ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Rob! What a beautiful looking amazingly organized thread! I don't think I have ever seen anything better!!!

A favorite blogger of mine just wrote a two part history and review of the Poly PLUS put together an amazing video! I know that all of us Poly lovers will just drool on our keyboards while watching... plus I think he used the old school music loop as his background music .... (plus he has some great pictures of the new pool cabanas!)

Loved this quote from your friend's history:

"The Poly has two swimming pools, the Quiet Pool and the Nanea Volcano Pool. The Quiet Pool is reasonably large and is meant to be used by adults and more mature youngsters."

Couldn't agree with him more! :lmao: Although I'm sure others might argue the point since the pool isn't "technically" named "quiet pool". :rotfl2:

Wish I was double digit dancing..Ill feel better when I can atleast make my ADrs..

I don't think Disney agrees. That zero entry being added to the East pool (and speculated elimination of the deep end) will mean parents wanting to get away from the craziness of the volcano pool will now hang out at the East pool. We'll miss the east pool as it was.

Does anybody have any word on the construction at the east pool? Has it begun yet? Did I miss that? Last I saw on tikiman it was supposed to begin yesterday. I'm hoping it'll get put off again until the end of the month (basically until after my trip LOL) though I'm not holding my breath.

Just got home from the hospital and could REALLY use some Poly magic in my life right now. I'll be stalking the picture thread to make myself feel better.

What's wrong? I hope all is well with your health, the baby and the big brother-to-be...

Awww thanks! I had a stomach virus that has to be the worst one I've ever experienced ever. My doctor sent me in to be hydrated and monitored for a few hours. The nurse said this virus going around is pretty brutal and it seems to have a touch of the flu in it which is what is making it so intense. All is well with me and baby now though. :goodvibes

 Hang in there! Stock up on chicken broth, apple juice, and crackers. Hopefully the saline will hydrate you enough to calm the nausea. My DD had a nasty virus a few years ago that she couldn't keep anything down. A bag of saline in the office didn't work and we had to take her to the ER the next day for 2 bags of saline and anti-nausea meds in the drip. Worked great! Last year both DDs had the bug and a bag of saline each in the office did the trick. Gosh I hope they don't get it this year:sick:

Pass the time on the DIS or put Tikiman in your browser to listen to Poly music while you play solitaire:goodvibes

Aww that is terrible. I hope they don't get it. It seems to be really awful this year. Of course I got it the worst of everyone in the house! The fluids really seemed to help. I've been drinking Gatorade and water since I got home to try to keep up the hydration. The nausea seems to have subsided a lot, but not I just have a general lack of appetite. Tonight it's just me, a bottle of Gatorade, and some Tikiman. :lovestruc

At this time in 16 days, I expect to be getting off a Magical Express bus and heading into the Polynesian for the very first time - and for a very special occasion! It's our 5th anniversary!!!

I have enjoyed reading more about the Poly and seeing all the wonderful photos. I didn't think it possible, but I'm even more excited now! This is our first stay at a Deluxe - since there are 5 of us, we don't have many options without spending a small fortune. But since it's just my hubby and I, and it's a special anniversary, we decided to splurge. My only fear is I'll never be content with POR again!

We've reserved a garden view room (all my budget will afford, since we are headed back for Spring Break in March!). I'd truly appreciate any suggestions for which building / room to request.

:tink: What are the chances that I could actually get a free upgrade with the help of a little Pixie Dust??? :tink: I've never tried before, and I'd completely be happy with the room we have booked, by OMG that would be awesome! The cast member that I booked the ressie with kept trying to talk me into the Honeymoon Suite, but I just couldn't afford it. I'm just curious if anyone has ever tried or had any luck?

Thanks!!! 16 days and a wakeup until I get to see my castle again! :tinker:

It was 11 degrees here this morning, would've seemed warm a week ago LOL, and needed my Poly fix! We leave the frozen North in 8 days and 3 hours!!! Thanks guitarob for the new thread-- can't wait to be "home". That is what my DD 16 is waiting for, the guard to say "Welcome home"... Bringing our laptop, hope to post from the Poly :) The pictures have warmed me today!

In the car on the way to our first stay at Poly. Literally 4hr 45 min away from my Disney birthday celebration. Any last min advice?

So many of you with trips coming up:goodvibes
We are excitedly counting down the days to our first Poly visit. I am so excited. We have stayed at CSR and POR and really enjoyed both. I don't think the kids have any idea what a treat they are in for:goodvibes

My six year old is a funny guy. When he gets too excited he gets all teary. So he asked us to stop talking about the trip at dinner last night "because it makes me all weepy":rotfl: I have raised two awesome Disney fanatics:goodvibes

We have always gone in September before for free dining. While we have had wonderful trips I am SO looking forward to not fighting the extreme heat and humidity.
I just can't wait to watch Wishes from the Poly. So so excited today:goodvibes

:welcome: to the Disboards!!!

My best advice on this is always to expect nothing more than the room you pay for. Now, seriously, I'm not trying to be a downer, but the fact of the matter is that, in reality, upgrades are few and far between. In all my years of going (and staying GV, heck, I didn't even know CL existed until 2006). I wouldn't have even know they existed if not for reading the disboards.

As I've said before to others, don't over think your trip. It is so easy to get caught up in trying to nail down every little detail (and the disboards are a great place to get carried away from reality very quickly), and that can actually detract from the trip in the case that something doesn't go exactly as planned or hoped for.

I approach every trip thanking the good Lord that I get to stay at the Polynesian again, and leave the rest up to Disney magic.

I hope that you do have a magical and wonderful anniversary. The fact that you'll be celebrating it at the Polynesian and in WDW should pretty much guarantee that. Relax, have a blast, and let the Disney World work it's magic :goodvibes

You're going to have an awesome trip no matter what room you're in :thumbsup2

I have a quick question. In looking at the official map, on the 1st page of this awesome new thread, the building that houses the laundry, arcade and Neverland Club is called Tangarao. It looks like an awefully big building for just that. Is there anything else in that building or is Neverland club just that big?

Actually that building currently only houses Tangaroa Terrace, The Neverland Club and a small laundromat. I believe, and I know I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, that part of the back of the building houses some of the maintenance department.

I'm surprised that Moana Mickey's is still notated on that map (the map used is a scan of the map that I received in September of 2010, so it's fairly recent), that must have just been an oversight when the new maps were printed as Moana Mickey's hasn't been there for some time. The arcade is now located in the GCH next to Capt. Cook's.

Actually, upon further inspection of the map, Tokelau is misspelled "Tokela" as well... It's odd that quality control in their graphics department didn't catch that.

Tangaroa Terrace used to be a casual restaurant, served time for a while as Capt. Cook's and is now used mainly for weddings and other private events.

:goodvibes

Well...according to tikiman...the East pool renovation has been postponed again. It is now scheduled for Feb 21 - Apr 8. Wonder why it keeps getting bumped:confused3 Labor taking longer at another site or materials on backorder? HHmmmm....make a gal think....anyone have a theory? I know I am one of the few on here excited about the reno. I look forward to the pool possibly taking away some of the crowds from the volcano pool. More room for my family at our favorite table near the bar for quick refills:rolleyes1

The dates for the pool renovation had me concerned as well.... We are headed down 4/17-21.
I am surprised that they would plan this so close to the Spring Break crowds.:scared1:
