ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

I'm also glad to hear some good things about Captain Cook's
Ever since I read a TR describing the Aloha Pork Sandwich at CC, I knew I had to try to eat a meal there.

What do you guys think about Capt. Cook's? This will be our first stay at the Poly and we've never eaten here. Is it as bad a some people say? I'm sure we'll end up eating here at least once or twice during our stay and I wanted to get some opinions about the place :)

TIA :flower3:

Try the grilled cheese, Loved it! Its easy and usually fast, Flatbread good too!:goodvibes

Morning my Poly Peeps! This time a few Sats from now I will be checking into the Hawaii LH! Bought a few more supplies yesterday for our trip, all I need left to get is a couple bottles of champagne, bottle of rum (YO HO) and DH and I need to get our haircuts and mani, pedis and we are ready! LOL I make DH get the mani pedi, he works in steel toe boots running a concrete plant! He would kill me if he knew I was posting this. Went last night and he picked out a new phone case and wallet for the trip, his gets so dirty from work, would you believe I talked him into get a COACH wallet? Course its the plain kind and he looked so uncomfortable, said he didnt mind spending that kind of money on a purse for me but wasnt use to spending more than $10 on a wallet but the fact that we were getting it 70% off convinced him! Already started packing and will actually pack clothes next weekend.. Im soooo ready!

Thanks for all the replies about CC's! :thumbsup2 I can't wait to try the tonga toast and I know we will love the Dole whips :lovestruc

I'm not sure exactly, :confused3 it just seemed like whenever I read about the place (especially from reviews at TripAdvisor, which I know isn't the best place to read reviews since there seems to be a lot of negativity LOL) people seemed to not like CC's very much. I think they mentioned it was crowded and the food was not good. Some people said they thought it was dirty and the ordering system was confusing.

I figured I'd get a good response from the peeps here on the Poly thread, and I did :cutie:

I am not sure why people think that a hotel with over 800 rooms would NOT have a busy eating area? They forget (or don't know) that there are almost twice as many tables at CC than at the counter service place at the GF...

If you show up at 8am during the peak season, it is going to be busy... but if you are calm and patient you will have your food in hand with in 10 minutes... and that is pretty darn good!

I know how you feel! I just come on these boards every day for a fix - cause I have nothing left to plan!! We leave next Saturday, so I pulled out the suitcases this morning, and am doing laundry. Unfortunately, we'll be wearing what I need to pack this week, so it's kind of useless...I have all my lists made, so it should only take me an hour or so to pack.

DH and oldest DSs are off on a canoe trip this weekend, so at least they're not obsessing :)

Leaving in a few more days for first Poly stay! Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOOOT! Its just about time! :yay:

You can come pack for me!!! Suitcases are still in the attic and we leave in 3 days! :scared1: It's on the agenda though for this weekend.... obviously :lmao:

And jdd, I know how you feel. ;) We leave in 18 days, but it was actually 32 days out that I figured and laid out every outfit for all 5 of us for our 7 day trip (plus an extra outfit or 2 in case of spills and oops moments - what are the chances :rolleyes1). Then I took a couple pictures (the clothes as a group and the individual days) so I'd know what to pack in the few days before we leave. :laundy: Oh, the healthy (I hold out that it's not obsessive, but that could just be me justifying my illness  ) things we do to plan for the best Disney trip possible. 'Course now y'all probably think I'm some kind of freak. :rotfl2:

I hope the next 7 days skip along for you. :woohoo:

That's a really good idea!

We've been back just about 24 hours, and had a wonderful 6 nights, 7 days at the Poly. I hope to post a trip report when a little more rested! ...

I just wanted to echo everyone's thanks for you taking the time to post such a detailed review. I really appreciate the time everyone puts into sharing their experiences. These boards have been very helpful to me in making the choices for my first trip ... OK, well, "helpful," might not be the correct word; neurotic is probably more accurate, but that's my fault, not all the posters. :)

Reading your report makes me want to change back to the Polynesian club level. I just keep telling myself, "we're saving $1,000, we're saving $1,000." But I'm definitely still checking every day to see if something opens up for my dates on the monorail using the 40% off offer (long shot I know).

The Poly IS on the monorail.....

50 more days! Ugh!!! It seems like the time is going by sooo slowly :sad1:

I hope everyone leaving soon has a terrific trip! :wizard: Please post pics when you get back :worship:

Sorry for any confusion. We originally had a Polynesian club level reservation and switched to Yacht Club when the 40% discount came out for December because it saved us a bundle and the Polynesian (or any other monorail resort) wasn't available in that offer for the dates we needed.

My DH thinks I'm a little nutty for packing way in advance but I pack for the kiddos too and the 'family' items. So he's off for 3 weeks at the family farm and ranch (harvest time - summer wheat). I'm occupying me and the kiddos with lots of stuff to do INCLUDING packing!!! We don't put things in a suitcase yet but we make sure we have our food (dry goods), toiletries, pool items, glow stuff, park stuff (ponchos!), and we try on our outfits and make a list of exactly what we should bring. Then I go through the items to make sure we have enough (but not too much) clothes so we are comfortable day and night. I'd do this if he were here but at least he won't roll his eyes at me  since we don't leave for another 28 days.

So in my opinion, it is not too early to start :thumbsup2

DH and I have 12 days until we will be sitting at the Poly. I can hardly wait. We don't get much alone time so I am really looking forwardto our trip.

Happy packing to everyone who's leaving soon! I always find the planning & preparing s big part of the excitement!
