ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

:worship: Tess, you are a treasure trove of information. Wow, I didn't know this! DD11 wants to buy some snowglobes on this trip (and I'll probably get some artwork) and I was wondering how the heck I'd get to the post office to ship that stuff.

Some of the shops will also ship your items. This past December I was buying quite a few breakable ornaments at the Christmas store in MK. The girl offered to wrap the items and have the items shipped to my house. I didn't take her up on the offer only because I was giving the ornaments to friends as a thank you and needed them as soon as I got home. She said it would take 7-10 business days for the items to be shipped.

So - who was it that posted about the Eddie Bauer Sporks?

Anyway - if it was you - thanks!

I was there today, and picked up four (for each of the adults in our party) in black, red and yellow (and translucent yellow). We plan to put them to good use :rolleyes1

We just finished recording episode 8 on disdads podcast on iTunes.. It is the great dining plan debate can't say that it's "the great" but we did hit some good highlights about the advantages and disadvantages and some tricks and tips on the dining plan. I also did a brief Pre-trip report about our upcoming stay at the poly. Anyone interested in listening to disdads dribble let me know and I will post a link to the podcast Should be edited and posted to iTunes by Monday!:thumbsup2

Thanks MsStinkerBelle. You can actually ship it home from the stores as well. We've had stuff shipped from The World of Disney among others. Everything has arrived in one piece and it's nice to have those surprises pop up after you have returned.

Oops, I posted this information again--guess I should really read through the thread and then post. . .or not. :lmao:

Someone a few weeks back said the hair wrap station had been moved over closer to the pool bar ... but I haven't seen any pics from anyone yet. Can't imagine how that poor hair wrap girl is going to work with the crowds that are usually there in July! :confused3

When we were there last week, the hair wrap place was on the right if you were facing the lake with the volcano pool to your back. On the sidewalk btwn the popjet fountain kiddo spot and the beach.

We have done this as well. It works out great. I bet this would help assuage the PPD if everything came from the Boutiki. I wonder if they do the shipping too?

Quick question for those that have been to Poly, this is my family's first stay and I wanted to do the torch lighting ceremony one night we're there. Do they still do this? If so, what time and where do you have to go?

21 days!!! :cool1:

You meet in the GCH near the front door, I think it is at 6:00 pm.

ETA: I don't think it's every night though - when you check in you will be given an activities schedule. It will have the information on there.

We also have almost all of our purchases shipped home. We had an opposite experience when we bought and shipped 4 large mugs home from the kitchen shop in DTD. All 4 arrived with the handles broken off. One quick call to WDW customer service and they immediately shipped out replacement mugs. The funny part is that when the replacements arrived 2 of the mugs they sent were not what we had ordered. When I called again, not only did they overnight me the correct ones they told me I could keep the 2 wrong mugs as a thank you for my patience!

It is well worth the piece of mind to have breakables shipped home. If I had packed those mugs and they were broken in transit in my luggage I would have been out of luck.

Staying at the Poly for one night prior to moving off site and closer to Give Kids the World Village- where my 18 yr old niece and I will be volunteering. The purpose of the trip was solely for volunteer time however, I just had to sneak in a little side trip to the Poly theme park view CL for one night to celebrate her graduation from high school!! So far, IPO has been wonderful about helping with my planning needs although, I handled my ADR's at Ohana and Kona on my own- and on-line. Curious is anyone has stayed CL at the Poly as of late and how the food offerings have been? Also, I was going to request a patio, 1st floor room. Having never stayed at the Poly before- about how close is the beach from the Hawaii first floor rooms and should I try to get near the CL lounge or further down the hall for the best theme park view?

Oh and one more question. Thinking about ordering a specialty cake. Would you have it delivered to one of our restaurants say- Kona at lunch- or Ohana at dinner- or utilize private dining and have it brought to the room? Anyone utilize private dining for surprises like choc covered strawberries or choc monorail?

Thinking bout using Disney Florist for a small graduation welcome gift in the room too...So many options!! LOL! :flower3:

Thank you so much! I will look for her there!

We checked out Sunday after a wonderful 8 night stay at the Poly and we are all still so sad!! We are deep in Disney Depression, LOL! Our original plan for next year was to stay at the Yacht Club, but after this stay we have decided that it's the Poly for us again! Transportation just can't be beat and the entire feel of the resort is just perfect!! We were in a garden view room on the ground floor of Figi and we really liked our location. Our view was of the beach in between the Poly and the GF as well as the GF itself and the monorail! It was very peaceful and quiet over there and we could only just barely hear the Luau a couple of nights, but never enough to bother us or keep us awake.

Sadly it will be 360 days until we are back there again!:sad1:

No, I didn't get any pics of it. I don't know that I would want to have it though because of the location - it's just seems so far removed from the pool. We had Mauna Loa and really enjoyed it. I could even see the castle from my lounge chair.:goodvibes
