt” so we are taking advantage.

First visit 1976, last visit WDW 2/2010 BC CL and DL GC 12/2010, future WDW 7/2012 (off site meeting), 4/2013 Poly with cruise!

I have never made a location request in any stay at WDW. I feel like I would be setting myself up for disappointment if I didn't get what I wanted, so I always leave it up to chance and have always been pleased with the location that I got. I did request a room change once when I was assigned to an accessible room and needed a bathtub for my DD, but that wasn't related to location.

Specific to the Poly, when not staying CL, I have been given Tokelau and Rarotonga and enjoyed both :thumbsup2 The tiki gods did well by us :cloud9:

This trip will be the first time I make a request...I think I will be happy in any longhouse ~ I just really want us to have a balcony or a paito.

It really all depends on you as an individual. Everyone has their own preferences for room locations and everyone places different degrees of importance on these preferences. Some people are perfectly happy with anything as long as they're at Disney while others would consider their entire vacation ruined if their room was too far from the buses. Neither of these views are wrong as it's all just personal preference. Just be honest with yourself as to where on the spectrum you fall and do what's best for you. You want to have a great time so if you think your room location might affect that then go ahead and make the request, but if it really doesn't matter to you then go ahead and let the tiki gods decide.

We've done the "Disney Gods" (not at the Poly that year) and were greatly disappointed and spent an hour trying to get another location that would work for our family. We give our recommendation based on priority and hope for the best. When at the Poly I prefer Samoa first floor, last year they were almost at capacity in October and we got the building next door 2nd floor. Good enough and not much of a choice to move. It did not "ruin" our vacation, but the non-stop rain was disappointing (record making rainfall in one day for the Orlando area in 100 years...damn Rain Gods!!!!)

This is my first stay at the Poly this June and I will be miserable if I don't like my longhouse. DECOR and fresh are really important to me - we are long time YC fans (in fact staying poly/yc cl split stay) and I reserached the longhouses and made the choice best for me and this is my only request. So I fall into the category of being miserable if I have an older leaky room..I need a more recentlly updated one thus that is my only request. I can't let this one go to the Tiki Gods!! :)

Thanks to all who responded about CL and scooters. One more quick question -- have all the CL rooms been refurbished with new linens? I was in a newly refurbished room in December and I was so happy to bid adieu to the polyester bedspreads.

These are the bedspreads that are on the beds in Hawaii. Don't know what they are made of though? :confused3
