ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

I need some input for the pros :goodvibes

I am thinking of trying to step down from a TPV to lagoon view for our trip both on CL

The only difference is the fact you are guaranteed a non-obstructed view of the castle with the TPV room right?
I could save almost $100 downgrading the room which after doing my budget is kind of needed...

Can I get opinions from you. The best part was thinking we would be able to see the castle right from our room and fall asleep looking at that great site. But if we most likely would be able to see it anyway with a lagoon view I would like to save the money... can you help me ....

Yellow vs Blue is TPV vs Lagoon view. You can see they are right next to each other so essentially the same but yes, the Lagoon views may have a palm causing a slight obstruction. If it were me I would save the extra money. So many on here have posted lagoon view pictures of the castle and they have been amazing.

Thanks for the review Penelope2000! Sounds like you had a great trip :thumbsup2

Question - is there a door into the lounge from the 3rd floor hall? I requested 3rd floor for a balcony, but was just wondering if we'd need to go down to the 2nd floor to get into the lounge.

The second level of the lounge is on the 3rd floor - you'll walk through the door to that area, then down a flight of stairs to get to the food and tables.

Penelope2000 - "a rainbow in your mouth" - beautifully said!

Glad you had a good time and managed to not get worked up over the little things, like the food not being out at the exact time. Now you have me trying to remember if I've heard those fans squeaking before...

After much debate and deliberation....

We have upgraded to Lagoon View CL for our upcoming stay at the Polynesian :goodvibes

Can't wait!! :cloud9: Only 2 weeks now :thumbsup2

Had to post somewhere!

19 Days til our Poly vacation!!! :cool1:

Time is moving SO slow.... Is it September YET?

Penelope2000 - Thank you for the detailed review!

So I'm at 29 days now :cool1: But I had a horrible dream last night. I ALWAYS have bad dreams/nightmares before I go on vacation and I think it is my way of thinking of the worst things and then if something minor happens while I am there, it does not seem so bad. Anyway, I dreamt we checked in at some central location and we got to our room and I realized it was the Beach Club with a parking lot view AND it wasn't the normal BC, it had a holiday inn pool (which are FINE but not when you go to WDW for theming). I was sobbing and called the front desk and said I booked the Poly and they said there were no rooms that night for me but they could switch me the next day. I was so miserable because the hotel was so stark and not lush and tropical (and of course this is a dream so BC didn't look cool in my dream and BC IS a nice resort in reality.) So that was my bad dream :scared1:

So after reading Tikiman's site, I'm requesting Tokelau longhouse. My question is: If I want to try for a garden view room that has a view of the castle, what should I request? I think requesting the West side of the building, near the beach, 3rd or 2nd floor.

Thoughts?

Thanks!
D

First thought is not to ask for too many specific requests (unless of course there are medical reasons). Ask for two tops like Tokelau, 3rd floor. The last time I was at the Poly, they gave me a room with the 'best' castle view on the ground floor (I didn't ask for it though) and you can't see it from your room. I'm not sure if you could see it from the 3rd floor balcony. We had to walk a few steps out of the room to see the castle. So in my opinion, don't even attempt to ask for a view of the castle from Tokelau but rather, stick with your floor preference or 'near the beach end' request.

Other folks on here may have other advice though! Good luck!

I'm not the only one who has bad dreams, then! I just hate dreams like that.

I had a dream two or three nights back that I was there with DH and my family, and DH was off doing something by himself while I was with my parents, et al. I was getting texts from DH asking where I was, because we had to go to dinner. Meanwhile I hadn't even changed and had no idea how to get back to the resort from where I was. And suddenly it was dark out and I just knew, the way you know in dreams, that we had missed our anniversary dinner reservation and the night was ruined. And then the park was closing and I was stranded with no way to the resort.

It was unpleasant! :sad1:

I have Disney nightmares, too!! It's a sickness. Usually it's being somewhere without X costume or X autograph book, nothing too major, but for a planner like me...:scared:

I don't have nightmares, thank goodness, but I do have "list" dreams before vacation. In my dreams, I just start piling all the things on my list on my bed, over and over and over.

You'd think that after multiple dreams like that, I'd remember absolutely everything when I finally do pack, right? Nope. I always forget something of mine. Everyone else has everything they need (probably more) and I usually am missing a shirt or two.

:rotfl2:

Only 28 more days to go!!! Eeek! I can't wait!!!

Morning everyone!

Thanks for that very detailed review Penelope2000!

Question.. does the Poly have the channel that plays the old disney cartoons? I remember having it one yr at ASMo & POR but I havent seen it in quite some time, I was tell DH about it and he was saying he would love to see it.

Hi Bluejasmine,

We didn't watch much tv, but I do recall seeing a channel that had some short animated clips - the one time we did want to watch something and veg out, we borrowed a DVD from the CL lounge. If you are staying CL, there is quite a nice list of DVD's. Or, bring your own. Each CL room has a DVD player.

I just booked my first trip to the Poly for next July!!!! :cool1::thumbsup2Talk about how time is going to stand still between now and then and I still have to survive another New England winter:scared1:....how will I make it til then????

So glad I can share my excitement with other Poly addicts :yay:. I am so excited I could just burst!!!!

Hi Jdd,

yes, there is a door from the 3rd floor hallway directly into the third floor balcony of the lounge - you just walk through the balcony (which has couches, a tv, and some tables) to the far stairs, and take the stairs to the 2nd floor where food is served. If you were on the 1st floor, you just walk through the concierge lobby and walk up the stairs, or take the elevator up, or take the exterior stairs up. We liked the air conditioning!

I'm SO GLAD to hear that I am not the only one!!! Sounds like just our worries that manifest into our dreams. That's why I like GETTING THERE, so everything is so much better than the bad dreams. STILL 29 days to go????

My two cents are that you might be disappointed. We had a Garden View, and loved our view, but when looking up at our room from the ground were quite surprised at how blocked the view was from most of the other third floor rooms - many palm trees. They would have leaves as their view. I do not recall, sorry, which rooms would be obstructed, but you could have an obstructed view. If it is that important to you, could you save the money somewhere else and pay for the view you really want? Conversely, if you feel that if you cannot afford to pay for and guarantee the view, then downgrade and pay for "Garden View" and spend the additional savings elsewhere. You will have a fantastic view of the castle from the lounge and from the beach. I loved the sunsets and glorious clouds from my garden view 3rd floor room. Wish I could be more positive.

I just knew there had to be someone posting on this thread. I haven't received an e-mail notification of posts for well over 24 hours now. The DIS must be having issues again--it happens to me periodically and then WHAM! A zillion notifications all at once.

Anyone else having issues?

BTW, have fun those leaving this weekend! I have 41 more days until F&W, but not at the Polynesian. :guilty:

Just made final payment:cool1:Now I just have to deal with the waiting....
